I ordered the Delta alloy stem raiser because my steerer tube wasn't long enough to get my handlebars into the proper position. I'm somewhat tall but, proportionally speaking, my arms aren't very long, so getting a good fit has always been a challenge. Frames that work for my height and leg length invariably place the handlebars too low and too far forward. My saddle is raised quite a bit, but even with the handlebars at their max height, riding on the brake hoods or top section of the bar felt more like riding in the drops. And forget about *actually* riding in the drops - they were almost too low to reach if I wanted to keep my head looking forward. Plus, just riding on the brake hoods had me bent over far enough to impede my breathing, which brought on fatigue earlier than normal.
Now that I've installed the Delta stem raiser (along with a stem that has less forward extension), all is right with the world. I can go on long rides without fatigue, and I can ride in the drops when I want to. A great product that works exactly as advertised. I have only two nitpicks: First, the allen bolt that connects this product to the star nut in your steerer tube is deep inside the unit. You need a fairly long allen wrench to reach down inside the stem raiser and tighten this bolt. Other reviewers have commented on this. I have a pocket-knife-style set of allen wrenches, and mine just *barely* reached far enough to properly tighten the bolt. If the wrench had been one half of a millimeter shorter, I wouldn't have been able to finish installing the stem raiser. Secondly, the black finish is glossy, which some people might prefer, but it doesn't match the flat or matte finish on most black stems. But this is an extremely minor nitpick. Lastly, this is not a nitpick, but something to keep in mind: At the maximum handlebar height that this stem raiser allows, there's a chance that you won't have enough slack in your brake and shifter cables. However, this is not a flaw in the product's design. Rather, it's a natural consequence of raising your handlebars substantially above their original position. I didn't encounter this problem, but other users might.

I bought the 1 1/8" black Delta Stem Raiser for my commuter bike as soon as I discovered it's existence- I've been commuting to work on my bike for years, and I always wished that my handlebars were a little bit higher but only recently decided to do something about it.
Installation was simple, and I only had one problem- I didn't have an allen wrench in my toolkit long enough to reach down inside of the raiser tube to tighten the center bolt and had to run out and buy one (I was surprised that it wasn't bundled with one). My bike is way more comfortable now- it's amazing what a difference a few inches will make! Highly recommended.

Just what the Doctor ordered! I'm not a "hard mountain rider", but I LOVE the way a mountain bike handles and feels on the streets, paths, and light trails. My only complaint (and it was a major one), was the extreme lean angle required to ride. A lot of weight and force applied to my arms and hands, made riding something less than enjoyable, and quite fatiguing. My search ended when I found this Stem Raiser on Amazon.
Installation was a BREEZE, and it looks GREAT! The ONLY tool required to complete the transformation, is an Allen Wrench. Total installation time = LESS than 10 minutes! At first, I thought I might need something with a little more height, but much to my surprise, this was PERFECT! The additional height was enough to make riding a pleasure, and was well within the slack range of all existing brake and gear cabling. A MUST for fellow sufferers. I posted some pics in the pics section of the review.

This is a simple product that does a perfect job for what it was designed. The installation is simple enough and effective. After the attachment to my bike's stem, the ride feels just as secure as before. The bolts are a bit oversized (6mm) and that adds to the feeling of security. Together with a trekking (butterfly) handlebar, my rides are now a lot more confortable for my back and hands allowing me to enjoy riding even more.

Bought it for my GMC Topkick bicycle. I didn't realize how uncomfortable a mountain bike was for long-distance riding. This riser was simple to install and took my handlebars up 3". This made all the difference in the world in comfort taking weight off my hands and allowing me to ride more upright.

I needed to raise the stem on my GMC Topkick Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike so that I could attach the iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle Seat. It was simple to setup and worked beautifully. I had never owned a bike with a threadless stem before so I was a little confused, but after some googling and reading amazon reviews I decided on this product and I have no regrets.

I had an old hybrid bike that I had not used in years because it hurt my wrists to ride it. Adding two inches to the stem with this product made all the difference. I can ride the bike again comfortably because more of my weight is on the seat, less on the handlebars. The quality of this product is about as good as it could be; it's strong but light.
I've read that many road and hybrid bikes have a frame geometry designed for racing, even though they're sold to consumers for recreation or commuting. Especially for tall riders, the typical riding position, crouched over handlebars that are level with the seat, is hard on your wrists. So this product makes the bike fit the way it should have in the first place. Installation takes a little skill. When you remove the top bolt in your old stem, that will loosen the whole stem assembly (which contains bearings). Put on the extender and push down on the whole stem assembly while tightening the bolt inside. You'll need a long hex key, or a 3/16 flat head screwdriver will also fit the bolt. Then tighten the side bolts. If you can feel the stem/fork move when you lean on the front brakes, it isn't tight enough.

This really saves the hands and wrists and wrists if you are tall,

I bought this item for my 08 Cannondale F6 hardtail. It fit fine, it is extremely strong, and it totally transformed the riding position of the bike. It did not make it into a beach cruiser as some would speculate but instead made the riding position still a forward lean but not so extreme. Without this extension my hands and wrists were under extreme stress while riding off-road to the point where I had to stop every few minutes to rest from the pain. Now I can ride all day without a problem from my hands or wrists (legs are another story). I would highly recommend it for the other tall guys of the world who want to ride a mountain bike.

I bought this stem raiser to adjust the height of my handlebars and it did the trick. I am more comfortbanle riding my bike without hunching over. This product was easy to install with a couple alan wrenches. I installed mine on my Schwinn mtb with only one hang up. I had to purchase an additional WASHER to make the stem raiser fit properly. It works great, but I had almost an 1/8" gap under raiser after fastening it down as tight as it would go. The additional washer costs me $1 which is a bargain. I've riden bike several times and stem raiser has performed well.
