5.0 out of 5 stars Go Deltora!, July 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Deltora Quest (Special Edition) Books 1-4 (Deltora Quest, books 1 through 4 (The Forest of Silence, The Lake of Tears, City of Rats, The Shifting Sands)) (Hardcover)
While I realize that the eight set is arriving soon, I still love the convenience of the quad style.

As for the story itself, these are enchanting and should be classics as far as fantasy, any fantasy, is concerned.

Emily Rodda, with her simple-but-tight writing, creates a vivid world of magic and adventure with larger-than-life characters with whom one can still relate and imaginative puzzles and plotlines.

Great introductory fantasy for kids, any fan will continue to like these forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son loves this book, February 20, 2008

This review is from: Deltora Quest (Special Edition) Books 1-4 (Deltora Quest, books 1 through 4 (The Forest of Silence, The Lake of Tears, City of Rats, The Shifting Sands)) (Hardcover)
I must say, I and my son are very pleased with this book. Since he received it, he hates to put it down. It arrived in a quick manner and in great shape. The author has really captured that "something" to interest my 8 yr old son. It had been hard to find a book that he would really enjoy, and not put down with lack of interest after the first chapter. He loves the characters in this book. My thanks to Emily Rodda for helping to make my son a more avid reader.

4.0 out of 5 stars A short, easy good read with a great hype and storyline suited with a unpredicable string of events!, June 22, 2006
A Kid's Review
Deltora quest is a wonderful book series equiped with a well written and smooth going plotline that never fails to entertain you, this will keep you reading, and for as long as the series goes you will be glued to the adventures tale. The books starts out with a full explanation of how the Shadow Lord( A ruler hidden in the Dark Shadow Lands, a place unknown to Del Kingdom and the rest of the land of Deltora) To two counties silently wage against each other as the Palace of Del goes along with it's duty, foolish Kings and Queens following the rules and foolishly blinded by a great magic that stops them from helping Del and it's starving people. The beggining of the book offers a great story to help make sense of what you read but you amazingly open your eyes to surprise as the characters watch it all unfold. The Shadow Lord ceases controll of Del and all of Deltora and scatters the 7 gems of the Belt of Deltora accross lands known to be dangerous and impossible to reach. The 3 main characters of the book keep a strong standing personality throughout the enitire set of 4 books, in one excellent put together read full of suspense and goodness and wickedness. Some parts of the Quad I found great was the riddles with the guard, all of the characters showed their intellagence and it was enthrilling! Another was the Nij and Doj chapter, for it was surprising as is just showing how everything you read in this book has a message to another part, so you need to hunt for familiar word or clues to figure out what to do next. In the Bridge Gaurd's riddle about Thaegan, you notice 2 of Thaegans children we're Jin and Jod, and Nij and Doj is Jin and Jod backwords! If you read everything they say backwords the enitre chapter is revealed! I recomend this book for all, old and young. It's clever and excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy to have them altogether, May 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I went for years seeing these books around without ever bothering to read them until a friend forced me to. And I was more than pleasantly surprised. This is an incredible fantasy series--that small kids can appreciate. And yet I've seen "adult" fantasy books that aren't nearly as well-written or well-crafted.

I like this edition because having four books together rids us of the necessity of having to waste time getting the next book out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Engaging for Adults and Kids, December 14, 2011
This is an excellent series for kids and adults will find themselves similarly enthralled. Some of the chapters are predictable but the characters (for once) include a strong girl who outsmarts and can outwit the boys. It is a page turner for most children and adults. I would strongly recommend this to anyone who would like adventure books. It's characters come to life much like that of the Harry Potter series.

This is a great book for my nine year old. He loves having all the books in one hardback cover book. Plus, the hardcover protects the book while he takes it to school and then back home. This is a great read for anyone that likes sci-fi.
