The saw came rather quickly via Federal Express (it took two men to unload it). It took us about an hour to put it together, but everything was very easy to understand and intuitive. The saw works exactly as advertised and it is easy to see why this particular saw is rated so highly. The cut is smooth and straight.

Box arrived in good condition and all parts were in good condition. Setup was easy (even though there were no step-by-steps for setting up the base). From the problems that I have read about from previous comments, here are my results:
-The table is dead-flat.
-The hole for the saw in the table is perfectly aligned to the tensioners out of the box.
-The Saw mounts adequately to the base without having to re-drill.
-The articulated lamp does not support its own weight, but laying this over the arm so that it shines on the right side of the work is not a problem.
-The quick-release works beautifully as does the tension knob (numbers are only useful if you insert the blade at the same tension/angle every time, so go by sound)
-Air hose blows adequately to remove dust from the surface. Keep in mind, this is not an air compressor, so keep it close to the blade and you'll be fine.

Here are some QC problems I noticed:
-One of the rounded corners of the rear base bracket was pretty severely rounded but once you insert and tighten the rear elevation bracket, the steel straightens out. overall, not a problem.
-Silver paint from the sides of the table somehow made its way to the top. The paint thickness is negligible and only cosmetic, so no problem. i'll scrape it off later.
-The pressed steel of the base is kind of wavy. Again, this is only aesthetic.

As far as the operation of the saw? An absolute joy to use. Quiet operation, plumb out of the box, very nice speed and tension adjustment. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, beginner or advanced. If you have to save up for a month to buy a cheap scroll saw, wait four more months and buy this one, your results show.

Got this saw a couple months ago. Set it up and was sawing in a hour or so. Works better than my DeWalt 20" did although they are supposed to be the same. Light is handy and the blower works pretty well.
Seems to vibrate less than the Dewalt

I struggled with purchasing the Delta or the DeWalt. They are essentially the same saw but I got a better buy on the Delta and it included the stand and light. I love the saw and it is light years ahead of the 20" Craftsman Professional I had before. Vibration is minimal. I like the stand that lets you elevate the back leg giving a better look at your cuts. It also has a feature that the DeWalt doesn't have. When changing blades the arm can be elevated on both saws allowing more room to put the blade thru the hole in your wood for your next cut. The Delta has a lock to hold the arm in the up position, DeWalt does not have this feature. If you want the arm raised you have to use a block of wood to hold the arm up (primative). There is an aftermarket item you can buy to overcome this but it costs another $20. The only negative comment I would make is that the surface finish on the table is not polished. It is flat but it has grooves from the finishing process. I've seen new Dewalts and they look the same. I will polish this myself and it can probably be done with an hour's work. The other difference between the DeWalt and the Delta is the warranty. Delta has a five year warranty, DeWalt is three years I think. I've heard that the DeWalt light is useless. The light on the Delta is quite good but I don't use it. I have a gooseneck light with a magnifier that I prefer for the fine cuts I'm usually making. Overall I am very pleased with the Delta, definately a 5 star purchase.

I am very happy with this scroll saw. As others have stated, the vibration is minimal and the controls are in front and easy to reach and control. However, the material holddown leaves a lot to be desired. It does not hold thin pieces, shifts with the blade and must be returned to a non-cutting area periodically. If not for this problem, I would have rated the saw at a five.
