Book Description

Sometimes life takes things away from you.

In nineteen-year-old Maggie Carson’s case, it’s taken more than its fair share.

Determined to move forward, Maggie embarks on her first year of college, hoping to finally put her past behind her, exactly where it belongs.

But that’s hard to do when the present is just as difficult. And even harder when someone like Ran, the gorgeous paramedic that keeps crossing Maggie’s path, challenges her to face things head on, rather than bury them like she always does.

Ran hasn’t had a perfect life either. But there’s something different about him, and something different about the way he makes Maggie feel. Maybe meeting Ran is life’s little gift for Maggie—a sort of consolation prize for enduring everything she's had to go through.

But things don’t come easy for Maggie. Why should love be the exception? And just when everything starts to settle, it’s all turned on its head once again.

If there is one thing Ran has taught Maggie, it’s that you can’t sit on the sidelines of your own existence. When life takes something that’s yours, you have every right to demand it back.

Only for Maggie, that is easier said than done.

(Ransom's Note, the sequel to Demanding Ransom, will release in early 2014.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Ransom? Yes, please! April 29, 2013

Demanding Ransom Review
5 stars from Kris at I Heart Books

I'll start off by admitting that it had been awhile since a book had really gotten me excited about it's characters, and drew me in to it. From the prologue Demanding Ransom had a grip on me.

An accident brings the handsome Ran into Maggie's life, but will she allow him to stick around? Will he allow her to brush him off? This isn't a quiz so I'll move on...

This was very well written; the characters emotions were so well conveyed that my anxiety so often spiked I had to set the book down! I laughed out loud quite often, I felt sorrow when appropriate, but also felt frustration for (and at) Maggie a few times. Sometimes it is hard being the reader when all you want to do is grab the main character by the shoulders and shake them! Don't get me wrong, Maggie's back story was well fleshed out so I understood where she was coming from, but at the same time I wanted her to grow before she was ready. Ran was just so understanding and evolved, I wanted her to see it... like, now!

Yeah, I am totally talking about them like they're is real, why not?

I was pretty much ready to write Megan hate-mail after she completely ripped my heart of my chest and held it in front of me! Luckily, for her and me, everything ends up working out as it should. Ran is my 2013 book boyfriend... I just wish there were some way to make him real. *sigh*

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit over the top for me May 3, 2013
By GL fan
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Boy, does Maggie have a lot going on in her life:
1. Brother's illness
2. Her car accident
3. Issues with her mom
4. Ran's accident

all of the above issues just make the story hard to focus on. I think the story would have benefited from the author focusing on one or two issues and developing them further.

I had a hard time warming up to Maggie. In the beginning, I thought she wasn't ver nice. Fortunately, Ran is persistent. He is so sweet and hot.

This book has a sequel, which is good to know since I thought the ending was unfinished.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST read May 20, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
There are books you read that you really like and are really great books. Then there are the few books that you cherish and they stick with you for a long time after you character's story ends. Demanding Ransom was one of those books for me. You can't help but become invested in Maggie and Ran's story and fall in love with them as they navigate through their journey together. As much as I love a great love story, I love even more the lesson tied into this amazing book. The lesson of learning that you must be able to forgive the biggest hurts in your life before demanding your life back. We are all broken people in this world and this well written book shows how we have to learn to let go and forgive before we can truly start living. Maggie and Ran's love story is up there with some of the greats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Stop Thinking About It! May 13, 2013
Format:Paperback
Most often, I read a book and move onto another ... new story, new characters. But I can't quite move onto another yet because I can't get Ran and Maggie off of my mind! The depth of this storyline is captivating and the relationship these two share is inspiring and beautiful. This is a story of pure love, hope, growth, and enduring through challenges, which are all lessons anyone can benefit from receiving.

I really enjoy each character in this book (particularly Ran!) and want to learn so much more about their future. I love that they have restraint in their physical relationship, yet are still so passionate! That is a great relief in a market overflowing with books that are way too explicit. And this really speaks volumes about the author's creativity and respect for her readers.

I completely recommend this book and am really looking forward to the sequel!

What can I say about this book.

First off you will not find any spoilers here from me. You must buy the book and make your own opinion on it and see what happens.

To me this is my first read from Megan Squires and I liked it very much.

She brought me into the lives of Maggie and Ran and I was not expecting her too.

This book had me in so many emotions on a roller coaster ride of a read.

Just simply fantastic.

I recommend this read and I know if you buy it you will love it as much as I did.

Should be more then 5 stars, but that is just me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book March 28, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book. It was a little slow paced but still good. I found it difficult to relate to the female character but she won me over in the end. I appreciated the nature of this book. It wasn't an erotic novel at all, but it was still a beautiful romance. And the twist towards the was great! I'm definitely excited to read more about these characters.

****** 4.5 Shining Stars! *******

"It's not natural to forgive. It's a choice, one that has to be intentionally made in order for it to be real."

I absolutely adored this book. I have read Megan's other books and this one is definitely my favorite! There were several moments that made me laugh, and other moments that made me tear up. It was an emotional roller coaster but the ride was so worth it!

Maggie has been through quite a bit in her short life. Her mother up and left when she was young so she grew up with her Dad and younger brother. They’re a close-knit family and when tragedy strikes not once, but twice, Maggie is left to pick up the pieces and keep her family together. That is until Ransom AKA “Ran” rescues her, literally, and a unique friendship is forged between the two.

“Your name is Ransom?”
“Yeah.”
“I just figured it was Rudolph or something,” I admit.
“I’m not a reindeer.” I try not to spray my soda out through my nose.
“That’s Rudolph, idiot.”
“I’m not that either.”

Ran is able to weasel his way into Maggie’s life with his charm, good looks, and wicked sense of humor. He’s never been serious about anyone until she came along, and he can’t get her out of his head. I was really frustrated with Maggie at times because she refused to let Ran in and was pretty rude to him on several occasions. Then I would remind myself that she’s been through quite an ordeal and has a lot on her plate. Thankfully Ran was patient and persistent.

“When will you get over the idea that life is all about owing people? The only person you owe anything to is yourself, and that’s the chance to prove that you’re capable of doing this.
