5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!!
I got this snuggle nest just before our son was born thinking it might come in handy. Well, it is fabulous! It keeps him "protected" within solid walls while still allowing him to be close enough to sense and smell us. It also keeps life easy for me when he wakes in the middle of the night to nurse or get a diaper change. I don't have to wait for him to cry loud enough...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not practical for co-sleeping
I read great reviews about the Snuggle Nest and had high hopes. I was, however, disappointed. It takes up a great deal of room in the bed-- my husband and I have a king-sized bed and we are average sized, but we barely had room to turn over!

Additionally, the main reason I wanted to co-sleep was to make nighttime nursing easier. With the Snuggle Nest's...

I don't have to wait for him to cry loud enough to wake me from another room. I hear him fuss and 'bam', I'm awake. Also, the DVD that came with the item is FANTASTIC! The Happiest Baby on the Block, ROCKS! Definately a must see for any new parent whether having your first or 10th (alright well maybe not 10th as by then you are some kind of child rearing god & goddess). It is amazing to see the techniques described actually work when applied to my own baby.

I will say if you have a small bed (ie., anything smaller than queen or extended queen) you will probably be cramped pretty bad with the snuggle nest placed in the middle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gives you a little peace of mind!, April 15, 2005
This review is from: Deluxe Snuggle Nest - Blue Patchwork (Baby Product)
We were only able to use this snuggle nest for a little while because my son seemed to outgrow it fast! But when we did use it, it served it's purpose...giving us peace of mind when our son was in between us. We have a queen size bed & it was a bit tight having it in between us...but since the sides of it are so strong, I did not have to worry about rolling over onto my baby, so I did not care.
If the sheet got dirty, I put a pillow case over the pad instead, while it was in the wash, & it fit perfectly.
I was a little disappointed that the attachable nightlight was broken when we opened the package but we did not really need it anyway.
Overall, I think it's a good product that served it purpose. I plan on saving it & using it for our next baby.

After waiting a lifetime to become a Mom, I just wasn't ready to put my baby in the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper attached to our bed (let alone a crib in the next room) after he was born. Lucky for me, his father feels the same way. Thus, we argued about who "got" to have the baby on their side of the bed. We wanted him between us so that we could both comfort and love him through the night.

At first, I just put him between our heads in the center of the bed. However, I have read all the precautions about putting a baby in bed with you. A couple of times I jarred awake panicky that a blanket or sheet could be covering his face.

I had seen this snugglenest many times and thought it was pretty expensive. After all, I had a $169.99 co-sleeper attached to my side of the bed! What did I need a $50 snugglenest for?

I bought it three days into our baby-in-the-middle-of-us sleeping experience.

My spouse rolled his eyes when he saw me set it up the first night. I got a lecture about buying every contraption I read about online. He thought it was "stupid." He sneered at the cutesy name.

Now he won't go to bed without it.

The snugglenest provides a much safer sleep experience for moms and dads who want the baby between them. It has hard sides covered by a cushy quilted cover that is completely washable. It has a firm mattress that is much more appropriate for babies than an adult mattress. There is a sleep positioner included which we don't use. It has a wonderful little light that attaches to the top (which we use ALL the time). It packs up easily and is completely portable. Best of all, your baby can be right in the center of the bed yet contained in his or her own space.

Our son loves his snugglenest. He knows immediately that it's sleepy time when we lay him down in it. He will reach out to feel for us in the night and self-comfort back to sleep. Best of all, it makes transitions to other locations very easy. I have laid the nest in our co-sleeper, crib and taken it to family's house: it's like he has his bed and smells with him wherever we go. It has made changing his location much more simple.

I know there may be some reviews on here that are up-in-arms against the snugglenest because they believe the only safe place for a baby is in a crib. This argument is more anti-cosleeping than anti the snugglenest, however. Sleep location is a very personal issue. Co-sleeping can be very safe if both parents actively take responsibility for it. Last year more babies died in cribs than in any other sleep location.

The only downside of the snugglenest is that it does take up a lot of room. We have a queen sized bed and it's pretty tight. A king-sized bed would be better. I can't see having this with a full-sized bed or smaller.

Overall, we love the snugglenest!

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful for transitioning baby from mom to bassinet/crib, December 22, 2005
By
This review is from: Deluxe Snuggle Nest - Blue Patchwork (Baby Product)
Wow, well... there certainly are some polarized trains of thought on this product! Because of that, I felt compelled to write my experience with this item.

First of all, would I buy it again: YES! I think it served my purpose well of transitioning my son from sleeping on my chest and in my arms (months 1 & 2) to sleeping "on his own"... first in our bed... then to his bassinet... and now to napping in his crib (He has reflux so we eventually had to buy an Amby Bed for nighttime sleeping -- but that is a totally different story).

Now my story: My son was -- and still is -- a challenging sleeper. What I mean by that is... while I can always get him to sleep, keeping him sleeping was -- and, er, still is -- a challenge. From about week 1, he would wake out of a sound sleep as soon as I put him down in his bassinet. He would cry and wail if I didn't let him sleep in my arms. As a new mom, I thought "but you MUST sleep on your back and on your own! Otherwise, I will be a bad, bad mother putting you at risk for SIDS!" Sigh. Eventually by week 2 I was sooooooo sleep deprived that I saw greater risk to his health by me... falling asleep as I nursed him and him falling out of my arms to the floor. So using a boppy pillow and other pillows, I set up a "nest" for myself on the living room couch to sleep locked (and I mean, LOCKED) upright... holding him. Voila! I finally got sleep in 2 hour increments! Whoo hoo!

Anyway, this arrangement went on working for a while (until about 2 mos. of age) until... I started getting unconfortable and really, really wanted to sleep lying down again... and, uh, free of baby. ;) But how? Anytime I tried putting him back in his bassinet or nursery crib, he'd wake and cry again. Hence in desperation, I bought the Snuggle Nest at a local store thinking... "well, maybe if I hold this on my lap as he sleeps in it I can eventually transition him out of my arms." And, it worked! He went from sleeping only in my arms... to sleeping in the Snuggle Nest in my arms... to sleeping next to me in the Snuggle Nest... to eventually in the Snuggle Nest placed in the bassinet... (and well, you get the picture).

So realize,
1. this product is not just for co-sleepers, and
2. not all babies adhere to the AAP guidelines as much as we'd like them to... but mom still needs her sleep and sanity!

Some other pros:
- Snuggle Nest helps baby feel, well, "snuggled" and therefore safe while sleeping which can be helpful if your infant is overwhelmed or alarmed by the size of their bassinet or crib.
- Snuggle Nest is a handy travel bed which could be calming for some babies always to have their exact "bed" to sleep in.
- As I wasn't planning on be a co-sleeper, this item made me feel safer about the few weeks my baby did share my bed with me.
- The nightlight is a handy feature and the free Happiest Baby on The Block CD cannot be beat (if you haven't read that book, at least get the CD!!!)

Some cons:
- At almost five months, my son is almost too big to really fit comfortably in the Snuggle Nest. So, duration of usefulness will depend on how long you plan to co-sleep with your baby.
- Yes, the hard sides mean that you will have to lift your baby out to breastfeed. (Well, at least I did -- I know of some women who lean over their infants to feed them at night, but I was always too groggy to trust myself doing that.)

Hope this perspective helps.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not practical for co-sleeping, October 27, 2004
This review is from: Deluxe Snuggle Nest - Blue Patchwork (Baby Product)
I read great reviews about the Snuggle Nest and had high hopes. I was, however, disappointed. It takes up a great deal of room in the bed-- my husband and I have a king-sized bed and we are average sized, but we barely had room to turn over!

Additionally, the main reason I wanted to co-sleep was to make nighttime nursing easier. With the Snuggle Nest's "walls," I still had to sit up and lift my daughter out to feed her . . . defeating half the purpose! Eventually I ditched the Nest altogether and my daughter slept in the crook of my arm. We slept much better, and my husband and I had room to wiggle!

It is a good product to use for naps and such when the baby has the bed to herself, but it can only be used until she can roll over anyway . . . for me, a product that only works part of the time for only a few months isn't worth the $50 price tag.

I travel a decent amount, and I bought this when my son was 3 days old. I found that after breastfeeding, i wanted to be close to him, but didn't want him to get SIDS, so this was perfect! It turns out, he slept really good in this because he felt cozy! Cribs are really too big for newborns, so i put it in his crib and he slept great, in his cradle, bassinet, couch, bed, wherever it was, he felt like he was always in the same place. Once i had to sleep somewhere in a twin bed, and it worked because he couldn't fall off. Very easy transportation wise too...it even has a handle. Only thing i wish...is that they made extra sheets for it, and that they made bigger ones. It did my son good for 3 months and is worth every penny. I buy it for every baby shower i go to.

I really liked this product because it made you (the parent) feel comfortable having a baby in your bed, on the floor, on the the couch or anywhere. It was a good size and I used it with both my children. It is only good for the first few months- most babies will quickly grow out of it. The mattress could be made better but I still thought it was a good item to have and made traveling easier. My husband loved the snuggle nest because of the safety aspect and how easily it stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Saver after Cesarian, February 17, 2005

I love the Deluxe Snuggle Nest. I found it to be a life saver after having a cesarian. A bassinett in our room was not possible as the bedrooms in our home are so small. Having the Deluxe Snuggle Nest allowed me to keep our little man safe in bed with us while also making it easy for me to feed him and care for him without having to climb in and out of bed myself. We also love its portability. We can take it into the living room if we want to have him in the same room as we are and it is the perfect nap space when he goes to Grandma and Grandpa's!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for co-sleeping... during and after!, July 20, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Deluxe Snuggle Nest - Blue Patchwork (Baby Product)
When we brought our daughter home from the hospital, she refused to sleep anywhere but with us. We ended up co-sleeping, even though we'd bought an Arms Reach Co-Sleeper for her. She just wouldn't tolerate it.

After a couple of months we started trying to get her out of our bed, but it didn't work, so we bought this. She slept in it in our bed for the first two nights. Now she sleeps in it in the co-sleeper, with no problems.

I think the construction makes her feel secure... when her arms flail out, she touches something. So she doesn't wake up looking for me.

Anyway... this product worked, she slept in it immediately, and now I don't feel like she'll be in our bed forever :). We can move it to the crib, and hopefully she'll sleep in it there, too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great and keeps baby cozy, September 21, 2005
This review is from: Deluxe Snuggle Nest - Blue Patchwork (Baby Product)
We bought a Snuggle Nest right after the birth of our son. I had complications and was on bedrest for weeks, so this was a lifesaver - it allowed me to keep him close and nurse him without having to get out of bed at night. I didn't have to worry about him because the snuggle nest is very solid and kept him in place. The light is cool too because it's dim enough that it won't rouse him out of sleep.

We transitioned him to his own crib after a few weeks (he's such a noisy sleeper and was preventing us from sleeping) by just placing the Snuggle Nest in his crib. He's now 7 weeks old and still using it - the side supports keep him feeling secure.

I will be traveling with him soon to visit family and I will definately be taking it with me...its not too big or bulky and will fill nicely in the bottom of a large suitcase. I highly recommend this!
