I got the rasp and have tried it on several horses. Honestly, I think I could do a better job with an emery board. It fits nicely in the hand, it just doesn't take off any hoof at all no matter how hard I try. Nice idea, need better rasps on it.

Does not work like you would think it should,

I bought this rasp thinking I could use it to put a bevel on my horse's hooves easier than with a regular rasp. Boy was I wrong. This rasp is ackward to hold in your hand and barely takes off any hoof at all with each stroke. It can not be used to make a bevel because of the way you need to hold it against the hoof to make it trim. This would be a great rasp for someone who had no idea what they were doing because there is no way you could take off enough hoof to screw up your horse's feet! Honestly, if you want to be able to trim just buy a regular rasp. It is much easier to use and actually removes the hooof in a couple of strokes so you are not standing there all day.

This product is only good if you are desperate, if you have any idea how to use a normal rasp this is not for you.

Rider's rasp is a terrible waste of time and money. As it does not do the quarters on the foot and you cannot get enough momentum in that short of space to actually pare down the hoof wall. You would have to apply 20 to 30 pounds of pressure to even get a powder out of what you are rasping. I liken this product to more of a cheese grater and probably a poor one at that. The metal is not sharp like on a real rasp. You would have to work for 20 minutes to get anything off the foot.

RidersRasp,

RidersRasp offers replacement rasps for the RidersRasp. I use a Medium Coarse rasp (not medium Finish)for my RidersRasp. I also don't wait too long to use it, A couple of weeks after my horses are trimmed I start using it. It is NOT a Trimming tool.
