When I bought my Platinum Ed. Delta Unisaw, I quickly realized that good support was an absolute necessity in ripping long stock and panel cutting. After much research on Outfeed Tables the unit that realy shined over the others was the 50-302 Delta. I decided against making my own table because by the time you add up a bill of material's w/hardware, it was just about comparable to purchasing one. Assembly and direction's were straight forward easy to follow respectively. It took me about 3 hrs. to assemble. The instructions suggest 2 people are needed for assembly but I honestly didn't have any problem's by myself! Here are the Pros and Cons as I see them: Pros: Fold down of the table via piano hinges saves space for small shops Easy to assemble Color blends in well w/Platinum Unisaws Sturdy and supports heavy stock Will fit a wide variety of Saw's Tables are completely sheathed for less warpage Pre-drilled screw holes were matched perfectly J-hook leg take-down takes only seconds to do. Cons: Delta should add an extra leg to bring support to 100 % instead of 95 % The hardware (nuts & bolts)are a bit of a puzzle to properly orient The tables should be shipped in a more substantial box; mine had a crushed-in corner during shipping.Delta should pack and ship like Biesemeyer does. Overall I think this is a quality, versatile and large support table for those of us lacking space in their shops. I would recommend this outfeed to anyone who will be needing solid support of stock but do not need a "permanent" outfeed. Try the Delta 50-302 with your Unisaw and you will never regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars When you have a great Table Saw..., August 4, 2000
By

This review is from: DELTA 50-302 Outfeed Table (Tools & Home Improvement)
I just received my new Delta Uni-Saw and Outfeed Table...WOW! I assembled my new Saw and then it was on to my "extra toy", the Outfeed Table. I figured I'd give my family a break from hearing Dad yell, "I need some help out here" every time I had a big cut to make. Also, it just wasn't safe pushing 4 x 8 Oak Plywood through the saw alone or with one of your kids on the other end of that blade!!! Anyway, assembling the table was a breeze once I got over not knowing whether it would fit on a Beisemeyer Fence System. I read the instructions and called a ToolCrib Technician just to make sure since there was nothing said about the fence (other fences were noted). It took about 3 hours, mainly because I enjoyed it so much. Everything fit and worked just like the book said it would. It is a very nice addition to my new Uni-Saw.

The only negative is the packaging. Such a heavy (and nice) table should be better protected and in a bigger box. I had a small amount of damage on one of the corners from shipping. Also, the manual tells you to cut 2 3/8" off the primary table. DON'T DO IT YET! I waited until I was ready to secure that table and measured the distance necessary to clear the Rear Table Support Rail from the Saw. I only cut 5/8" because I didn't want the "Grand Canyon" between the Saw and the Outfeed Table. It looks great and functions just like it ought too. It's a great deal for the price. Besides, the Outfeed Table is a MUST when you have a great Table Saw.

I received mine and the small stationary wooden top of the table was broken into three parts even though the external packaging showed no real damage. This part breaks where it has grooves routed into it across its width, it is so badly supported I would expect it to get broken in shipment more often than not. The movable part of the table top also had some cosmetic damage. Amazon has been helpful but a replacement top arrived damaged as well. I just ended up making my own parts to fix it. The table is actually pretty good and I needed a fold down table given lack of space in my garage.

My Motivation for Purchasing the Out Feed Table

I purchased the Delta 50-302 out feed table to extend the bed of my Delta 36-L51X Unisaw. Prior to this I had been using roller stands as out feed support when ripping long stock. The problem with roller stands is that it is difficult to get them the exact height of the saw table, and even if you do, this won't work when ripping long stock because the stock tends to droop below the table height before it makes contact with the roller. So now you're in a predicament. Do you continue to force the stock through the saw and hope it rides up and over the roller? Do you stop the saw and move the roller forward to support the work, only to discover that the shortened support distance from the saw table causes the stock to tip up and over like a teeter-totter when the cut is complete? Do you use several rollers in series? The answer is none of the above, you forget the rollers and purchase an out feed table.

The potential of a good saw is either limited or fully realized depending upon the quality its side and out feed support. Therefore in addition to the out feed table, I strongly recommend purchasing the side extension table too! With a good out feed support and side extension support, your expensive saw can do all the big jobs it is capable of.

Packing and Shipping

The packing of the out feed table was of superior quality. It came in a very heavy gauge cardboard carton. The contents were packed well and reached my door step in perfect condition. Many reviewers noted that their table was damaged in shipping due to less than quality packaging. Not so in my case. Perhaps Delta has responded to all the negative customer feedback.

Assembly

Overall the design of the support structure for this out feed table appears to have been taken straight from the Rube Goldberg text book on over complicated design and difficult ways to achieve simple results. It appears as though the assignment to design this out feed table was handed to some young mechanical engineer fresh out of college as his very first task at his new company. Furthermore it appears that the senior engineers and management at Delta neglected to conduct any design reviews on his work. Assembly of this table is exasperating at best.

The table has two angle braces that bolt at the lower end to the bottom of the saw cabinet, and bolt at the top end to two horizontal supports that extend from the top of the saw cabinet. For some reason, the two bolts that are used to attach the bottom of the braces are radically different from one another even though both bolts perform the same function. There is no mention of the reason for this in the assembly instructions. These bolts are inserted from the outside the saw cabinet and the nuts are connected from inside the saw cabinet. In order to connect the nuts to the bolts you have to remove the injection molded plastic motor cover. It is almost impossible to connect the nut to the bolt for the angled support brace that is the furthest away from the saw motor cover. The distance you have to reach into the saw base to attach this nut is much longer than my arm. I couldn't hold the support brace with one hand and at the same time wrap my arm around the cabinet and stick my arm in the motor cover hole to attach the nut. This is definitely a two person job, and one person has to have very long arms.

Some of the previous reviewers warned about not following the assembly instruction that tells you to cut ? inch off the end of the stationary table. I followed their advice, did not make any cuts, and the table fit perfectly.

When the assembly of the out feed table is complete, it's clear that you will never want to disassemble it even if the saw needs to packed up for moving across the Atlantic. The pain of re-assembly would be just too strong of a deterrent.

Using the Out Feed Table

With that said, after the table assembly is complete the out feed table does the job for which it was intended. I am extremely happy with it. It significantly enhances the operational capabilities my saw and it definitely increases the safety of using my saw. The inherent difficulty of ripping long stock or 4x8 sheets of plywood essentially vanishes when the saw has proper out feed and side extension support.

The table has other uses too. I find that when I'm not using the saw, the table comes in handy as additional work bench space. I even use it as out feed support for my planer.

After having used the table for a few months, I wonder how I got along without it before. Would I purchase this table again if necessary? The answer is yes I absolutely would.

3.0 out of 5 stars Be Careful! The instructions will mislead you!, July 25, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DELTA 50-302 Outfeed Table (Tools & Home Improvement)
Nice product, but there are a few problems.

First of all, if you own a newer Unisaw, the instructions tell you to cut 3/4 inch from the table before beginning the assembly. DO NOT DO THIS! If you do, you will have a 1/2 inch gap between the back of the saw table and the front of your outfeed table. It is completely unnecessary to live with such a gap. At most, you will need to remove 1/4 inch, and less if you want a flush fit and are willing to cut a rabbit on the underside of the board. I was stupid enough to trust Delta's idiotic instructions without measuring first, and now I have to replace this part. (It's probably easier to get some 1/2 inch laminate locally and make your own rather than order one from Delta's parts service--I've been waiting for some drill press parts for 8 months now!)

Second, all of the cut ends of the particle board are exposed and not treated. I would definitely coat them with something, like polyurethane or shallac, to prevent swelling from moisture accumulation, especially if you live in a humid area.

Third, on newer Unisaws, the dust collection port gets in the way of the table leg when it is folded down. Nothing serious, but it's a little annoying at times.

Otherwise, it's a good design.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shipment problems not fixed completely, November 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: DELTA 50-302 Outfeed Table (Tools & Home Improvement)
My table arrived (Nov 2001) with some minor damage (crushed corners and delamination), but it was not severe enough to send it back. I fixed it with a hammer, some glue, and a clamp. Yes, there was a note in the box saying that Delta had made an attempt at improved packaging. The damage should not discourage anyone (but the most particular) from ordering this product. By the way, it fit my platinum edition w/Biesemeyer fence perfectly.

Well...After 5 FAILED attempts to get an UNDAMAGED outfeed table delivered, i'm going for number 6. I should give up, up this item is handy and i cut a lot of plywood. (i should just give up and build one myself.)

It seems that no one can get the largest table part delivered in one piece. All 5 have arrived damaged in one way or another. The last attempt, direct from Delta, was the worst. The part was shattered in several places, almost beyond recognition.

Needless to say, I'm VERY disappointed.

I ordered this table to go with a Unisaw left tilt, Besemeyer fence, and Excalibur sliding table. All parts arrived in good shape, and the manual is the usual Delta fare, which is to say a very good manual.

It went together OK, except for a few glitches, mostly due to my particular setup:
1) I had to remove 7 inches from the fixed and folding tables to accomodate my sliding table. It was easy enough to cut, but I sort of hated the waste.
2) The initial attachment to the table saw requires patience and a flexible body, both of which have escaped me. You have to reach inside the saw body to hold a metal plate that you then screw into place from the outside. I recommend that you have a helper on hand for this step.
3) As mentioned in other reviews, the folding portion of the table interferes with a dust collection hose. Since I don't plan to fold down the table, this wasn't a problem for me.

Unless you need the folding feature, you may be better off with building a table to the exact dimensions you need. But if space is a problem, this table will do the job well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great table!, February 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DELTA 50-302 Outfeed Table (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this knowing it was not designed for my Delta TS300, but I also knew that it was modifiable. I have posted pictures of how I set mine up.

I basically threw away the instructions after reading through it once to get the basic idea of how the parts fit together. I then assembled the stationary subassembly part of the table and test fitted it to my saw. I then marked the 4 holes to be drilled and where I would need to add a horizontal brace along the lower part of the table saw stand. This brace I made out of a 2x4.

I then disassembled the parts and started assembling it directly to the table. The pieces have a lot of adjustment built in by using slotted holes, so as long as you get the 4 holes drilled in the right place on the table saw, you can get it aligned. Precise alignment (as suggested in the original instructions) was not needed. You do have to be careful though to align at least one slot for your miter/cross-cut slide. I don't need both channels, but if I did I could cut out a section of the stationary table top with my router.

Once I got the metal pieces bolted in place, I again test-fitted the stationary table top piece to make the final mark for cutting off the edge so that I had clearance for the fence slide. After making this cut (allowing for about an 1/8th inch fence clearance), I assembled the stationary top in place, aligned it and checked for flatness and tightened the bolts.

Adding the big folding table to the hinge was then trivial and required no adjustments or cutting. You also don't need 2 people, because one end can rest on the floor while you insert the screws. My TS300 is on a wheeled stand, so the vertical brace is not long enough. The simplest solution was to just put a wood block under the vertical brace made of glued 2x4 pieces. Problem solved.

This is a really great table extension and I'm very happy with it. It converts my TS300 into a professional level saw. The extension also doesn't get in the way of using my Bench Dog router extension. This project took 3 hours, with 1 hour spent on thinking about assembly and test fitting the pieces with 2 hours spent on actual assembly. I took my time and didn't rush, and measured twice before drilling or cutting anything.

I hate to talk bad about an American company But this product is Junk, South of Boarder, Bargain basement 99cent store junk, Shame on you Delta. The packing for this product,,,,,Oops....What packing........I received mine with damaged corners but the shipping box didn't show any signs of damage,,,,,,Hum. and for Delta a company the make very high quality tools, I am very sad to see a MDF ( fiber board ) table.....Not a multi lam 15 ply type board it should have been made from. But the design it self is great, it folds away with ease and has channels for the miter gauge and blade guard. Delta just got cheap with a product that isn't cheap to buy ,,,,,,,,Just be aware it's function is great the hardware is great, the table...!
