This review is from: Delta 22-565 12-1/2-Inch Planer with Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
The planer sets up fast and accurate, with most of my time fiddling with the depth indicator. It certainly spews out a lot of sawdust, so make sure you get/use a dust collector too.I've had mine for 4 months or so, and have run many board feet through - pine, recycled redwood (one-by's and six-by's), rough milled Cherry (4/4 x 6w and 8/4 x 7.5w), birch, oak, poplar - both hard and soft woods. The planer has done an outstanding job. The only thing I've had to re-align is the thickness indicator. The infeed and outfeed tables remain level. The head lock mechanism keeps the cutterhead locked and level during planing (even on real thick and long boards that tended to wander a bit during planing). Find out how to feed stock in the correct direction and you'll always get smooth planed surfaces (I take no more than 1/16" bites at a time). Once you learn how to support the ingoing and outcoming boards, snipe is barely apparent if at all. I'm just through with my first set of blades. Changing them looks easy and fast enough to not be too much of a chore. This is a great addition to my garage workshop.

Couldn't live without one.,

I just purchased this planer two weeks ago. I cannot imagine doing any kind of woodworking without one. I have been making maple butcher blocks out of S2S 4/4 maple stock. Some of my glue joints have been spotty at best and the average board height has been off considerably. With the Delta, I can get perfect joints and uniform height on all my rails. Now I am moving into full sized maple countertops. The 22-565 chews 6/4 maple and spits out a perfectly smooth 1 3/8" X 2" X 60" rail with no problems. Snipe is no problem at all and the depth guide was right on. Assembly was basic and straight forward. Dad and I unpacked that planer and were using it within an hour.As a side note, as stated before, buy adequate hearing protection. When planing wide maple or other hard wood, it is deafening.

I've had this planer for about 4 months and it has paid for itself with the money I have saved on buying rough cut lumber. It setup easily out of the box. The only thing I had to adjust was the height indicator. It was off about an 1/8" but this was easily corrected and has stayed true since then. The rough cut hardwood lumber I run through comes out looking as good as the finished lumber I could buy from my local home improvement store. I actually have started running the top choice #2 pine I get through my planer because it requires a lot less sanding after. I have very little problems with snipe and no problems with anything else. This was a great buy and probably one of the very best machines in my shop.
