I'm new to home wine making and decided on this kit based on price, components, and the positive Amazon reviews. I bought this along with one of the concentrate kits on Amazon (which are a great bargain by the way esp with free Prime shipping). My batch is almost ready for bottling and the wine is actually pretty good. Anyway, back to the kit...

It arrived in about a week from across the country and was packed very, very well. Glass carboy fully intact, all parts accounted for. You can get by very well with what is in the kit, but there are of course lots of other toys you can buy from this vendor and others to make your life easier (e.g., large funnels, no rinse sanitizer Star-San, carboy brush, sample thief) as well as more yeast and concentrates, etc. I bought another $80 or so in equipment from this vendor and got free shipping (code comes with kit) and super fast delivery.

Bottom line: Great vendor (learn to brew), great kit.... would buy it again and would recommend to anyone wanting to give wine making a go at home at a very decent price point.

This kit provides most of the materials to make wine. You will need 23 liters or 6 gallons of wine must or a concentrate of course. Note that the carboy is six gallons like the fermenting bucket, so be ready to top off the carboy to keep oxygen out, since your rackings will remove more and more sediment/wine (I used an argon/nitrogen gas blend to keep the wine fresh after fermentation stopped). Do not overuse your sulpher cleaning packets, you will need to sterilize everything after each use, including your bottles (which will also be bought separately). For the money however this is a fine kit to make roughly 30 bottles of wine at home with.

We ordered the kit and were given a 10-14 day wait on shipping because the kit was larger and took more to ship. We still got it in 4 days! From the order date; unbelievable great! It came with everything you need to start wine making; except a filter and bottles but honestly for the price and for the quality - we could ask for a better kit! Our friends and family love the wine we made from it! We will be using it again and again!

My first impression as a complete novice was that I was in over my head and the instructions included are not much help. That said, I believe that with some great books I already ordered ('The Wine Maker's Answer Book' and 'From Vines to Wines') I will be able to use this successfully. For anyone wanting to get into serious wine making there are permanent conical fermentors that require no siphoning and transferring for only about three times the price. While this has much of what's needed I already have a list of other items I think will make the process less hassle. Still this may be the best kit for the least price.

Good product Has everything you need to get started except the juice. Could use an instruction manual for beginners but there are plenty of good books on here.

Definitely recommend this starter kit for the first time home winemaker. It comes with most of what you need to get started (not everything, though). You will need to buy another bucket for bottling, some brushes, sterilizer liquid (Iodophor) etc. For the money, though, this is a great way to start.

I bought this as a first time wine kit maker, and I was very surprised. The directions were very clear, and the kit was very well supplied (including directions etc.) Chianti is a very dry wine, so I bought a bottle of commercial to do a taste comparison, and even after 3 weeks the wine tasted very similar. Many reviews will tell you to make only a 5 gallon batch, but if you bought the 6 gallon carboy, this is not a good idea for long time storage.

The process is too time consuming and not worth bothering with. I can't imagine anyone following the directions step by step unless they are playing scientist and have nothing else to do.
