Delta Post Haste,

This item was impossible to find at local cycle shops, so I had to purchase it on specifications (and faith). I was not disappointed, the unit is very light weight and relatively compact- just what I wanted.
The only minor difficulty was the bracket (to mount a rear reflector) was inserted in the main support tube. Instructions did not indicate this, and the fixture, contained within a plastic bag, was lodged within the tube (some 10" deep). WIth my wife's acumen, knitting needles and finally a drain unclogging tool, we we able to coax out the fixture. Don't let this detail scare you off- it's a great product!

Good seat post rack. It mounted fine to my giant yukon. Be advised that the amazon picture shows a 4 bolt mount however the item description was still stating it was a quick release. It is not a quick release. Other than that no problems. Amazon was offering a delta rack/bag combo at a very reasonable price you may want to look for it. june 2007

Bought it maybe 6 months ago for my mountain bike. It seemed ok at first. I ride 7 miles to work each day one way. 5 days a week. I put my work back pack on it so I don't have to carry it. Some days it weighed more that the new weight limit of 10 pounds, but most days it did not. The Tubular spine is aluminium so it started to bulge at the base of the tube and the paint started to flake off at the top. After 3 months the bag area was level and slowly headed towards the wheel. Then before it could make it the aluminium pins holding the clasp together broke. Its not very well made. Everything is Aluminium to save weight. Its weak. The printed card that came with it said it could handle 40lbs originally. It was edited with a sticker that said 10lbs. I don;t think it could even handle that over rough roads and time. Get something more durable. This doesn't last. I got a Topeaker QR beam rack in the end. Its a bit shorter which is a shame but its much more solidly built.

OK for light loads,

I had this seat-post rack for about a year before it gave out on me. It is convenient and pretty easy to attach, but beware of putting too much weight on it. Mine snapped clean through the metal support tube on my way back from the grocery store and that was the end of that. I was carrying one gallon of milk and some other, smaller, items. I do admit that I was probably pushing the weight limits a bit. I have moved on to the "Delta Mega Rack Universal Rear Bike Rack" and it seems to be much sturdier so far.

I commute everywhere on my bike. Initially, I was wearing a backpack, however my back would always get really sweaty so I purchased this rack to get it off my back. For the price i don't think I can really complain, it works out well enough for me (at least so far).
Pros: 1. I don't like the look of the full bike racks that attach near the hubs (I know they function better but they just look kinda goofy to me). 2. As far as bike racks that attachs soley to the seatpost, it holds a decent amount of weight. 3. It isn't terribly difficult to remove/install, just 4 allen head bolts. But with no quick release, I'm less worries about it getting stolen. Cons: 1. The rack is too high. The "platform" that you strap objects to, is too close to the saddle, and therefore I really can't use the whole surface because it sits just under the saddle and things will not fit. 3 stars because I have been limited not by weight, but by surface area to carry things on.

I bought this beam rack for a used bike I bought this winter that did not have eyelets to fasten the conventional struts of a bike rack. It is sturdy and well made, but the angle of your seat post dictates the leveling angle of the rack platform, without any adjustment that I could find. The first time I installed the rack, the rear of the platform was tipped up at a sharp angle, not close to level. It was unusable as was, and looked stupid as heck. Through trial and error, I shimmed the seat post out with folded pieces of an old inner tube, and eventually leveled the platform. That done, it works well, and looks cool. Am I missing something, or is there a built in option for leveling this beam rack? If not, there should be.
Also the bolts are soft aluminum and should be tightened with care to avoid stripping. Steel bolts would have been better.

I purchased this rack to hold a 15 pound battery pack for some very bright commuter bike lights. I installed the 4-bolt clamp with some rubber gasket material (from Home Depot) between it and the seat post, and I tightened the bolts in a "criss cross" pattern, just like tire lug nuts. I only used it for about two weeks (I switched to using a back pack for the battery because it was so heavy it really messed up my balance and maneuverability when attached to the bike), but it never slipped or rotated, and there were no signs of stress. My only suggestions for improvement would be to include rubber gasket material with the rack as sold, and to use stainless steel nuts, rather than just the threaded aluminum clamp, because aluminum is subject to stripping more easily.

nice product. Fits tight, and you don't need the mounting points just a seat post. Make sure you have everything tied down. Will eject anything on or in (springboard style) if it is not very well contained even on the softest/slowest curb descent/ascent.

Works greats, holds my grocery crate like I wanted. I bought a used one and the bolts were cheap and already stripped, but it was easy enough to get new ones.

This is not a bad rack for the money and for a staff mount it's pretty sturdy---however, the supports for the panniers are constructed I think of hardened Italian pasta and if you put any serious weight in your bags, they are going to flex the side supports and push them into your tires. Not fun. Sold the rack at a garage sale as it is useless for groceries. Okay for raincoats, feathers, envelopes, one book, a peach, things like that.
