Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This 10-inch compound miter saw from Delta is a sturdy, well-balanced, smooth-cutting saw perfect for use on the job site or in a small shop. Its safety-conscious design includes an electric brake, a see-through retracting blade guard, and a dust and chip collection system. The blade tilts 45 degrees to the left, and the table pivots a full 45 degrees in both directions. This saw has a maximum bite of 1-3/4 by 4 inches when set to a full 45-by-45-degree compound cut (just enough for two-by-fours). It's also capable of through cuts on four-by-fours and two-by-sixes at straight 90-degree crosscuts. Delta offers another 10-inch compound miter saw--the 36-220--at a slightly lower price, but that model has a smaller bite and lacks the comfortable horizontal handle of this one.

Other compound miter saws (including a 12-inch model and a sliding saw from Delta) offer a bigger bite, but considering the exceptionally good price on this model, it's hard to find another saw that offers as much value. The 36-225 is a little heavier and more challenging to move around a job site than some competing portable saws, but its weight is due to Delta's solid construction, and the tool has a level of stability and accuracy we think is worth the extra heft. Delta priced this saw to attract home users, but they built it to withstand the rigors of professional use. This is an excellent saw for home shops, or for job site use, and its price certainly can't be beat. --Brian Trinen

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes the cut, August 9, 2000
This review is from: Delta 36-225 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
Overall, a very good product. For those of us restricted to using a circular (e.g., skil) saw, using the CMS is a giant leap forward. Compared to the other models I looked at, I like the built in extensions, the horizontal position of the handle, and the trigger release for changing miter positions. I rarely use the work clamp, but it is a nice feature to have when you need it. Dust collection is acceptable.

I could have used the extra capacity of the 12" model a few times now, but it wasn't in the budget, nor in my opinion, worth the extra cost. Instead, I just flip the work piece over and make a second cut. Not exactly a joiner quality edge, but adequate for my purposes. My guess is that if you need a precise miter cut on a board the 10" model can't handle, you probably ought to be using a table saw anyway. Don't get me wrong, this saw is plenty precise, but double cuts aren't.

A Best Buy! This saw is well worth the extra dollars vs the 36/220 or the 36/075 models. It's 15 pounds lighter than the 220 and can be readily moved from site to site. Compared to the 075 model it has a more powerful 15 amp motor and come with the support extensions and work clamp!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Buy, June 30, 2000

This review is from: Delta 36-225 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I looked and compared all the compound miter saws. I could have bought any 12" saw any of the big name makers but after comparing cutting abilities, prices of the saw and the blades I bought the Delta 36-225. I also built the portable saw stand in the back of the owners manual and everybody that has seen it also built one. A Tool Buddy of mine liked my saw so well his wife had me pick up the same saw for him last Christmas. Power, Portability and Price.
