From the late 60's to early 70's, central Texas had a remarkable feast of music from so many bands. Bubble Puppy was one. Their popularity was fierce in those days. BP was actually one of the first rock bands to feature two lead players (Rod Prince and Todd Potter). Their big hit was a psychedelic piece called "Hot Smoke and Sassafrass." However, maybe one of the most definitive musician's anthems (and clearly overlooked) was that of "Todd's Tune" which was redone on this record and sounds better than on "A Gathering of Promises", Bubble Puppy's first record. The band came to Los Angeles to record. I'm not certain why they changed their name to Demian. The effort was there but the recording did not render the band's virtuosities and energy I remember as a teen growing up during that exciting period in Austin-San Antonio Texas rock music. This group was one of the bands who helped generate the Austin music scene.

Originally released in 1970, this was the band's sole album. As some of you might know, Demian is basically the four musicians from Bubble Puppy putting out a post-BP release. Notice it's more hard rock that Bubble Puppy was, of course a psych band. I never even knew about this CD reissue until recently. Tunes I liked best were the Uriah Heep-ish "Face The Crowd", the awesome early '70's rocker "Coming", "No More Tenderness" (featuring some killer guitar riffs) and "Are You With Me Baby". Line-up: Rod Prince-guitar & vocals, Todd Potter-guitar, Roy Cox-bass & vocals and David Fore-drums. Should pull in fans of the 13th Floor Elevators, Count Five, Spirit and Blue Magoos.

This LP was one that cut to the chase when it came to solid rock that didn't add much fluff or lost energy. Found it again as a CD and relived it's creative energy that made such an impression on me as a teen.
It is a good thing to bring back the many artistic endeavors that might have been lost.
So many great things seem to come and then get lost in the vast myriad of the marketplace.

THIS IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME BEST ROCK ALBUMS (CD'S) EVER. IT WAS RECORDED LIVE IN A STUDIO AND SHOWS THE TRUE TALENT OF THE MUSICIANS. IF YOU LIKE 2 GUITARS, BASS, AND DRUMS AND NO GIMMICKS TO REWORK THE SOUND, THIS IS THE ONE. WAITED FOR YEARS FOR A SECOND ALBUM THAT NEVER CAME BUT 4 FRIENDS AND I HAVE THE ALBUM AND LITERALLY WORE THE GROOVES OFF. WHEN WE FLASH BACK TO THE EARLY SEVENTIES IN COLLEGE, WE INEVITABLY TALK ABOUT DEMIAN. I JUST GOT THE CD (BEEN WAITING FOR THIS) AND IT WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE PLAYER FOR WEEKS. BUY THIS CD!!!!!

I've always liked the 45rpm "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass" by the "Bubble Puppy". I finally got their first LP "A Gathering of Promises" reprint offered through Sundazed. I picked it up at a record store, here in Columbus, Ohio. After a little researching online, I found out that "Demian" was the Bubble Puppy's next (second) album. The first Bubble Puppy LP (originally released circa 1969) on International Artists label goes for >$100.00. The Demian record was originally released on the "ABC" label in 1970. Original copies go for >$100.00 also. I got my LP copy of Demian (reprint) online at Amazon.com. for $22.48. Demian (Reis)

Enough about history. The Demian record is smokin'; as is the "Bubble Puppy's" "A Gathering of Promises" LP. The first LP was important, not only for being a great LP, but also one of the first albums to feature double harmonizing lead guitars. This might have been before Wishbone Ash came on the scene with their famous double harmonizing guitars. The first Lp is a little more psychedelic sounding than the second one. However, the Demian Lp is more rock oriented and is a fine Lp as well. So if you are into the 60's music with guitar driven rock & roll sound, this is for you.

One of my all-time favorite albums, I still covet the original vinyl copy. I can only hope the CD transfer is of similar (if somewhat digital) quality. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

this is bubble puppy under another name. the album's not as good as bubble puppy , but the version of todd's tune is, i think, considerably better. face the crowd is a zeppelinesque gem, love people is a decent mellow number, and windy city is a good cut with some fine socially conscious lyrics. it is a better produced recording than a gathering of promises, but the songs just aren't as memorable. fans of bubble puppy, "zeppelin- type rock: and steppenwolf (nick st. nicholas produced this album) will probably enjoy this album.

I wore out an eight track recording in the early seventies. Did not hear that Gibson sound again till Def Lepard came out. Thought it was Demian at first. Played a gig with a couple of them in Texas once when they...never mind.

This band was great and chiefly original. Windy city , Only a loner are legendary recordings and since Face the crowd was the most commercial theme , it' s incredible how it still sounds so fresh thirty two years after .

Style and personality were two special seals of this ensemble.

Please acquire this item and get close to one of the most interesting and creative bands of the seventies .
