The quest continues on a journey to the Lake of Tears.,
This review is from: Deltora Quest #2: the Lake of Tears (Paperback)
Deltora. A beautiful, magical world covered by the shroud of darkness, its people suffering under the oppressive rule of the evil Shadow Lord. Three strangers come together - Lief, son of the blacksmith who tried once before to save this world and failed, Jasmine, a girl left orphaned and alone, and Barda, a former palace guard determined to restore Deltora's rightful ruler to the throne. These three vastly different people share one quest - to find the seven stones that can save Deltora. To achieve their goal, Lief, Jasmine, and Barda will face every imaginable danger that Deltora holds. But they are determined to succeed. And they will succeed - if only they can survive. The latest leg of their journey takes them to the Lake of Tears, a beautiful place turned ugly and evil by a fiendish sorceress. Now Lief and his companions have one more goal they must accomplish - to free the Lake of Tears. Otherwise, they can never find the second stone required to save Deltora. This exciting, epic new fantasy series continued with this wonderful book. I can't wait to read the third book, which takes Lief, Jasmine, and Barda to the horrifying City of the Rats. Emily Rodda has created a magical, harshly beautiful world as a setting for this series.

Deltora Quest Book 2: The Lake of Tears,
This review is from: Deltora Quest #2: the Lake of Tears (Paperback)
The Lake of Tears is the second to the Deltora Quest series. In this book the trio of Lief, Barda, and Jasmine are off to the Lake of Tears to get the second gem to the Belt of Deltora. The gem was the Ruby, which they had to defeat the evil Thaegan to get. In the first book of the series, Lief found out from his father, Jarred, that he was the one who was meant to save Deltora by finding the Seven Gems of the Belt of Deltora. By defeating Thaegan they shall have two of the gems and be on there way to saving their home from the evil Shadowlord.
Emily Rodda used tons of details in this new addition to her fantasy series filled with mischief and mysteries. This book was probably the best fantasy book I have ever read and I recommend it to any fantasy, dragon, and magic lovers. I recommend this book to both boys and girl who are okay with some frightening events occurring throughout the book.

The Lake of this Books Captivation,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Deltora Quest #2: the Lake of Tears (Paperback)
When my Dad bought this book for me he had seen it on the shelf with the FORESTS OF SILENCE and THE CITY OF THE RATS. I should have known better than to read it when my Dad gives it to me because like HARRY POTTER not long after I read it I spiraled head over heels into the mystical world described by Emily Rodda. When I reached my Grandmother's house for presents I had THE FORESTS OF SILENCE on the floor and was reading THE LAKE OF TEARS. There was just something about that when I read it I could not over power its force and out it down until I was done. Maybe it was the action or the suspense or the monster Soldeen whose name reminds me of Goldfish but whatever the reason I could NOT wait for THE SHIFTING SANDS to be released.

This is my favorite book because it has the most action, there are many chase scense in it,and there is also a great ending with an awsome battle. I suggest you buy this one because it has a really weird Chapter where two people named Nij and Doj say everything backwards! If you're a Deltora Quest fan this is the perfect book for you. This was my favorite and I've already read five books goging onto Maze Of The Beast. Number 2 was my favorite, so I buy it and you'll see why it was my favorite.Buy it! I urge you to buy it, and you'll see why Emily Rodda's my favoite author. So just buy it or read it if you already have the book. (I ther was a ten stars raiting, I'd pick it!)

This is a marvelous series for new younger fantasy readers, and the first volume does a very good job of setting out the overarching quest story and establishing the characters.
This second volume meets the same high standard of interest and readability. Lots of series start strong and then peter out because all they had going for them was a novel premise that can't be mined forever. Because Rodda's books are strong on characterization, atmosphere and plot, it appears she will be able to keep the series moving forward. Great. I would suggest that if you haven't read Volume One, (Forests of Silence), you start there, because that is where all of the main characters are introduced and where the framing series narrative is fleshed out. Good reading, young questers.

A Good Series for Younger Readers,
By Sir Furboy (Aberystwyth, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deltora Quest #2: the Lake of Tears (Paperback)
This is the second in the popular Deltora Quest series. The story picks up where the first left off, with the quest for the next gem from the set that have been scattered across the world.
There are riddles and puzzles in this book. Few have any originality, but they are still good riddles, and for younger readers who have not seen them before, they will be fun to read and to amaze their friends with. My 7 year old daughter is enjoying this series very much. However there is less here for older readers - Amazon suggests an age of 9-12, but my recommendation would be children a little younger would enjoy these more.

This book focuses more on our little group of travelers rather than the set-up of the first book.
The new challenge: a watery world of danger and mystery that gives a terrifying and personal look at monsters: those forced to become them. Rodda keeps up her awesome adventure, characterizations, and spritely wit in this as the story becomes more and more exciting. This is excellent children's fantasy and I'd even go as far as recommending it to any adult looking for a good fantasy.

Wonderful book,
This review is from: Deltora Quest #2: the Lake of Tears (Paperback)
As soon as I finished Forests of Silence I plunged into Lake of Tears. This book kept me going with the series until the next one.
The Shadow Lord has taken over the land of Deltora and it is up to Lief, a young boy, Barda, an ex-palace guard and Jasmine, a wild girl who they met in the Forests of Silence to find all the jewels to the magic belt of Deltora to overthrow the Shadow. They already have the topaz but now they must find the next jewel in the deadly Lake of Tears. Filled with new friends like Manus, and absolutely teeming with villains like Thaegan the witch and two of her children whom I will not name, Grey Guards, the Shadow Lord's evil servents and the treacherous Soldeen, I will treasure this book forever. |
