This bundle is a great price at $116 at the time of writing this review the lens itself sells for over $100 on Amazon. To me this lens and this package is a must buy for any new digital SLR owner and even advanced users. This is one of my favorite lenses and I always keep it on my camera. Of all the bundles I've seen on Amazon with this lens I like this one the best for the price. When I bought my 50 mm lens and filter I paid more than this to buy them separately so the rest of these accessories are just icing on your cake.

You should always buy a UV filter to protect the glass on any lens you have. This in my opinion is the one thing everybody who purchases an expensive lens should do. UV filters don't affect the photographs you take but it's a layer of plastic between the scratchable glass and the world around you. It's a MUST BUY.

If your photographer who's not on a budget and really wants the best lens in my opinion check out the 50mm 1.4 f-stop lens below. It retails for about $300 but it's such a better lens and has another step down in your f-stop from 1.8 to 1.4. And its aperture has eight blades instead of just five found in this lens. The effect of more blades means the objects in your background will have a smoother blur to them and generally will look better.
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Standard & Medium Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

Here I'll explain how the f-stop or aperture priority works on digital SLR cameras. Basically the aperture is a circle inside the lens that as you go up in your f-stop from 1.8 to 2.2 to 3.0 and beyond it shrinks the size of this circle in the lens.

Love my lens. Love the filter and lens hood. The tripod is tiny. All around great. Every photographer should have a 50mm lens in their bag.

I am just starting to build my Lens collection for my Canon EOS Rebel Digital SLR camera. I have had my eye on this lense for quite some time, and i was so excited to find it at such a great price!! I havent used the hood or the stand yet, but the lens and the filter work perfectly!

The Canon 40mm f/1.8 II is a really nice lens. I purchased this one specifically for astrophotography. I've found that the lens works really well with good stars across the majority of the field. Using a Canon T2i, this lens gives a field of view of approximately 25 x 16 degrees. I've had several images end up in magazines and websites using this lens. For examples, search for my name and Flickr.

So The accessory bundle is a nice idea, but other than the lens hood and uv protector...the others are generic and better suited for a point and shoot. No way will the table top tri pod hold a dslr of any size...Lens was great, and a wonderful addition to my hobby!

Wife loves it. For the money this lens can't be beat. Would recommend over the more expensive versions for any beginner.
