From the Bloody Pen of Koike Kazuo, Creator of "Lone Wolf & Cub" and "Lady Snowblood"!

If they're lucky, they die quickly!

Deep in the mountains of feudal Japan, a group of children endure cruel and unorthodox training in order to become the Shogunate's most secret and deadly weapons — the Demon Spies!

Their true identities are hidden — even from each other. Behind their demon masks, they are educated in the deadly arts of infiltration, espionage, assassination — and seduction! If they survive to become strong enough to kill their teachers, they will become — the Demon Spies!

Sent on a suicide mission to uncover a deadly conspiracy, five inexperienced Demon Spies must infiltrate a powerful fief, discover the location of its secret arsenal, and destroy it. 3.0 out of 5 stars A fatalistic journey.. into demonhood.., September 3, 2011

This review is from: Demon Spies (DVD)
I saw this film on the previews for another samurai movie LWC series.. and decided to give it a try. I will rate the story/characters/action/

Story: Not a bad premise, but interesting enough to keep you involved. Kind of psychotic with their interest in becoming demons.. The plot has alot of betrayal and espionage.. of course they are ninjas. A group of bastard children who are raised into the ways of ninjitsu hell bent on the way of the demon. Death is a common sight to these children. The story goes on as they set out to extinguish evil from the world through their code of death. Immediately they are drawn into a dangerous mission into destroying an armory cache of western weapons. The story has twists and turns with the betrayal of deaths of the ninja demon team. In the end the story held up and worth a watching. I think they could've used more of the seduction ninja techniques in the story and could have added some humorous situations.. the movie was serious.. but kind of campy. Humor would have made the story a little more interesting. Like in any of these movies of this period.. I think this film tried to bite off more than it could chew.. nonetheless..

Characters: An interesting group of actors and the character development was great. For the scope of the movie alot of the demon spies and their lifestyle serve as a basis for the movie. Each of the characters are driven by their own mysterious ambitions, yet all will follow the code of the demon. There are 5 demon spies. 2 of the demon spies actually fall in love with eachother although one doesn't admit to it. More could have been done to help with the character development, yet enough was expressed and explain to follow.

Action: The action was where I felt it could have used a little more choreography with the swordplay.. .. more torture and blood.. not enough hack and slash..

The video quality is that of toei and animego video. An enjoyable addition to Japanese samurai/ninja flicks. Just my humble opinion cheers!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not THAT good., July 28, 2006
This review is from: Demon Spies (DVD)
This is a entertaining ninja movie but I think is not one of the best. Here's why:

The sound was terrible (to much bass), the action scenes were not well choreoghraphied, the movie is kind of slow, the ninjas look lame with those silly demon masks and there are no stealth missions.

The only good stufs were the blood and gore and some special ninja fighting tricks.

If you are looking for a cool ninja movie then this one is not for you. The dvd trailers show Shadow Hunters and Shadow Hunter 2, I think that those movies are WAY more better than this one because the look high budget action-packed!!!

Adios.
