I found the Demeter fragrance library while doing a search online for a perfume that smelled like incense. The Demeter Incense fragrance came up and I ordered that, and then found my way to the Demeter fragrance website and was blown away by all the different scents that they offer! I ordered two more and couldnt be happier. First I want to say that this is an absolutely wonderful way to try different scents - without committing to buying whole bottles and leaving them go wasted. Even with regular perfumes, I often buy a bottle, use it halfway and then a new scent has caught my attention and it sits there and turns to alcohol! I dont think I will ever do that again because this is a much more cost efficient way to go! You have enough to really wear the scent and enjoy it, empty the bottle and then go on to others if you want! The fragrance list is so extensive, I would probably have many favorites!

Here's the ones I've tried so far:

Incense - cologne spray: I love this. Absolutely love it. To me it does not smell like incense, nor does it smell like Vanilla (which I hate) - I read in a couple of reviews that it has vanilla notes and I was hoping it did not. To me you can really smell the amber which I love. It has more staying power than the splash on cologne samples. Don't know why.

Holy Smoke - splash on cologne: I absolutely fell in love with this fragrance. It smells exactly the way it's explained on their site. Some people hate it but then I can't understand why they bought it! It definitely has a strong smoky odor but it lasts only about 15 minutes before you have to reapply it. Maybe the spray cologne will have more staying power? Don't know but will certainly try it :)

Laundromat - splash on cologne: I havent worn this one yet, just sniffed it out of the bottle. It doesnt smell like the Downy - fabric softener-ish scent that I assumed it would have but it is just lovely. Very soft and clean. Like clothes that just came out of a warm dryer.

My only peeve is that the splash on's dont last long. Also, I wish they made these in an oil with a roll on applicator. Demeter - are you reading this? hehe.

I bought this for a (strange) friend who LOVES the smell of Play-Doh. I myself do NOT. I can't argue, however, that this smells like Play-Doh, just as advertised. The label is a bit cheesy, but I guess I need to remind myself yet again that this is Play-Doh cologne...should it actually be elegant? Probably not.

I've tried Holy Water and Paperback.

First, the bad: while paperback was a perfectly lovely scent, it had nothing to do with paperbacks. Smelled, actually, pretty exactly like cookie dough or cake batter. Raw flour, vanila, sugar, eggs- the works. It's lovely but absolutely nothing like the cedar-dust-sweet ink smell of a book. I did give it a bit of time, and rhe sweetness faded a bit, but still not enough to call it bookish.

Second, the really, really good: Holy Water is gorgeous. It took a bit to settle on, but when it did it smelled glorious on my skin and hair. Smelled like the best part of church as a kid, like beswax and incence. I think they did this one because they liked the smell but the Holy Smoke one had too much of a smoke overtone, so this might be HS without the smoke... Whatever, it's really, really nice.
