From the Manufacturer

Delta’s 36-L552 left tilt cabinet saw is ideal for woodworking, cabinet making, and boat building. It features up-front dual-crank controls with locking cams, speedometer style scales and a 52 inch Biesemeyer fence. The 5HP 220V motor cuts hardwoods and engineered products like MDF and melamine. The riving knife enables tool-less adjustment for through- and non-through cuts including grooves for shelves and picture frames as well as dadoes, rabbets, and cheek cuts for furniture. The single-cast trunion provides increased vibration control. Largest throat plate in category eases blade changes. Storage under the table board is convenient and expandable. Bi-level dust extraction improves dust collection. The 36-L500 is one of several pieces that make the 36-L552.

I just received my new Unisaw last week also and I wasn't going to post anything just yet but in light of the first review - I have to say something. This is a fine piece of equipment and I have no complaints thus far. The main aspect of the first review I will address is that, according to articles I have read from several sources, this saw is pretty much American made - including the Biesemeyer Fence - reference an article in Popular Woodworking Magazine from January 2009 as an example, where they actually toured the Jackson Tennessee plant where the saw and fence components are MANUFACTURED - not just put together. The motor is by Marathon which is made/assembled in the USA as well. The blade they ship with it is also American made - but my Forest blade is still a bit better (also American made). So please know that while MOST of the other saws are manufactured elsewhere - the Unisaw is made right here and is worth every penny, at least so far. According to what Popular Woodworking said, there is no official standard for what determines the correctness of this label but Delta ensures at least 80% of its parts are American made. Others use 50% - I like 80% better. Like lots of people, I know a lot of stuff that comes from China (and other countries) is cheap crap. That is not the case with the Unisaw.

All the packing was correct in mine (including the dust collector attachment) and while it did not go together exactly like the video, it was close. The manuals should all be kept together instead of in different boxes but oh, well. It took me about 8 hours to set up and adjust - and this is the first time I have done such a thing with a cabinet saw. I don't have precise measuring capability on table flatness but mine seems really close.

I bought this saw a year ago in November of 2011. I was upgrading from a 1.5HP cabinet saw as we needed something more powerful to cut thicker acrylic. It's been OK and I hadn't had any problems up until about a month ago. Myself and my employees started noticing a lot more vibration and noise coming from the saw. It was still cutting without issue so we didn't think much of it. Yesterday my guys went to cut something and the saw started vibrating so heavily it was shaking things off the runoff table. It ran for about 5 seconds and completely seized.

Immediately we contacted our local Delta/Porter Cable service center and they said we would have to bring this 500 lb monster in to them to be serviced under it's "5 year warranty" which is absolutely psychotic. Being a custom fabrication company with 9 people there is absolutely no way that would be an acceptable option so I had a mechanically inclined employee start breaking it down to find out what was wrong. Upon further inspection we found the arbor assembly key hole had literally sheared/stripped the key clean off which was letting the arbor pulley move back in fourth with the belts on which eventually ran itself into the blade locker seizing the motor.

After locating the problem and finding the parts we would need we called the service center back and they didn't have any of the parts we would need and said they would take 3 WEEKS to come. They told us to call around to the other service centers to see they had the parts we needed. Why are we doing all this leg work for a product under warranty? After calling 3 places around the US we FINALLY locate an arbor assembly.

Verified Purchase
I live in the suburbs , the saw arrived as stated and the truck had a lift gate to unload it as well as a small hydraulic cart to move it where I wanted it. Great Its very heavy about 600 lbs with the packaging including 2 palletts. It was wrapped very well , some card board was scuffed , I opened it and found no damaged. The delivering carrier had to remove the long fence (it was packaged vertically with the rest of the saw) they had to remove it to get it in the truck. All is well.

This is a five (5) horsepower saw.
It required a 40 amp circuit breaker, so before you buy it you MUST have a 40 amp circuit with 10 gauge wiring. It has a plug on the saw. The circuit is 40 amp 220 volt. I thought I had the correct set up but NO. I had 220 volt with a "20 amp" circuit so I had to hire a electrician to wire it up. Luckily it was about 30 feet (in my shop with easy access to install the wiring.

The saw is very smooth , powerful and fairly quiet.

I bought the mobile base with it, very sturdy. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CORRECT MOBILE BASE. I would not buy the base again because the saw is so heavy , I don't think I'll move it.

You MUST level the saw to the base then level the saw and base to the world.

Take your time in installing the wings. There is a special way to install them , call Delta tech support, to get them level.

The fence and table and all parts were very time consuming. I had to remove some of parts and reinstall them before I was satisfied that it was on the "Co-plane)

It required a lot of blocking etc to get the saw up tilting towards the back then put blocks under it to get the mobile base under it. It can be done with a little enginering with blocks and levers.
