Don't miss this terrific collection of horrifying tales by Garon Cockrell, founder of popculturebeast.com. Included in this edition are "Demonic," "Eggs," "Home Alone," "What's Your Pleasure?," "The Strange Tale of Griffin Shard," "Looking Glass," "Interrogation," "Manny," "Prelude," and "Haven."
"DEMONIC is a veritable cornucopia of ghoulish delights! A real treat." — Brandon Ford, author of CRYSTAL BAY and PAY PHONE
"Raw-boned horror with veins of humor, splashes of surreal visions, and pathos... Bloodily gruesome entertainment. DEMONIC's the one for fans of extreme story-telling who like a wicked twist in the tail." — Simon Clark, author of VAMPYRRHIC, THE MIDNIGHT MAN, THIS RAGE OF ECHOES, BLOOD CRAZY, STRANGER, GHOST MONSTER, BUTTERFLY, HUMPTY'S BONES, and many other novels
Mr. Cockrell's "Demonic" is a series of spellbinding and spooky tales that are gory, well constructed and as spellbinding as they are frightening. This is a book that you'll want to read 2 or 3 times just to make sure you caught every frightening nuance. "Demonic", Cockrell's debut work, shows that this author has all the makings to be one of the next great horror authors.
This was the perfect collection of short stories to break in my new Kindle!
This book really pulls you into Garon Cockrell's sick imagination with each story adding a layer into the bloody, at times darkly amusing, and always surprising world he created.
Each story could easily stand alone on it's own merits but, together, manage to surprise and intrigue the reader with unexpected twists and collaboration.
After finishing Haven I am already itching for more!
This collection of short stories is deceptive at first. You think you're reading... well, a simple collection of unique short stories. The brilliance is that while each story can stand completely on its own, you start to find threads that reappear in the stories as you go, connecting them together and culminating in the final story.
If you're a horror fan, you'll want to pick this up. It's clever, twisted, and fresh. Considering how many stale, overdone conventions this genre has in both print and on the screen, it's refreshing to read something where you really don't know what's coming around the bend. Left me wanting more, but not shortchanged. 5 stars!
Garon Cockrell is self-proclaimed Pop Culture Nerd with deep love for movies, television, toys, books, video games, music, comic books, and much more. Garon is an aspiring writer of film and television and shares his loves and hates for all things in the pop culture verse at his home on the web, www.popculturebeast.com.
Garon Cockrell grew up in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. Born in 1980, he led a relatively ordinary life. He moved around a lot, lived with his mother and then with his father. He had some childhood problems: mainly a bad attitude, a major dislike of school, and a terrible case of shyness. But there was one constant in his life that has never left him after all the years of change and growth: His love of movies. He fell in love with movies at a young age after seeing films like The Land Before Time, Return of the Jedi, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in theaters. These movies ignited his imagination. It wasn't long after that he snuck his first look at Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street. It was this film that would launch a fascination with scary movies and a deeper love of film that generates a strong emotional connection with viewers whether it is fear, laughter, longing, or sadness. It is Garon's desire to write and create films that continue this tradition of emotional connection. He wants nothing more than to write something that someone, even if just one person, connects with.
At the age of 19, Garon would follow his dream of writing movies with strong emotional resonance to Hollywood. He had a brief stint as an extra appearing in such shows as Malcolm in the Middle, Once and Again, and even appearing in Golden Dreams; a former attraction at Disney's California Adventure.
Working dead end job after dead end job, Garon continues to work towards his goal of making movies. He was a recent quarter finalist in the NexTV Writing and Pitch competition and had a short script titled "The Visitor" optioned. He continues to market his feature length scripts, Afraid of the Dark, The Devil's Hand and In A Crooked Little House while working on new projects: Kevin and Calvin Search for Snow, Rogue, and Race The Devil.
Five years ago, Garon launched his own website featuring news, reviews, and commentary on Popular Culture, www.popculturebeast.com. The site has grown rapidly with materials being provided by many major studios for review and coverage. His reviews have been featured on various websites including TheIssue.com and Rob Zombie's personal MySpace blog.
This is just a taste of the action that Garon is striving for. He knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that his purpose is entertainment. Whether he is writing an original feature length film, living his ultimate dream of writing a Nightmare On Elm Street sequel, working in the writer's room of a television show, or simply writing about things he loves on his website, Garon will continue follow his dreams.
