This review is from: The Demon of Scattery (Paperback)
Anderson has created a tale around the legend of a monster and a saint on the isle of Scattery, according to his appendix, which gives some detail of the situation.
A viking raider lands on the island, and a local woman is tasked with looking after one of his severely injured men. The woman and the viking leader have growing feelings for each other, even though she is aiming to be a bride of god. It ends with a curse and a sea monster.

Almost anything this author has ritten is worth it. This one is no exception. In addition to being a good read, it accurately uses Irish legend. I lost my first copy & ordered another one as a replacement.
