5.0 out of 5 stars Demon Night Synopsis, August 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Demon Night (Red Sonja, No. 2) (Paperback)
Red Sonja: Demon Night

"She lived in a savage world in an uncivilized age - a world ruled by men and governed by the sword. They called her Red Sonja - for her flame red hair and the smoldering fire of her pride. Falsely charged with the murder of a commander to whom she had sworn allegiance, Red Sonja must flee or be killed without a chance to clear her name. Deep in the desert she encounters the city of Elkad, and, exhausted, seeks shelter there. She enters the city against her better judgment, for hanging before the gates are the shriveling bodies of six young women, clearly the victims of some blood-thirsty ritual....." A great book - fantastic action and interesting characters - One of the most fascinating aspects is the obsession of Red Sonja's pursuers....It's unfortunate that these books are out of print, they certainly beat some of today's fantasy offerings.....

3.0 out of 5 stars Super Reader, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Demon Night (Red Sonja, No. 2) (Paperback)
Not as good as the first one. In the opening Sonja runs afoul of an ammbitious mercenary band's second in command. He bumps off the boss, and blames her. She, of course, bails, and a chase ensues.

Amazingly enough, they stumble across a little known city. It has an aging queen, a doddering wizard, some monks, and temple virgins. Oh, and a bunch of earth demons that need sacrificies. Sonja sees 6 of them outside the gate (the remains of your several nubile girls, of course), while looking for entry, shelter and food.

Conflict ensues between the slack city guard, the mercenary band, etc. The wild card is a Shemite dog-wizard in the mercenary band, a local wizard, who has some control over the demons to some degree. Dog he is not, more of the 'hellfire and earthquakes variety', which he demonstrates at one point, when saving Sonja and a temple ex-virgin.

Backstabbing military leader does not fare well, Shemite becomes wizard's apprentice, temple ex-wizard steals wizard's wand, blasts guys in city. Most of everybody dies, except a red headed Hyrkanian, a couple of wizards, a temple ex-virgin and her foreigner city dwelling monkish scholar boyfriend.
