Book Description

March 2001
From her Hollywood debut at the age of 19 to her latest venture, this biography traces the events and circumstances that have shaped Demi Moore's extraordinary character and propelled her from aspiring model to movie superstar. The book describes Demi's troubled childhood and her crusade to quit high school to find a career in modelling, as well as the trauma of her stepfather's suicide two years later. It reveals the truth behind her relationship with actor Emilio Estevez and why she broke off their engagement, her up-and-down relationship with husband Bruce Willis and her alleged affair with Leornardo DiCaprio. It also: relates how Demi's drug and alcohol addiction almost led to her departure from the set of "St Elmo's Fire"; looks at the history behind her nude appearances both on and off screen; and details behind-the-scenes information from the sets of her movies past and present, including her roles in "Indecent Proposal", "Striptease" and Woody Allen's "Deconstructing Harry".

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Although she hasn't had a blockbuster recently, Demi Moore undeniably ranks high among the Hollywood elite. Now, big-name biographer Nigel Goodall (Winona Ryder; etc.) presents Demi Moore: The Most Powerful Woman in Hollywood. Goodall never interviewed Moore for the book, nor did she authorize it (which may account for the disappointing photos); nevertheless, she will likely be pleased with Goodall's evenhanded, up-front telling of her troubled, unstable childhood; her rise from model and soap actress to the highest-paid female movie star; the birth of her three daughters and her ultimately incompatible marriage to Bruce Willis. Agent, Robert Smith. ( Feb.)

From the Publisher

Intelligent, independent, hard-working, and successful, Demi Moore is one of Hollywood's major players as well as an actress who commands respect. Now, Nigel Goodall traces the events that shaped Moore's personality and propelled her to movie stardom. He looks at her troubled childhood and high school days, her early career as a model and soap opera star, the drug and alcohol addiction that nearly ended her film career, her marriage to Bruce Willis, and the rumors, including an alleged affair with Leonardo Di Caprio. He also reveals behind-the-scenes details from the sets of movies like "Ghost, Indecent Proposal," and "Striptease" and examines her role as the producer of films that include "Austin Powers." Complete with candid photos, movie stills, and pictures from family albums, this intimate portrait is a must-read for fans or anyone intrigued by this glamorous and powerful star. Nigel Goodall has more than a dozen books to his credit, including biographies of Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder.

4.0 out of 5 stars About time there was a Demi bio written, October 11, 2000

This review is from: Demi Moore: The Most Powerful Woman in Hollywood (Paperback)
Even though, as Mr.Goodall says himself, Demi didn't authorise the book and take an active part in the writing of it, he still managed to sum up her career and in some respect capture her personality with, I think, admirable accuracy. You might think that with the track record of Demi in the press, and her not actually partaking in it, it would not be a very objective book in the sense that Demi has always been slandered, or praised beyond mere mortal status. But to me this book is as true to the facts as can be, or seems to be anyway. I don't know Demi, and I don't pretend to either, but the image I have conjured in my mind seems to fit rather nicely with the one Goodall has drawn up. So Either I am way off base, or he has indeed captured the "real" Demi Moore without succumbing to the notion that stars are not just regular people, and need to be described with that little extra... After all, they're stars, right? There are a few things in here that I particularly like, but I won't dwell on them here. Suffice it to say that regardless of whether you want to find out more about Demi, or just look at some glossy pics of her - this book is probably for you.
