Product Description

Color: Red

Gardening is easier when you can sit, swivel and roll! Our back-saving Gardener's Supply Tractor Scoot lets you work from a seated position virtually anywhere in your yard or garden. Thanks to your input, we've made this customer favorite even more comfortable and easier to use. First, we added a longer handle so you can pull the Scoot behind you like a wagon. When retracted, the handle locks upright to make a sturdy handhold. We also lowered the swiveling, tractor-style seat by 3-1/2" to give you better access when planting and harvesting, and the seat now adjusts from 16" to 19" high, to suit your body and the task at hand. Lastly, we increased the weight capacity of the 1" tubular steel frame to 400 pounds. Hefty, pneumatic tires ensure a smooth, stable ride. And now, our Scoot has a new bucket basket. It's the perfect size for a 5-gallon pail or our 3-1/2 gallon Tubtrug and provides a convenient place to toss weeds or gather the day's harvest.

Having just finished assembling the Deluxe Tractor Scoot, I would like to give it just two stars for assembly and four stars for usability.

If you try to assemble this following the Tools Needed recommendation in the instruction booklet, you'll be sorely tried. The instructions say you need only a large flat blade screwdriver for slotted screws, an 1/2" or adjustable wrench and a pair of slip joint pliers. These tool recommendations are simply inadequate.

The nuts used to hold the parts together are Nylock nuts, a nut with a plastic insert that prevents the nut from vibrating loose. It also makes the nuts difficult to screw on. The recommendation that you hold or turn the screws with a flat blade screw driver does not make sense. All the screws are Phillips-type screws. Some also have a slot for a flat blade screwdriver as well. Because the Nylock nuts require a considerable amount of torque to screw on, one should use a #2 Phillips (the most common size) for the smaller screws. The Phillips screwdriver will stay in the recess in the screw head much more securely than a flat blade screwdriver would. Push down firmly and squarely. Hold the screw stationary and turn the nut with a 10mm wrench or socket.

The four large screws that hold the seat on are #4 Phillips (an uncommon size that most home owners would not have).
Tightening these large screws with a screwdriver and pliers, or even an adjustable wrench, would be frustrating for the strongest users and impossible for most people. I used a ratchet wrench with a #4 Phillips bit for the screw and a second ratchet wrench with a 17mm socket for the nuts.

It's bad practice to use any sort of pliers on bolts or nuts.

I have never had such high hopes for a product that, ultimately, disappointed so badly. The theory is that this scooter makes working in the garden from a seated position easy, and maybe even fun. It does neither. It is impossible to keep this thing going in a straight line, even with my garden rows being firmly packed. To get it to move I have to get off it, lift it to position the wheels in a straight line, and then move it to where I want to work, then get on it. When I need to move a bit further down the row, I must repeat the process all over again. I bought it because I have pretty severe arthritis, but didn't want to give up gardening. This just makes the process harder. I will be going back to using the little step-stool that I was using before.

This is the best thing I have for my yard work, with a bad lower back, this makes ease of working aroundhe garden, easily moves on all terrain. Husband uses it for working on motorcycle, we fight over it. LOL Easy to put together, sturdy.

Love yard work, my knees do not. I can prune flowers and work on many projects without having to kneel.

Previous buyers have been heard! My Scoot arrived extremely well packaged, and I found absolutely no scratches!!! In particular, the seat was wrapped in bubble wrap, and most of the parts were wrapped then tied together with more wrap so that there was no jiggling in the box, or opportunity to scratch. Though we are sitting here in Michigan with 150 inches of snow, I can tell I am going to love this thing. It is very well constructed, very sturdy, and in the end it will save my aching knees. I chose green, thinking it would be less of an attention getter if I left it outside. (Of course, my son, 29, immediately called me out. Said I should have gone for excitement, maybe red or yellow.) All of the parts were there, and I was thrilled to find that even the nuts and washers were on the appropriate bolts. It was a pretty easy and straight forward assembly. However, DO let it air for several days outside before beginning assembly. As they noted, the tires emit a nasty gas for days, and the plastic wrap was also infused with this smell.

Purchased for a friend of mine who injured her back. After assembling, it is working out well, Sturdy, the adjustable seat is an advantage, Small hand tools fit easily under the seat. A 20 pound bag of potting soil fits easily in the basket.

We went through 2 of these before we got one that wasnt damaged in shipping. I think the construction is a bit weak and could use some tighter tolerances. Overall the product is OK for the 100 bucks you pay for it and i know that it will be used at least this season. Will it last more than one season? Not sure based on the quality of the product i received

After reading many reviews I decided to try this scooter. I love it! I broke my foot a few years ago so squatting does not work on my foot, I also have knee issues. I had a cheap plastic cart that was always getting stuck in the soft garden soil and the seat cracked. So when I broke my toes this spring it was time to up grade. This one rolls much easier in the garden, still can have issues in really soft soil. I can sit and the ability to turn it while on it is a plus. Nothing is going to maneuver perfectly in good garden soil while you are on it but standing feels good every now and then. I love it. Works perfectly on a harder surface such as the lawn or sidewalk. And I love the basket to put a pail in for the weeds you pull and the tray underneath - very handy must have been designed by a gardener.
