3.0 out of 5 stars Delta Simmons Pearl stroller: good but not amazing, March 18, 2009
Quick rundown:
lightest weight stroller I could find that has the option of facing baby toward you or away from you.
rear wheel covers popped off 7 times in first 15 minutes of use.
Instruction booklet for assembly is quite poor. Anyone who has assembled a stroller before or is adept at looking at things and seeing where they fit should be fine but if you rely on the user guide for actual help in assembling things, you are going to need a second person or a different stroller.
Very attractive and easy to use. When seat is facing the parent, stroller cannot be folded completely.
Sun shade needs improvement. It is on the narrow end of the spectrum and is not adequately adjustable.
The basket seems shallow.
There's no parent-friendly places for a water bottle or cell phone, keys, iPod, etc.
With some after-market accessories, I am going to make it a great stroller, once I get these damn wheel covers to stay put.
After about 3 months of light use, we have encountered a problem with the stroller. At random times, the wheels lock and cannot be unlocked. The first time it happened, it somehow resolved itself a week later with no action on our part. This time, I've been brought to tears because I cannot get the wheels unlocked. Am calling manufacturer today to ask for assistance.

The main reason I bought this stroller was because of the rear facing feature and the price. I received the stroller yesterday. I put it together the hardest part to put together for me was the back wheels everything else was very simple. Its easy to reverse the seat to rear facing and to recline. I like that you can adjust the height of the handle bar for all types of height I'm 5'4 and my husband is 6'1. This is my 3rd stroller with my 11 month old son and it is my favorite because I can look at my baby while I push him at an affordable price. This stroller in blue is adorable and so stylish I have no complaints whatsoever. I have 2 other children as well and have went through 9 strollers in my time so I have been through all types of strollers. Just know that you will need a sunshade extender for the stroller if you want full sun coverage for your child. P.S. the stroller also comes with a matching foot muff for chilly weather.

3.0 out of 5 stars Preliminary review, August 22, 2008
By
The stroller just arrived yesterday, so I have not actually used it yet, but since there are apparently no reviews on this product yet, I thought people might still want to know what I think of it so far.
First, I love the fact that the seat can face either direction (one of the main reasons I bought it). It also folds up neatly and easily when the seat is faced away from the handle (although it does require both hands). However, it does not seem to fold completely when the seat is faced towards the handle, which could potentially become quite inconvenient.
The stroller is very nice and light and handles well (although I do not know yet how it handles with a child in it). However, it does not appear to be the best quality (my husband is concerned that it does not appear to be 100safe, for instance, because the seat is held in to the frame at only two points), but perhaps time will tell about that. The instructions booklet does say that the stroller is suitable for newborns, but I must admit that it does not look like something I would feel comfortable putting a newborn into. (Maybe that's just me--baby is not born yet.)
Another thing that looks like it will be an issue: the sun awning will probably be adequate when the seat is in the upright position, but it seems that when the seat is in the reclined position, the awning will be completely ineffective.
A couple of other things, although I consider them trivial: the basket under the stroller opens in the front of the stroller, rather than near the person pushing--this makes no sense to me. Also there are no cup holders, but I'm not totally sure why people want cup holders on a stroller anyway.
I only paid $100 for this (not through Amazon), which is why I was willing to risk buying a product that had no customer reviews, but still, I doubt that I would buy it again having been able to investigate it in person.

UPDATE:
I still haven't used the stroller yet, but someone who knows what he's talking about has looked at it and assured me that this stroller is fine for a newborn. Also, I haven't tried this yet either, but I bought a canopy extender which should hopefully take care of the awning issue. I would actually probably increase my rating (even though I still haven't used the stroller), but the website won't let me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great rear facing stroller, May 17, 2010
By
hmmny (Rochester, NY) - See all my reviews
I have had this stroller for a year and too bad when I finally get around to reviewing it, it doesn't seem to be available any more. I researched strollers online and chose this one because of the rear facing feature. I had a very hard time finding reviews for it, so I wanted to share my thoughts after using it for a year.
I HATE infant car seats and chose to have my son in a convertible car seat from the start, but that didn't allow me the luxury of seeing him when he was in the stroller. That is why I was really excited about getting a rear facing stroller and the Pearl is the most affordable one I was able to find.
I love it for many reasons- of course being able to see my son is the most important one, it looks great and I get compliments on it all the time, it is lightweight and easy to push and steer, my son is happy and comfy in it, I love the height adjustable handle and I like having the bar on the front to attach a toy.
A few things about the stroller that are not great- it fills up most of my trunk when folded, I have a lot of trouble getting the brake to release, the sun canopy doesn't usually keep my son in the shade- none of those things are deal breakers and I really do love the stroller. One thing about it that is a constant annoyance to me is that I absolutely CANNOT unfold the stroller with one hand. It seems like it could be done, but trust me when I say I have tried it many, many times and always get frustrated because I have to go back in the house to put the baby down, go outside and set up the stroller and then go get the baby to put him in it. I have a detached garage which is where I keep the stroller and I tend to forget about all the diffuculty unfolding it when I go out with my son in my arms all ready to take a nice walk together and then realize that I should have set up the stroller first. Just recently my son is able to stand up on his own, so now he can just stand and wait until I have the stroller up. It really takes just one second, but I have never been able to do it without both hands. That is really annoying, however I do love many things about the stroller.
If you can get one of these strollers, I would recomend it, just be sure to plan ahead when you are going for a walk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fits tall parents, and rough terrain. Very nice stroller., March 14, 2010
This review is from: Delta Children's Products Simmons Pearl Stroller in Orange (Baby Product)
Too bad this stroller doesn't appear to be manufactured any longer. We love it.

First, regarding some of the complaints from other reviewers:
1. that hub caps fall off: I read this, and taped the caps on with a couple winds of black electrical tape. Never had a problem, invisible fix, wheels looks great.
2. Small basket. True, but a benefit is that at 6'5" tall, I'm not kicking the basket because of my long stride (see below).
3. Doesn't have infinite reclining positions, only one. This was irksome initially before DD couldn't hold her head up, but now that she's older its no longer an issue. She's either awake, or asleep, and two positions are all that are needed. This is probably a more durable design. Its a bigger problem if you use the Pearl to carry a car seat for an infant.
4. Brake doesn't unlock. Sorry, I almost never use the brake, so this hasn't been an issue for me.

Pros: Lots
1. Good for both very tall and short parents. I'm 6'5" and the handle on this stroller can extend far enough for me, and low enough for my wife who's 5'1". Initially I was kicking the rear axle, but by flipping the rear wheel assembly 180 degrees (so that the brake is in the front, not the rear), I have plenty of room for my longer stride, and I think the stroller handles and balances much better than before.
2. Eats up rough terrain thanks to the large rear wheels. On gravel, rough grass, even sand, you can tilt the stroller so that the front wheels are up in the air, even pull it behind you, rather than push it. Can even go up steps this way. Just make sure the seat is adjusted so baby doesn't hang out. Not a jogging stroller, but with front wheels locked, is stable at a brisk walk.
3. Lighter than anything else apart from the ultra light umbrella strollers. And unlike the umbrella strollers, the seat folds down completely so baby can nap during all day excursions. Relatively small footprint, as well, and with front wheels unlocked, as maneuverable as an umbrella stroller. Despite its light weight, and use of aluminum and plastic, this stroller seems well designed and strong to me. We've got over 100 miles on ours, over rough asphalt and some grass and gravel, without any mechanical problems.
4. 1/4 the price of a Bugaboo, and based on what I've seen of the bugaboo videos, much simpler to use, with many of the best features (chair can face both ways, light, can handle rough terrain)

Cons: A few, and a work-around.
1. The sun shade is skimpy, and there's no rain cover. I bought a bugaboo mesh sunshade, and jury rigged that on top of the existing sunshade for complete sun and insect protection. Ditto rain shield. There are cup holders and strap on diaper bags from other vendors that may work as well, but I haven't bothered. They can cost as much as the Pearl!
2. Straps are a little tedious to adjust.
3. Car seat holder doesn't work well with a Graco Snug N Ride. Instructions for attaching a car seat are confusing. The seat can latch on, but because there is only one recline position, baby may does not wind up at a good angle.
4. Apparently no longer manufactured.

I'm very happy with ours. If it broke today, and I couldn't get a replacement under warranty, I'd still try to buy another one.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fancy stroller for a fancy mama!, January 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a very fancy stroller. Everywhere I go with it I get asked where did I get it and how much I paid for it. My neighbor, upon seeing it, immediately said "Wow, you must have paid a fortune on this stroller but it looks wonderful." The stroller did not get 5 stars because it does have glaring drawbacks (heck, I should give it less stars but I do love it too much).

1) There's only one reclining position: normal upright and completely horizontal. This is good if you have an infant but with a bigger baby it's ridiculous as big babies refuse to lay down unless they are eating a bottle and even then.

2)The storage basket underneath does not hold more than a water bottle and maybe a small diaper bag which will fall out anyways. It needs to be bigger!

3) The seat itself is only held together at two points: one side of the stroller and the other. And the holders are made of plastic!!!! I don't know how sturdy this is but I have not had problems with it so far.

4) The holding straps button very low, almost at the crotch of the baby, and I feel that soon my 13 month old will learn how to wriggle out of the straps. We have yet to see this.

5) Its heavy! You need a man, or at least a second person, to carry it for you if you are carrying a baby.

Good points:

1) The reason I purchased this stroller is because it has parent facing seat feature and I love it and my baby loves it.

2) Telescoping handle is awesome because I am very tall and my feet touch the wheels of almost any stroller. But not this one!

3) Stroller is very easy to maneuver.

4) Easy to fold and unfold.

5) Smooth ride but does make squeaky noises (nothing WD 40 can't take away).

6) Stroller is not as big as some of the other fancy 3-wheelers and it can fit into tight spaces, especially when folded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Stroller, September 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love this stroller! I am on my third baby and have been lusting over the UppaBaby Vista stroller. I could not afford to spend $650 on a stroller so I began searching for something comparable and found it in this stroller! I love the reversible seat, great recline and easy fold! My four year old can still sit comfortably in this stroller too! The only negative I can mention is that the underseat basket is not quite large enough and is not easily accessible when the the seat is facing the parent! Overall I couldn't find a better priced stroller with the same features and very happy with this stroller!Delta Children's Products Simmons Pearl Stroller in Bahama Blue

3.0 out of 5 stars OK stroller, June 28, 2009
By
This review is from: Delta Children's Products Simmons Pearl Stroller in Orange (Baby Product)
This stroller has been allright. Pretty easy to put together and love the front and back facing seat. The fabric has not held up great where my daughters feet hit. It is fraying. Also, the foot muff just will not stay on. It also states that you can remove the wheels to may it less bulky in the back of you car. When I tried to do this the pin that you push to release the rear wheels, the pin pushed back into the stroller and now there is no pin holding the wheels on in the rear on one side. Overall a little disappointed, but would have been allright had I not tried to remove the wheels. It is rather bulky with them on and I have a pretty big SUV. Takes up a lot of room. I debated between this and the Mia Moda Cielo Evolution which folds minute but doesn't face backward. I have since bought that stroller and love it. I wish I would have picked that one from the beginning. Definately can not take this one to Disney, but the other will do great.

2.0 out of 5 stars My favorite stroller by far BUT...., June 15, 2009
I bought this stroller in Feb. I took it with me through the airport 2x and on a week long cruise. It is such a great stroller for the most part (minus the basket being faced the wrong way)...

BUT...The end cap is missing...and the brakes DO NOT work on mine. I tried for a MONTH to contact Delta Simmons about getting it fixed..
They don't carry replacement parts for it..and can't send me a new one because they're not getting anymore in.

So...they want me to pack it up and ship it to them to get a refund. Leaving me without a stroller for my non-walking daughter! AHH..
So disappointed now! I was recommending this product to everyone..but not anymore. What good is a stroller if the company can't fix it when it's not working? :( :( :( :(
