With so many authors doing ripoffs of more well known authors and other writers just devolving to sex and shock, I love getting new Otherworld books. Yasmine's reliable. She tells a good story with a plot that needs resolution, antagonists and protagonists that kick butt and her world is well thought out even though she's juggling 3 very different main characters in this series and does each sister's voice in first person.
My favorite sister is Camille because I identify most with her, but after this second arc in her Otherworld series, I'm really starting to love Menolly a lot more too, and this book was just perfect. Menolly finds the diary of a previous fae bartender which makes her wonder what happened to her, she finds out she disappeared, at the same time, there is a new demonic threat that's attacking the fae and attacks her sister. With the help of her sisters and a lot of great male characters, they find out what's going on and kick butt. So, this description sounds like it could be another popular series? No. The men are not arm and eye candy, they are strong in their own right, and Menolly is not sleeping her way through them. The whole series handles relationships in a matter of fact way instead of trying to titillate and shock you with them. It's part of what I love about it so much, it's more mature then that. The focus is on the story and how the relationships affect the characters and the story. Start with the beginning and read through to the end. This series clued me into her books and she's a solid mystery writer. Clues and information to find things out instead of stumbling into answers accidentally and her skill at weaving the stories make them very enjoyable.

Narrated by Menolly, "Demon Mistress" is the 6th entry into the Sisters of the Moon/Otherworld series. This series seems to really be hitting its stride, & I glad that I have stuck with it from the start. I enjoy Menolly's no nonsense point of view, & this entry made me like Menolly even more. I was so very glad to see a dictionary in the back of the book to aid with remembering the world that the author has built.
There are 2 plots that weave together nicely, one involving a missing Fae & vampire & the other a secret society of young men who have been summoning demons. Of course, the sisters work nonstop to make right the havoc that the society has caused, & Iris, Maggie, & the sister's lovers & friends are all in the mix. I really have grown to love this motley crew, & I hope there are many more books to come in this series.

super urban romantic fantasy,
This review is from: Demon Mistress (Otherworld, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
In Seattle, Menolly D'Atigo still adjusts to being a vampire while working with her sisters Camille the witch (see DRAGON WYTCH) and Delilah the shapeshifting Death Maiden (see NIGHT HUNTER) for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. However, while cleaning the bar where she works, she finds fascinating items left behind by the elf bartender who returned to Otherworld. A diary the elf kept insists he felt he was stalked and implies he may have been killed instead of going home.
However, while Menolly considers what to do, a new radically different demonic assault begins to absorb the life force out of the fae. There appears no counterattack to prevent this threat from succeeding and evidence mounts that a quisling human group is abetting the demon Lord Shadow Wing. The latest Otherworld urban romantic fantasy is a super entry as Menolly leads the charge this time. Once again there is a ton of support players allies and villains that make the well written numerous subplots even more complex. Fans will enjoy the latest D'Atigo sister's take on their adventures as this time the trio tries solve the mystery of the bartending elf while also attempting to keep two worlds safe from the demon horde. I feel Menolly was shortchanged a little in this one. Her first book was so intense and riveting that this one seems like a picnic.
I would have liked more intrigue and mystery in this one. I think Dante's Hellions could have been a much stronger plot part and enemy. I expect there will be at least 3 more books before this series ends and I hope Yasmin returns to the much tighter and sharper writing of the first 5. Still, I like Menolly and she's become a more intriguing character than when we met her in the first 2 books.

Sometimes I wonder if I read the same book,
This review is from: Demon Mistress (Otherworld, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read two other books in the series, wasn't that thrilled with them but I decided to give it another try. By now you already know the basic plots, as in plural because the author has so many going on I don't know how she can keep them all straight. I lost interest about 1/3 of the way through, so I won't try to sort them out for you but they really don't matter. When I start falling asleep reading an Urban Fantasy starring a supposedly KickAss Vampire Chick, I'm thinking the book isn't for me.
Menolly has inherited an inn and found a mysterious diary which leads them to learn of the mysterious disspearance of a previous occupant of the room. So....despite the fact that they have a 2000 year old squid demon attacking Fae in the local fairy disco, and attacking their sister Delilah psycically on the astral plane and killing her slowly, they sill squeeze in the time to try to solve this mysterious strangers mysterious dissapearance. That is just two of the plot lines. Trust me, there are about five others and none of them are very engaging or exciting, more just props so the author can work out her multi-lover fantasy's. Galennorn has created her own forumla, I'll give her that. A crisis comes up you don't care about, the women grab which ever of their harem of nongender specific lovers or polyamorous husbands to help them solve the problem, afterwhich they all gather at the house and discuss the near misses and how to solve the problems. One of the three sister's takes charge, tells all the men what they should do,all these supposed alpha males agree to what ever they are told to do, everyone rushes out to it, then they go somewhere solve a little part of one of the mysteries squeezing in the sleuthing between attackes, another unrelated problem arises, they all rush out and kick ass and then go back to the house, sit around the table and drink tea, and then rush out to handle another crisis. Sharing supposedly cute sexual barbs with eachother's pantheon of lovers rushing to and from the crisises is pretty much the sum of the sexual tension. For women with such diverse love lifes, there isn't a lot of sex going on. Camille has THREE husbands, one of whom is a supposedly insanely jealous dragon who beats up men who make passes at his wife but doesn't seem to have a problem with her being married to two other men at the same time. Menolly has a girlfriend who is supposed to be such an important loving part of her life, who shows up for some five second lesbian nookie in the very beginning of the book and then explains she can't really see Menolly much for awhile due to politics because she is so busy, but how about if they agree to be monogamous as far as not sleeping with other women. Evidently having sex with guys isnt' cheating. The Main Character doesn't seem hurt sad or dissapointed that her lover is basically cutting her out of her life for awhile due to politics despite the fact that when a man friend showed up an hour before and did this exact thing she almost took out his throat. Nerisse the girlfriend moves convienantly aside so in the midst of the latest manufactured crisis Menolly will have room to guilt free start feeling incredibly attracted to one of the demons who has been helping them out. A man who has signed some convenant that forces him (although he is choosing this) to be subjucated by the women. I'm not making this up, the author did. It is bordering on LKH without the arduer, although the sex is about as exciting. There isn't a lot of time to really build the supposed sexual tension with the demons (and yes there are two) At one point, she and one of her potential new lovers almost have sex on her brother-in-law the dragon's back while he flys them to yet another dangerous situation. While I appreciated the time management skills The MC and her LI displayed, I threw up a little in my mouth. Galenorn has spread the love interests and the plots so far and wide, you reach the point of not ever emotionally connecting or investing in ANY of the relationships, be they between the three sisters, Camille the plump bossy velvet covered witch with the three husbands, Menolly the bisexual kick ass albino vampire, or Delilah who I can't even figure out what her deal is except she turns into....a kitten. Needless to say, she doesn't seem to be a lot of help, maybe that is why the other two sisters are always having to boss everybody around.

Demon Mistress,
This review is from: Demon Mistress (Otherworld, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
Menolly D'Aritgo is cleaning out some of the upper rooms in her bar, Wayfarer, with the help of Iris, when she discovers items that turn out to belong to a bartender who disappeared under strange circumstances. That is just the beginning of her night, and then Menolly and her sisters find a ghoul in on their property that happens to belong to a new neighbor - a necromancer.
Menolly and her sisters decide to investigate the disappearance of the bartender, while at the same time, Camille's husbands and their other helpers are trying to figure out just what type of demon is attacking the fae and killing them - before it gets to Delilah again. Hoping this is going to be a simple demon invasion, Menolly and the others discover that the demons, the disappearances and even, in a weird way, Shadow Wing are all combined with a secret society of frat boys. Menolly, Camille, and Delilah need to figure out the common denominator and take care of it in time to carry out their social commitments. After all, girls to just want to have fun. Menolly shows a more light hearted side in Demon Mistress while trying to find out what is attacking fae suddenly and who let the ghouls out. (I know, but I had to). Menolly is finally free to be just herself for the first time since she was changed. In between fighting with new demons, psycho frat boys and keeping Delilah safe, Menolly is finding her sensual side again. Yes, vampires can be sensual and caring. I really loved seeing this new and lighter side of Menolly and hope to see more as the series goes on. Like the other books in the Otherworld series, Demon Mistress continues the side stories while focusing on one sister - in this case it was Menolly. The laughter, magic and always the love between the sisters and their partners makes Demon Mistress is another winner that will make you hold your breathe in places and want to hug various characters in others. If you have not read the Otherworld series in order, I would suggest doing so. The characters and the world is a complex mix that is added onto with each book. You won't be sorry to begin this series if you like a bit of danger and magic in your stories. Jo Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

I suggest you read the previous five books in order before taking this book on (Witchling, Changeling, Darkling, Dragon Wytch and Night Huntress). Menolly is my favorite out of the sisters. She is tough, cynical and the least bratty. If you are a fan of the Otherworld series you won't be disappointed with this book. Menolly and the gang investigate the kidnapping of an elf women and a vampiress. Simultaneously, Chase has his hands full with unsupervised ghouls. A fraternity house full of amateur necromancers is unleashing chaos on the Fae and Elvin community. There is plenty of action and intrigue to make this one of the best book of the Otherworld series. However, I must say, I hate the sex scenes this author writes in for the sisters. They seem so non-eventful, unnecessary, boring, and passionless. I do however, recommend this book and the entire series. I also look forward to the next book Bone Magic due out 1/15/2010.
I also recommend: Witch Blood (Elemental Witches, Book 2) Salt and Silver Storm Born (Dark Swan, Book 1) ReVamped (Void City, Book 2) Magic in the Blood (Allie Beckstrom)

~Demon Mistress~
Sisters of the Moon Series ~Book 6~ We're the D'Artigo sisters: Half-human, half-Faerie, we're savvy-and sexy-operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But our mixed-blood heritage short-circuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Camille is a wicked-good witch whose magic is as unpredictable as the weather. My sister Delilah transforms into a tabby cat at the worst possible times. And me? I'm Menolly, acrobat-extraordinaire-turned-vampire. And if the nerds from hell don't get their act together, I'm going to turn their toga party into a bloodbath...Life's getting stranger by the minute. First, Iris and I unearth a diary from one of the bartenders at the Wayfarer who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. And when I discover a ghoul in the woods near our home, we know there has to be a necromancer nearby-another sign that something's wrong. But the blood really hits the fang when we discover a secret society bent on winning Shadow Wing's favor. Now it's up to us to stop the chaos they've unleashed on the city and to prevent the demon they summoned from devouring Delilah's soul. Another Great installment Love this Series!!

I purchased this book and the other 2 that completed the series this last January for my boyfriend who collects such books and he was totally thrilled to add them to the bookshelves after having read them all. I know that when I look again on this site to find later series books that I will purchase them from Amazon.
