Demo: The Story of a Junkyard Dog is an exuberant children's picturebook about a junkyard dog who tries to save his town from the excesses of its own rampant consumption. Townspeople shop and consume recklessly, thoughtlessly, and the waste they discard turns into towering stacks of garbage. Demo must save the town from his master's malevolent plans, and educate the people to change their haphazard ways! The character of the faithful dog is based on author Jon Bozak's own four-legged friend, in this thoughtful picturebook that challenges young readers to think about their environment and the importance of minimizing human impact upon it. Highly recommended.

This book is very cool and will appeal to many kids of all ages - and I also enjoyed it. However, I just wanted to say that I got this book for my 5 year old and it was able to hold her attention and did not scare her at all. It is written for older kids, so she asked about a few words, but overall she was into it. She was also able to get the positive 'everyone deserves a second chance' message. She liked the bright colors and style of the book asked about it again later. Older kids will like it as well, especially the artwork.

This is a lovely book that reminds the reader that we are more than our appearance. Demo may appear big tough and scary but all he desires is for someone to show him the same love and kindness he shows to others. The illustrations are great. The story thoughtful. My nephews love this one, and it even brought tears to my eyes.

Everyone should read this book and then go hug their dog. And if you don't have a dog to hug, there is one waiting for you at the shelter as we speak.

This beautifully illustrated book tells a tale of an unlikely hero, a victim of prejudice and abuse, who loves people anyway. Demo teaches the very people who cast him out about perseverance and unconditional forgiveness.

Fun, colorful illustration coupled with very pertinent social messages about prejudice, consumerism and the importance of recycling - a winning combination. I applaud the author's for a wonderful book for children and adults.

I wanted this book because of the reviews I had read and the story behind the real "Demo". This book is great and really has a wonderful moral lesson to it. Basically, the statement,"Don't judge a book by it's cover" should also apply to certain dogs. Most people are scared to death of certain dogs because they have a stigma behind them. This book shows that even though you may have the first impression that a dog or person is scary but if you give them a chance, you may come to find out that they have a huge heart that is full of love. Great story, great moral, great illustration. If you have kids of your own, nieces, nephews, grandkids, or even dogs... this book is for you.

the illustrations are vivid and exciting. demo is a book that is great for children but also makes a great gift for the adults you know who have added a 'second chance' dog to their lives. the story can be enjoyed for itself but can also promote discussion of topics like prejudice, recycling and environmental issues with young readers.

For the kids, this is a great book with engaging writing and brilliantly detailed illustrations. For the kids AND the adults, it's a beautiful story about getting past stereotypes & preconceived notions, about not judging based on appearance, and of course -- Demo reminds us that there are a lot of wonderful dogs out there in need of a home.

This is such a wonderful story about overcoming judgments and changing peoples' minds! Demo is an awesome character and a true representative of most bully breeds. The art was fantastic too!
