We have built in all of the best features of function and comfort into our Deluxe Grocery Bag. The size is the same as a paper grocery bag, not too big and not too small. Exterior piping stitching gives the bag strength and support to stand up while loading. Six interior sleeves can be used to hold bottles and tall items in place. Long lasting, heavy-duty construction will allow you to save paper and plastic bags for many years. Don't be fooled by cheap polyester and synthetic reusable bags. They are actually made from oil and are NOT biodegradable. Our bags are made of ORGANIC COTTON. Although higher in cost, it provides huge benefits to the environment and our health by avoiding the highly toxic pesticides, fertilizers and processing chemicals used in regular cotton crops. Washing and Care: These bags are made of heavy-duty 11 oz. canvas and will last for many years. They are easy to care for by washing them in COLD water and flat or line drying. Color bags are prewashed during the dyeing process so the fabric is softer and shrinkage is minimal. Natural bags are unprocessed canvas so they're initially much stiffer. After the first few washes Natural bags MAY appear excessively wrinkled and shrunken, depending on your water hardness and laundry detergent. DON'T BE ALARMED. You can stretch them back out and reduce the wrinkles by pulling on the fabric when the bag is wet. You'll be very surprised how much the canvas stretches back out, and the wrinkles recede. After stretching, fold it flat and air dry. When bags are filled with heavy loads they will also stretch out and soften, until they are "broken in". Over time the natural bags become softer, similar to the color bags. The Natural bags permanent shrinkage will be 8-10% (~1 1/4") in length and 5% (~3/4") or less in width.

The good news: These bags are super sturdy and can pack a lot without feeling like they're going to break. The straps are nice and long, which is just what I've been looking for. I like the pockets for bottles on the inside (although none of the baggers I've encountered have used them so far!) However, I just now washed them for the first time and followed the instructions (cold wash, line dry) and I can't believe how much they've shrunk. I expected some shrinkage as they are cotton, but not this much! (Especially with following the given instructions on how to wash them.) I'm really disappointed, as the roomy size was part of the appeal for me.

I had the same problem as the other reviewer who rated this product 3 stars. I was super-excited and loved these bags when I first got them about a month ago. I've used them over and over again, no problems. They were perfect - roomy, taller than other cheap canvas totes I've had, comfortably long handles, and the bottle sleeves were a nice extra because they would lay flat against the inside of the bag when not in use, completely out of the way. However, I washed all three today because something had spilled in one of the bags, and all three shrunk and crinkled horribly. If you've ever tried washing the free canvas totes from animal rights/environmental charities, you'll know what I'm talking about. Knowing that the cotton would inevitably shrink some (SOME), I carefully washed them in my front-loading washer, cold hand-wash cycle, and hung them to air dry. They are now MUCH shorter, and the bottle sleeves, oddly enough, didn't shrink as much as the outer part of the bag, so they are now larger in comparison and droop awkwardly. They seem like they'll get in the way and be more of a nuisance than before, so I might cut them out entirely. I spent some time this morning ironing the bags, stretching them, and then hanging them with heavy objects to stretch the fabric. Seriously, I rarely iron my clothes, but I'm sitting here ironing reusable grocery totes?? Unreal. I've bought other items from this company that I love (muslin produce bags and cotton mesh produce bags), and they wash beautifully. I'll admit, I once put the produce bags in the dryer on ultra-low heat because I was in a time-crunch, and they came out perfect - negligible shrinkage if any at all, so I expected these to be of the same quality. I've bought other large, heavy-duty cotton canvas totes from Earthfare that withstood wash after wash, no problems at all, and I only wish I could find more of those exact totes now that Earthfare no longer carries the ones I bought several years ago (and although they were probably twice the price of these bags here on amazon but definitely worth the higher price for how enormous those bags were - and still are after many washings over the years).

These bags are the best! They're extremely well made from heavy cotton and feel indestructible. The baggers love them because they can really load them up and they still feel tough and strong. The pockets for bottles are really great because they can give a solid form to the bags which allows for more packing room. I plan to buy for family members for presents.
