5.0 out of 5 stars Best non-abrasive cleaner for stainless, enamel, etc.!, March 13, 2010

This review is from: Demeyere Non-Abrasive Cleaner (Kitchen)
I bought a demeyere proline/atlantis 11" frying pan, and burned some sauce in it while trying to deglaze. The pan was covered in burned-on oil and carbon residue -- not really hindering the performance, but no longer beautifully stainless steel.

I have a company-provided housekeeper, but she is more familiar with cleaning $3 non-stick than $200 frying pans, and I was afraid she might damage it, so I hid the pan and ordered some Demeyere cleaner to my APO ("hey man, what did you get in the mail from home?" "special belgian softscrub to clean my pans" "I got beef jerky and wetnaps"). 8 days later, in the mail, I received the best cleaner ever. It took a little bit of force to wipe away the worst oil residue, using a green scotchbrite and a sponge, but overall it was actually not that difficult. The end result is a perfectly new-looking pan with no scratches.

I also used some of the cleaner on copper, and it worked fine, although it might not be ideal for a heavily tarnished pan.

The real test was enameled cast iron (from IKEA) -- I totally burned something on it, so there was a thick layer of black carbon. I used Bar Keeper's Friend first, plus soaking, but in the end, the Demeyere cleaner actually worked with the BKF to remove the last of the carbon.

At $10/bottle, it's a bit pricey compared to $2-3 alternatives, but seems to work much better, and doesn't damage expensive cookware. It is the only cleaner (other than soap and water) I'd use on the Demeyere, and probably my first choice for any "difficult" cookware cleaning problem.

Works well on our Demeyer pots and pans for when you need more than soap and hot water (e.g. cleaning a pot used to make rice ... tiny little rice stains at bottom of pot come right off)
