Great for Children and Preteens Though!, January 27, 2005
This review is from: The Demon Dentist (Mr. Midnight, #8) (Paperback)
The Mr Midnight Series is one of the few books out there which invites readers to send in their stories to which the author will selected from and continue from there. It’s a nice idea though, especially when you consider that some people out there have really wonderful imaginations.
There are normally about 2 stories in each book, and James Lee’s simple and straightforward style of writing makes the stories very easy to understand, which of course, is perfect for younger children and pre-teens. The stories are also short too, which suit the short attention span of children just fine. The 2 stories in this volume is not bad, although I prefer the one about the zoo as it's creepier. :)
What irks me though, is the frequent use of CAPITALIZED letters to emphasis shouting, fear or points of impact. I don’t deny the fact that children might find this captivating, but to the adult reader, it might get kind of annoying after a while. However, if you’re looking for a quick read or for a book to read to your child at night, try this! While I give this three stars based on the opinion of the average adult reader, it deserves, as a book for children, a four and a half. :)
