4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful machine, mostly
This scroll saw is a pleasure to use. No vibration, quick blade changes for inside cuts, many great features. The stand is sturdy (could use wheels!) and the table top is rock solid.

It lacks a light or any part to which a light could be readily attached. The dust collection nozzle works very well, when hooked up to my collector or shop vac.

1.0 out of 5 stars Delta P-20, model 40-680 scroll saw
I have been using scroll saws to cut copper and steel on a full time basis for the last twelve years. I have written and co-authored a book titled "Scroll Sawing in Metal". (Schiffer Publishing)

I have used Delta Scroll Saws for the last eight years. (Also used Dremel and Dewalt as back up saws.)

My scroll saw arrived missing two bolts to hold a box which protects the wiring. In all, I made seven or eight calls to Delta. They promptly and repeatedly sent me the wrong bolts. Turns out they have no way to keep records of service calls, so you start at the beginning each time. These particular parts are mislabeled at the warehouse, and there is no way to find the right ones.

I finally gave up and taped the circuit box in place. It's a small item, but shows that the Delta customer service operation is in need of a major overhaul. Not the people, necessarily; every one was pleasant and as helpful as possible. But they are hampered by a stone-aged information handling system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rock solid, one complaint, August 14, 2004

This saw is rock solid, absolutely no vibrations and plenty of power. The blade change is quick an easy and the stand is very sturdy. I own a cabinet shop and I use the saw for cuting intricate corbels. The saw works great. My only complaint is the dust blower. It doesn't blow hard enough to remove the dust away from the pattern lines. I worked with the bellows to get more air flow but was only slightly successful. To much of the air leaks by at the bellows and not enough goes to the tube.

Other than the blower problem, I would put this saw up against any of the top brands. If you don't need the 30" throat there is no reason to pay the extra for other FAR more expensive saws.

The Delta P-20 Model 40-680 is the worst Delta Scroll Saws that I have ever used. I have had two of them for over two years and they will not hold up under heavy use. Some of the critical parts are made out of soft aluminum that wear out in less that three days of continual use. The vibration in these machines has been so bad that screws and other parts are continually working loose and/or breaking. Also, Delta replacement parts have become so expensive that I would be better off using the Delta saws for boat anchors and buying a less expensive brand of saw.

The Quick set II Blade for the Top arm on the P-20 is not nearly as good as the type I that came with My old Delta Q-3 scroll saw.

I wish that some manufacturer could come up with a scroll saw that is actually of a commercial grade that would stand up to heavy use. (And still be fairly affordable)
