5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best games I've played, March 25, 2009
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Delta Force Black Hawk Down (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
This is a great classic game that created lots of good times for me. You can play independently or with an online community. This game portrays a realistic view into the actual conflict. To me, realism is very important when playing a video game like this. You have to be able to feel like your there in the conflict, part of a team, with realistic enemies and surroundings to enjoy the game the way its intended. The weapons are detailed and fairly accurate and the surroundings are easy to navigate through. This game offers several different types of game play online (such as TDM, TKOTH, DM, CTF, etc) to change things up and create different objectives. This game is great for a novice FSP player to learn how to play effectively and be a team player. The online community was great, I had a blast playing this game years ago. In my opinion, this game was far better than its successor, Joint Operations, despite JO's improved content.

I've owned and played this game for over five (5) years, I still love it and I forgive it the glitches. I played this game so much my first CD exploded in my 50X drive, I had to buy a new drive a bit slower this time, a new CD and played that one so much it too developed a crack and isn't playable anymore. The OL game play is fast, fun, and just such a blast DO NOT MISS IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delta Force Black Hawk Down, September 27, 2007

A few months ago I bought a copy of the game Delta Force for one dollar at the local grocery store. I was very happy with my purchase and so I ordered Black Hawk Down for $5 off of Amazon. I expected to have problems since the game was released in 2005. I tried to load Doom 3 and other games and they won't play correctly on my computer. Too slow. This one played fine and I even upgraded all of the graphics settings to thier highest points without it causing any problem on my computer. The graphics are great compared to the ones in Delta Force which I thought were good considering when the game was released. I haven't tried to play this online so I don't know if there are any issues there. I become bored with most videos games but this one was fun all the way through.

I must say, I loved this game back in 2005 when I first bought it at Costco for a dirtcheap $20. I was a teenager back then and I must have played this game for hundreds of hours. I had a blast knifing, shooting, medic healing, and all the fun stuff you do on a battlefield.

This game isn't like Counterstrike or Call of Duty. This game is unique and basic, yet sophisticated all at the same time. Certainly this game doesn't have the greatest of graphics, but it is just so fun!

I bought this game primarily to play online against other players. I'm glad after 5 years, there are still running servers out there with people consistently playing. It's a lot of fun and simple enjoyment. Join the community, buy now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Old game, but still fun and historically interesting, August 19, 2009

This is a 2003 game, so graphics are simple by today's standards. The jewel case version (released in 2005) has the patches already installed when you load it up, saving you the need to do it yourself.

Basically, the game takes place in Somalia during 1993. You play the part of one of the Delta Force soldiers going out to execute various missions among the rebels and gangs. You get to choose your weapons before each mission, but there is also a default set you can stick with. Basically you get a rifle, pistol, and some kind of explosive weapon (demolition packs or a rocket launcher). You also have grenades and a couple of the assault rifles include grenade launchers. Rifles can be set to shoot in auto mode or single shot.

Each mission allows a limited number of saves depending on the length of the mission and how difficult it is. I sometimes had saves left after completing a mission, but often used them all.

You have some team members that you can issue commends to, but I never did that. It's not as sophisticated as newer squad based shooters and the team members did reasonably well without my guidance.

I'm not sure how historically accurate the early missions are, but the actual events that the game is named after are particularly interesting if you've read the book, Blackhawk Down. You get a sense of what these guys were dealing with in the sense that you are very often being attacked from multiple directions simultaneously.

There are med kits distributed through the game so you can restore your health. Ammo is likewise available. I ran out of ammo once, but then started to be more careful about wasting ammo by shooting in automatic mode instead of single shot.

The game ran smoothly with no crashes on my Vista x64 machine. It was about average length and consistently challenging (no real easy missions and none that were frustratingly hard). It's not ground breaking even for its 2003 production date, but it's historically interesting in that the game tries to recreate actual events in the vein of Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. They actually include some news footage between some of the missions to set the stages and bring the storyline into focus.

Highly recommended, especially at the $6.44 price I paid for it.

This game may be old, difficult to install, and the graphics may not be great compared to more recent games, but it is a TON of fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loads of fun, October 23, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This game is excellent. The action is intense, and the dangers are more varied than in Delta Force. For example, in one mission, you have to traverse a minefield as well as deal with crocodiles. Being able to use vehicle mounted weapons is a lot of fun as well.

Unfortunately, there are a few major glitches in the game. First of all, the nightvision doesn't work. This may be due to inadequacies in my PC's graphics capabilities, I don't know.

Second of all, if you update the game AFTER you have already saved the game at various points in missions, you will not be able to load those old saved games.

I payed $39.99 at wal-mart when it first came out and after several years my CD got a crack in it so I had to buy a new one. My brother-n-law who is a big amazon fan told me to check them out for a great price and boy he was right I got this game brand new here on amazon for only $8.00 bucks with S/H!! Thanks amazon for the great deals.
