4.0 out of 5 stars Nice machine, but don't overload it!
It's a cute little bandsaw, but it's motor doesn't have a lot of oomph! And the drive pulley is not well affixed to the motor shaft. Just because a thick chunk of seasoned oak fits under the blade guide doesn't mean that it will cut well...and if you jam the blade, you may wind up freewheeling the drive pulley, which is not well affixed to the motor shaft (I thought...

I just want to focus on ... blade twist while ripping. I bought this saw knowing it wouldn't be the best but hoping it would be adequate. The natural blade twist (always to the LEFT! despite snugging up the guides as well as possible) causes you to twist your piece to compensate. This causes burn on the wood and has a tendency to rip the blade out of the guides or bind...

4.0 out of 5 stars Band Saw, August 27, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Delta 28-150 9-Inch Bench Band Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great product for the beginning woodworker. It is a very quiet machine and I am very pleased with it. However, while ripping boards with the rip fence, the blade always tends to wander to the left side of the blade guide and it gets very annoying. I can never make a 90 degree cut properly with the rip fence. This tool is recommended for use mostly with projects that have slightly curved edges. The built in lamp is an excellent add-on. Overall, it is a nice little band saw. A great idea for a kid's first machine.

I have never used a band saw until I bought this one. In fact it was a toss up between it and a scroll saw since I couldn't afford both. I do a limited amount of scroll type work and so far the saw works fine. I want to try the 1/8 inch blade but haven't had a chance yet. The band saw is very well made, quiet, almost no vibration. The instructions for truing up the table and adjusting the blade, were a simple step by step approach. While I don't claim to push it to the limit, I have been very satisfied a do not anticipate any problems. I like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Great Saw, November 30, 2001

This review is from: Delta 28-150 9-Inch Bench Band Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I read reviews on this saw before I bought it, and read that the blades comes off easy, but it has the height and width of cut that was good for me and the price. When I first started to use it, the blade came off about every five minutes. It wasn't difficult to understand the problem. The tilt ajustment is to sloppy. I drilled and tapped a 1/4 28 hole above the fulcrum of the tilt ajustment point and installed a set screw. After setting the blade guides snug against the blade, and the tilt adjustment, I snugged the set screw up so there is no movement in the blade tilt. I cut hardwoods 3 inches thick and two to three feet long and this little gold mine cuts straight and the blade has never come off again. The complainers don't know how to take the time to ajust this saw. I spent about 30 minutes drilling and taping the set screw hole, and I've used the saw for over two months with NO PROBLEMS. Believe me, this is a truly good buy. Iam a machinist with 33 years experience and know a good machine when I see one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth every penny spent!, January 18, 2002

Great machine to buy when you have a small, new workshop. It eats through everything like a hot knife in butter. Don't push the materials through to fast or the blade will not cut straight. Replace the factory blade with a 3/8" blade and you will be set for life. Also, don't bother buying a $20 rip fence. I made one using a very straight 1x4 and a 1x1 nailed onto the side of it. It makes accurate rips. Don't bother buying a 14" bandsaw unless you plan to do a lot of ripping and resawing wood. Powerful enough for the occasional use. I can't say enough good things about it. It's well worth every penny spent!

This is a great saw for the weekend woodworker. It comes equipped with basic accessories and a very handy light. The motor is powerful and quiet. Definitely lives up to Delta's high quality standards.

4.0 out of 5 stars problem solved, July 30, 2002

I was not pleased with the saw at first. It cut to the left (BAD)
and would not even think of resawing. I thought the setup was not right, because the top support bearing would not adjust to the 1/8 inch overlap of the blade that the instructions talked about. I contacted delta and told him of the sawing "crooked" and he immediately said "it's your blade". I explained that it came with a new blade and I also purchased an additional blade. Both cut to the left. I then explained about the support bearing. He sent me a new upper guide, said mabey it was machined wrong. He also sent me 2 DELTA blades. I put the peice on and it helped the bearing position problem, but it still sawed to the left. In flustration I tried the new DELTA blade and that fixed it. Tried the second blade he sent, it sawed perfect also. (even resawing). I'm convinced the blade was the difference. It even sounds different. Hope this helps someone.

I read Mr. Jones review on this saw about not having a factory rip fence. under delta accessories delta part number 28-181 is the correct rip fence at only 17.50. I use this saw every day in my custom kitchen and trim business. i am very pleased with the saw.

I have own this saw for a few years for for light duty cutting it works great. For anything that requires more power it is not the saw for you. It does not come with a fence and the blade will come off the drive wheels if you are not careful. For the price it is a good saw, the built in light comes in very handy and it runs very quite. If you are looking for a light duty saw for a reasonable price this one may be for you. If you are looking for something that has more guts you may want to keep looking.

I just want to focus on ... blade twist while ripping. I bought this saw knowing it wouldn't be the best but hoping it would be adequate. The natural blade twist (always to the LEFT! despite snugging up the guides as well as possible) causes you to twist your piece to compensate. This causes burn on the wood and has a tendency to rip the blade out of the guides or bind it. As an added bonus, the guides eventually wear down, worsening the problem! I took mine back, bit the bullet, and bought a much more useful [$] model. Buyer beware here!...
