A Deluxe Book of Flower Fairies

My sister-in-law has this book for her granddaughter, and when she showed it to me, I didn't want to put it down! Not only is the cover a luxurious padded work of art in itself, it has gilt edges in silver. There is much to be seen inside the book as well, with an opening story of Cicely and how she came to create her imaginitive works (the reader can even see pictures of the children she used as models for her flower fairies!). I think this book makes a delightful addition to any collection, for children and children-at-heart alike. After all, as I write, I am getting ready to order a copy for my two month old daughter (here on Amazon.com)! Enjoy!

The book is lovely, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. I thought it might be a collection of Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairy stories, but instead it's poetry and botanical information, along with gorgeous illustrations. Not sure my 5-year-old, for whom I intended this as a gift, will like it nearly as much as she would have liked stories.

I showed this to my small children, older nieces, sister, mother, friends, and grandmother. It appealed to all of them. I bought the deluxe book of flower fairies, the complete flower fairy book and the paper doll book. I needed them for art reference books.

The difference in the first two is:
The deluxe book has a history of the author, her sketches and inspirations, timeline, her prosesses, lots of botanical notes. very collectiors edition, silver leaf and all.

The complete book has fairy's has a 1 page intro of the author then goes straight into images and poems. each has the seasons collections, but the complete has; in addition, the fairies of the garden, trees, wayside and a flower fairy alphabet.

This is one of the most beautifully illustrated book I have ever owned. I use it to paint watercolor pictures and since purchasing it 2 other of my friends have also purchased it from you.

gave this to my granddaughter, age 6. Her mom is a folklorist and they love fairies and floers so this was the perfect book for them to share. They love it!

From the information about the book, I thought it was a complete book of Barker's fairies. It is NOT, and the images I wanted the most were NOT included. The book itself is printed with a sort of "fake elegance," including a padded cover and gold edges on the paper. I would rather had had a conventional binding.

Purchased for my wife; she absolutely loves this book. It will be in our family for a long time.

If you love the flower fairies of years ago, you will love the reprinting of their stories.
