Product Description

Product Description

With 16 cars on a track at one time, one's bound to bend a couple fenders. In Demolition Racer--No Exit, that's expected, along with a foot-to-the-floor racing ambition. You will race in various themed leagues, which take you onto urban and rural tracks for both day and night racing. Collect power-ups for that little extra edge in your racing--sometimes at the expense of other drivers. The Power Drain, for example, fortifies your car with the strength points it steals from any opponent you hit. There are 16 tracks included, but the game's existential title refers to the No Exit Bowl where--you guessed it--you'll compete gladiator style, and only one car leaves under its own power.

This game offers all the popular gameplay found in versions for other platforms, and includes a number of Dreamcast-only bonuses such as all-new cars, new tracks and power-ups, and upgraded artificial intelligence--not to mention enhanced graphics and animation. Realistic collision effects include smoke, breakaway hoods, and wobbling tires. The game also features a split-screen two-player mode and aggressive mood music from the likes of Fear Factory, Junkie XL, and Tommy Tallarico.

Don your helmet and strap on the shoulder harness--Demolition Racer: No Exit is taking you for a ride, and it's not going to be a smooth one. As a matter of fact, with 16 cars on the track and nobody worried about paint jobs, it's likely to be downright bumpy.

Demolition Racer: No Exit will delight gamers who never can keep their car on the road, as it rewards hazardous driving and openly encourages slamming other motorists into walls or--better yet--land mines.

The game offers two distinctly different leagues. In the demolition leagues, ranking is determined by the damage points that you inflict on your fellow drivers, multiplied by a value that's assigned to the place in which you finish the race. The No Exit mode puts drivers in an arena, à la gladiator, with the winner being the last moving car. Here, the game really shines, as cars go flying hood-over-heels and perform maneuvers that would make crash-test dummies wince.

Demolition Racer: No Exit shows vehicle damage in real time. See your hood crinkle, then pop up and flap like a wounded duck, before it flies over the roof. While the action is fast and furious, however, the graphics don't reflect the abilities of the Dreamcast fully, with vehicles that appear somewhat boxy, and physics that seem unrealistic when compared to other top-notch racing games. In addition, the vehicles are generic, with no brand names.

Once you've turned off the predictable hard-rock soundtrack, the sound effects in Demolition Racer: No Exit are excellent, from the screams of tortured metal to the screech of a fender that's kissing a wall. --Benjamin Reese

  • Real-time damage shown on vehicles
  • Very realistic sound effects
  • Unlockable minigames
  • Graphics could be better
  • Generic, unlicensed vehicles

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, a PLAYABLE racing game that's actually fun! November 12, 2000
I used to play demolition racer on a friends Playstation and thought it was great especially in two player mode. So I'm really glad they've put it onto the Dreamcast. The graphics are vastly improved and there is NO slowdown even in two player mode! I'm not much of a racing 'simulator' fan, so I like that with Demolition Racer you can get up to full speed smash into someone and recover really quickly so you're always in the thick of the action. One of the new aditions is 'pickups', which really adds tactics to the gameplay. There's been loads of times where I've almost been dead, preying that I can find an armor or shield pickup before someone smashes into me. There's also loads of game modes, cars, and sub-games to unlock so it should be quite a while before it's completed. If you want a different kind of racer, buy this game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Addictive November 13, 2000

We tend to like the driving games best, and this one is at the top! Terrific graphics, exceptional soundtrack and really fun game play. Still have to try it with the racing wheel, though. Personally, we like it even better than Crazy Taxi. You can satisy your road rage impulses in both, but this one gives you the satisfaction of destroying others on the road - you'll see the smoke and fire coming out of your competitors, and nothing satisfies like a good t-bone or even landing right on top for an instant kill! (Yes, we are adults) A must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mission: Demolition June 4, 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Demolition Racer rocked my socks. I bought it originally thinking it was from the creators of the Destruction Derby games, (A good series in its own right), but it is different. (Unlike the Demolition Derby titles, you only score crashes made with the front of your car.) Demolition Racer is more of an independent title with its own flavor and excitement.

There are MANY play modes to choose from, including 2 player modes. From standard arena-style destruction derbies to flat out racing. The main mode will score you on your final racing position and crash score. There is a fair bit of strategy to this mode, as you must crash often, place high, and manage to survive to the end. There are several fun and strange mini-games to unlock as well.

The unique game play is the best part of Demolition Racer, but there are some other big highlights. This game has polished graphics, a variety of customization options, plenty of levels, and a decent soundtrack comprised of heavy metal and electronica.

My only critiques would be on the soundtrack and the physics engine. Some of the music isn't on the par with the rest of the collection, and the music is always set on random for every race. So you might have to race with something annoying instead of an awesome Fear Factory remix. The physics...can unpredictably send your car to its doom too early.

Thought so, too. This game is the ultimate stress reliever. If you're under a lot of pressure, is there anything more gratifying than destroying hordes of cars? Not unless they create a game where you can strap dolls to firecrackers.
The graphics are great, but not incredible. It's no Gran Turismo 3, but it's still pretty, with a good framerate to boot.
The soundtrack is ho-hum. At least it keeps the action going.
You'll keep wanting to come back and play it. Thank you, I'm done. Buy and destroy, friend. Buy and destroy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of fun but... March 26, 2010

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I got this game because of the reviews it got, its a Dreamcast game and its a smashemup. Like the product review says, the cars aren't that notable but are fun to drive. IDK why they didn't make the cars more detailed, but then again, we're gonna crash them up... The real con for me is that this is only a 2-player game... WHY??? If "Forsaken" and "Slave Zero" can be 4 player, why not this?

Over all this is still a fun game but it does not get my "I Highly Recommended" rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Demolition Racer scores November 21, 2000
By A Customer
Demolition Racer No exit is in one way a racing game and in one way a demolition game. But unfortunately the racing part kind of takes away the demolition part a little. Because it is hard to concetrate on both aspects. If you are in first (which is the point) you wont be able to blow up cars. Because they are behind you. However the graphics are good and so is the control. So overall DRNE is a good game and will appeal to the casual gamer.

Demolition Racer: No Exit is probably my favorite racing game ever on the Sega Dreamcast, " Ever! " What could be more fun than racing great muscle cars whilst destroying the other racer's cars, I tell you nothing is. This game simply put, is fun, fun, fun! DRNE is a one to four player game that is a point based racer that gives points for the most destruction you cause, but you still need to come in at 3rd place or better to continue. It's great fun to be rewarded for causing mayhem and destruction. There are five game-modes for you to race in. There is: Demolition, The Chase, Last Man Standing, Chicken, ( my favorite ) and Suicide. There is also five racing leagues, there is: Rookie League, Semi-Pro League, Pro League, Endurance League, and Arena League. There are also lots of cool mini-games to play when you beat certain levels. My son and I loved playing the "car soccer" game. Your on a soccer field and you use your car to push a GIANT beach ball through your opponents goal, it's way fun! There is also a slue of cool cars to race, and as in most racing games there are differences in each car. I.E. acceleration, speed, agility, handling, and body strength. The cars are based after real models, but the names were changed. you have: The Marauder ( a 70s muscle car ), ( my favorite ) The Bobcat ( a 90s hatchback ), The Cruiser ( 50s luxury car ), Predator ( a fast 80s sports car ), Renegade ( an 80s Bentley ) The Mantis ( a fast fiat ), The Widowmaker ( a hearse ) and Vandal ( a Ford van ). DRNE has tons of power ups ( and power downs ), TNT crates, shields, and all kinds of fun stuff to help you survive this mayhem-fest. Read more ›
