About the Author

WILLIAM CROTTY, editor of the Northeastern Series on Democratization and Political Development, is Thomas P. O'Neill Chair in Public Life and Director of the Center for the Study of Democracy at Northeastern University. He is the author or coauthor of numerous books, including The State of Democracy in America and The Politics of Political Assassinations, and the editor of The Politics of Terror: The U.S. Response to 9/11, also published by Northeastern University Press. He lives in the Boston area.
