Product Description

Edition: Collector's Edition

Amazon.com Product Description

For gamers who love Real-Time Strategy (RTS) and Action Role-Playing Games (RPGs), Demigod Collector's Edition offers a unique hybrid that brings new fun for fans of both genres. In order to become a god, you'll have to master two types of game play, building up a hero for single battles and controlling armies for an entire war. The Collector's Edition brings extras for the true fan.

Level up your character and gain new skills and weapons. View larger.

Strategically command an army of allies to victory! View larger.
Collector's Edition Includes Exclusive Extras
Fans of Demigod will want to get their hands on the exclusive extras included in the Collector's Edition. This bonus material includes a CD with the soundtrack, a beautiful Demigod poster, and a collectible pewter figurine.

The Best of Two Genres: Real-Time Strategy and Action RPG
Demigod allows you to control two types of demigods -- generals and assassins. When playing as an assassin, you'll have control of a warrior who gains experience and money as he kills enemies. You'll have the ability to upgrade weapons and items, and to learn spells, just like in an action RPG.

When playing as a general, you'll control allied forces, commanding them to attack where you want, just like in an RTS. Allied creeps and minions continually enter through reinforcement portals, and as the general you direct them into battle.

Zoom in and out to see individual fights or the whole war. View larger.
The goal is the same whether you are playing as assassin or general: capture the enemy's control points. Each different general and assassin has his own unique skills and powers, and you'll need to learn how to use each one effectively against another.

Fantastic Graphics and Beautiful Art Style
Demigod features a beautiful art style that has a sense of whimsy. The game takes place on different maps, each featuring unique elements. Beautiful, exotic locations include a lava mine, waterfall temple, and more.

The monsters and creatures of the game are rendered in great detail, and observing a mass of them engage in battle is a thrilling spectacle. Angels, demons, and creatures both gigantic and tiny all inhabit the world at the same time, giving it a diverse and varied look. By zooming in and out of the map, you can see just how massive everything is. From a birds-eye view, you'll barely be able to see the movements of the small creatures, yet zoom in and you'll be a part of an epic battle. Depending on whether you're playing as a general or assassin, you'll make different use of the zoom levels.

Different game play Modes Provide Replay Value
Demigod has different game play modes including single-player, skirmish, and five-on-five multiplayer. Single player mode provides a compelling story line concerning the tournament to become the newest God.

Multiplayer mode provides many options: you can jump right into a game for instant gratification, or you can join in tournaments that allow you to carefully build up a character and upgrade him to your liking. Multiplayer games have different settings for players to tweak, such as the amount of gold income and achievement items that can be reached.

5.0 out of 5 stars Demigod - Under Rated - Excellent Game - Bug Fixes are out and working great!!! Worth Buying!, June 14, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Demigod Collector's Edition (DVD-ROM)
Demigod is a very underrated game because its not the typical first person shooter that the majority of game reviewers play. This is in my opinion, a Real Time Strategy game where instead of bases to upgrade and troops to deploy, you are upgrading your characters like a Role Playing Game would do. Similar to a Guild Wars or World of Warcraft skillset. This makes it very interesting to play. Tons of different strategies to learn. I've played 100 games already and still have not mastered the many different ways to play with different groups of characters. But here is a break down.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

GRAPHICS:
PROS: Amazing Quality!!! This blows the graphics away from any other game I've played to date of this kind. They did a great job. The maps are interesting ideas with great detailed graphics, the game effects with hammer slams, firestorms, minions, bat swarms, giant axes, beast ooze, mine explosions, light towers, rook's towers, Regulus sniper shots, etc. It's just robust!!

CONS: You need a good computer to play games that are 5v5 online especially on large maps. There is a SIM rating in the game that tells you what players have high or low sim scores. Sim scores tell you if their computer is fast or slow and causing the game to lag. If you're below a 4 sim score, you're getting to the point of slowing people down a little although the game adjust and regulates the speed. Once you get to a 1 or 0, the game becomes unplayable for the most part. A 25 second death turns into 33 second and the game will drag out. A 9800 GT card is under $100 now and will play the game just fine and give you an adequate SIM score to enjoy it. I for one have a 9800 GX2 and I have everything maxed out without any problems. Memory wise, you really only need about 1GB of free memory so that's good. Their recommended computer setup is pretty accurate.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOUND:
There are no Cons to the sound! The audibles the Demigod's say can be funny at times and add to the experience. Music is AWESOME! Absolutely perfect for the game!! Sound effects for each character are precise and right in tune with how they should be. Very detailed! It's such a good mix of everything that you just feel at peace and into a great state of mind while playing that it's super fun.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

GAMEPLAY:
As a new player, stick to skirmish's till you get some skills down and then move to Multiplayer or you'll get your but kicked and players will get mad at you for causing them to lose. In a 3v3 game, 3 good players vs 2 good and 1 new guy, usually means the 3 good players kick your butt right away and will just kill the new guy over and over and over again, giving them tons of extra cash and well, sealing your teams fate. This is typically where RAGE quitters come in. People who know right at that the start that they are going to lose because one player or all their players are not up to their level of understanding of the game and tactics. So they will typically quit, move on to a new game and leave the AI to takeover their player.

So more on the actual gameplay though. Maps are setup as 2D/3D maps. Meaning the graphics are in a 3D design but you only move 2 Dimensional on the map. It's like a board game. You can turn the map all directions but there aren't like hills and mountains you go up and down and look down or up to other players. This is fine though as the in game Scrolling works awesome and needs this setup to be successful. You can use your scroll mouse button to zoom out and then you point the mouse to where you'd like to zoom in to and use the scroll wheel to move in again and it auto adjusts. There is no need to move the mouse all the way to the right or left or top or bottom of your display to scroll. You can use their SmartZoom technology and it works well.

You might also choose to use the keyboard buttons for scrolling as I do, as I also use the 1,2,3,4 buttons to activate my skills or spells as some call them. Makes it easier than clicking the mouse and its faster where in some cases, a half second is the difference between you being frozen and dying or the other playing being frozen and dying. Gameplay can get intense at time and require some thinking and strategy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

SCENARIO GAMEPLAY STRATEGY EXAMPLE:
An example is this: Enemy Demigod is a beefed up Rook with lots of health. Your team has a Rook, Beast and Oak. Your teams Unclen Beast (UB) will walk up to the enemy Rook and spit his ooze that does lots of damage but over 10 second time frame. Soon as he spits, if the OAK sees him getting ready to pull a tower or do a hammer slam or something, he can stun him which stops his motion but causes the enemy Rook to have to wait for that option again. Enemy rook is now also 10-16% slower on moving and takes the same in additional damage. The Beast is now attacking him with melee, oak is melee dmg as well, all while the enemy Rook is taking ooze spit damage. So you can see he's taking serious dmg already. Plus he lost his hammer slam or tower skill for 10 secs. Too late now, enemy rook is about to be dead without his teammates help and with this combo, it takes about 7-8 secs, if that!

TEAM ATTACK COMBO:
Unclean Beast does his Spit on the Rook. As the rook on your team sees this, he is ready to hammer slam the enemy rook. Team's UB does a Claw Grasp on enemy rook, stealing health and freezing the enemy Rook for 2 seconds, which is how long it takes to do a devastating 'Hammer Slam' by your teammate Rook. You now just did about 2500-3000 dmg in about 2 secs, or took away 1/2 to 3/4 of the ROOK's health. The Oak can then do a spell that Freezes him for a second, and causes him to take 400 dmg, plus reduces his speed an additional 15%. The enemy rook is near dead now and is so slow he can't get away even if he tries. Your melee attacks combined are likely doing around 600+ dmg per second. Before the enemy rook gets a chance to even turn around or try to cast a skill/spell, your Team Rook toss a boulder at him, stunning him again for 2 secs and doing about 300 damage. While he's been taking damage from the initial UB ooze spit and all your team skills are almost back to being able to use again, and he hasn't moved but maybe 2 steps, the enemy Rook is likely dead now. This is might sound elaborate but it's not. You're only responsible for literally clicking 2 times regardless of who you are.

I'm telling you, this is a tactic we use in the games we choose these characters with my friends and I know the player on the other side is saying, "HELP HELP HELP!!! I'm gonna die". It's great and exciting! This is because with DG characters that can freeze you, you've just made a decision to engage whether you like it or not. So be careful how far out you go or you might be coming back as a corpse. In cases like this, you need a Torch Bearer (TB), Healer, Queen to protect you. TB can cast an Ice Storm that freezes all the enemy DG's for 1 sec. and well, it's good if your Rook has some speed to get away, like the +25% Boost store item. Cause anything less, and he's done and the other team rakes in about 2000 gold, which means they just went to upgrade their gear to do it all again, only with more damage and faster death to the enemy DG. The funny part about all of it, is this is can cause a scenario where you hear, "Double Smited!" and then maybe "GODLIKE!". Because if only one of your team mates comes to the rescue against 3 DG's and you just die. Guess what, that exact same fate and combo is about to happen again because all those skills are recharged and ready to go and well, "Execute Plan Alpha!" and in 8 more seconds you just might here, "SMITED!". If your teammate isn't smart enough to run away and regroup to make a better stance.

I highly recommend not trying to take on 3 DG's if you're solo, and even 2 is pushing it greatly. You will likely die and the whoever kills most, typically becomes a monster in the game rather quickly. Unless you're sitting with a L20 character with beefed up armor upgrades and they are all L12, I wouldn't recommend it. If you find you're in a game and your team response is slow, you might invest in an item that makes you invincible for 5 seconds. But it also makes you immobile. It's more to give your players a chance to get to you, so you don't die and well it also makes the enemy team waste their most damaging skills on you, unless they are smart and noticed you used the item to save yourself.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

THE INTERFACE: Very similar to most Role Playing Games, I'd compare it more to Guild Wars as it does not have 20 options like WoW does, it has about 10 and looks very similar to the setup of Guild Wars. You're allowed 4 Skills, 3 Items and one Favor Item if its allowed in the game. Then you can click your little DG picture in the middle to zoom immediately to your character or there are 2 little buttons to click for Skill Tree and your Character Stats. Just as with other games, you move the mouse over the DG you want to attack or the location you want to move and click. Very straight forward. The RTS comes in play with how to work together with your teammates and use your skills together.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

COMMUNICATION: This is something I'm not happy with in the game as it really needs in game voice chat, but this is not an option yet. For now, I recommend you try to get everyone to fire up a Steam Voice Chat,... Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant yet flawed, June 8, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Demigod Collector's Edition (DVD-ROM)
I got this game because I'm a huge fan of DotA, a modification for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. They share similar concepts in many ways, but are also different in many ways.

This game is, first of all, slower-paced than DotA. Veterans of that game may find this unappealing, and that's understandable. There is a limited number of demigods to choose from, and some people are having framerate issues involving the sound in the game.

Despite all this, the game manages to be incredibly fun. It's a blast to play online and the publisher, Stardock, is continually working to improve the game.

Collector's edition extras:

The poster is an extremely large and glossy piece of art featuring the rook taking on an army of "creeps", or the small units in the game.

The figurine is made of durable, heavy pewter but is rather small. The soundtrack is fantastic.

Overall, despite the flaws, this game is recommendable.

A very fun game that didn't receive the attention it deserved. If you like DOTA then you will like this game, it is based on the same gameplay but with much better graphics.
