I've put together lots of Legos...and Mega block items and they're all comparable. I did not find this item to be overly complicated or difficult to assemble. In fact it was fairly easy. As with all of these types of building sets, parts fall off occasionally. Ours has stayed together since Christmas with only minor repairs. Our seven year old loves the pirate figures and the treasure chests (O.K. we do too). We just built a mega pirate fort using three sets joined together so there is a lot of room for imaginative play.
We really enjoy this product and plan on buying more. Most importantly, we have not experienced the problems that the other reviewers mentioned.

What happened to the good old Legos?,

This product has a cool concept but became a quick disappointment.
A word of advice... buy superglue.... Assembly is very frustrating as the pieces do not stick together. and when one falls they all fall. After about the 10th time of reassemblying the whole family got fed up and we cranked out the super glue on the major structural parts. For the smaller kiddos .... I wouldn't waste you time or hard earned money!

I have had ten years of playing, but these MEGA BLOCKS ships are fairly new. they arent exactaly like legos... wich explanes the poor revews!
the boat can howevever use Super Glue (as any lego set can) but DO NOT glue the mast or sails. It will be impossible to store. I liked the pix in the direstions of the guys makeing the ship. by the way this is a remake of the Storm Stalker (also avalb) but you can still play with both.

I've read the reviews of this toy and felt strongly enough to post my own. It is unrealistic to compare a lego style build project to the durability of a tonka truck. My sons and I have done many builds of both Mega Bloks and Legos. The ship is a remarkable value. It is comparable in value to the more expensive toy ships Black Pearl and Empress, of Pirates of the Carribean fame. It is a simpler build, easily completed, and very sound. The main peices snap together and do not come apart. The main mast can wiggle loose, but a little Shoe Goo helped that. Having to glue parts on build design toys is common.
My boys, ages 11, 7 and 5, love the ship. They have many others, but this one takes their fancy. It has the special 'wow' factor. And unlike the more expensive boats, this one actually rolls across the floor on small wheels. Mega Bloks has achieved an amazing accomplishment with its Pyrates and Dragons lines of toys. The Scathe is in keeping with that tradition. It's a wonderful value in today's world of hot air, and I'm darned glad my sons have one.

My 9-yr-old son loves the Pyrates building sets...he has several of them and loves them all. Some of the sets are the large pirate ships, and then some of the sets are smaller play sets. He'll spend hours building all of them and pretend that they're all in the sea at the same time...he'll play with them all day...for a few days...then put them away and get them out again in a week and do the whole thing all over again! Building anything with Legos is educational and fun for him.

My 8-year old son loves this ship. He had the Pirates of the Carribean model also, but this one is his favorite. There are a couple of pieces that kept falling off so I used a little model glue and they haven't given us any trouble since. He will never want to take it apart and rebuild it anyway so I may just glue it all. It is a cool ship!

My son collects the Pyrates sets and now has them all. This one is just like the rest in that they do not stay together. Actually, this one is the worst of them all because we couldn't even get the mast to snap on correctly and stay on because of a defect in the piecing of the boat. The mast constantly pops out. These sets are cool to look at, but my son won't play with them because they are constantly falling apart. My husband has even talked of gluing them together. The pirate figures that come with the set are pretty neat and they are my son's favorite part of the set. The detail is incredible on all the pieces, which is one of the reasons we do like these sets. I grew up with Legos and prefer those over the Mega Bloks because they are much more durable and easier to build with, but they are not as detailed. These sets are more for show than play.

My son is 5 years old and a big fan of pirates toys. When I saw the box I was extremely impressed with the display. The box advised that the toy was for kids 6 and older.
The ship is a "Lego" type structure requiring some assembly. As I have had prior experience assembling Lego models I felt I was up to the task. What I did learn is this definitely isn't the same quality as a Lego product as the pieces would not lock together. Upon assembling the main structure, the pieces would snap out of place with out warning. After about 20 minutes of stress trying to keep the structure intact during the assembly process, I decided it was time to take a break. Returned 20 minutes later, and the portion of the structure that I was able to lock the pieces together had again started to fall-apart. I proceeded to shove the pieces back in the box and rush it back to the department store for a refund. Maybe I have the patience of a 6 year old, but I can't see my 5 year old enjoying playing with a toy which collapses when moved. Pros: Box and packaging is impressive. The look and feel of the pieces is very detailed Cons Instructions could be clearer. Although the Lego concept isn't difficult, a lot of trial and error is required. Quality control is not what I'm used to. Son never had a chance to play with this item as it was never assembled. I replaced it with the playmobil pirate ship and my son has really enjoyed playing with this product. |
