Good for half a movie,
By
This review is from: Demonic (DVD)
Demonic may look very much like a lot of the bargain basement horror stuff littering video shelves, but that's because it is. And for much of the first half of this flick there's no difference between this and every other piece of schlock. The movie starts out (as they all do) with 5 teens who are crossing the deep woods in the crappiest vehicle they can find. Naturally it breaks down and our clueless lot split up and begin to search for help. Much of their time (and ours) is spent wandering aimlessly shouting "Hello!" and "Who's there?" a lot. Then a couple of them stumble upon an abandoned house yet go inside anyway to find a phone. Now mind you they find one but despite the fact that it obviously doesn't work they try to use it anyway! But they are attacked and knocked out by the lone occupant (Tom Savini).
At about this point the movie does something unexpected. It starts getting good. It turns out that Savini's character is held prisoner inside the place by six demonic, beautiful, and very naked babes! Apparently they love to make out with their victims before they devour them (men and women alike). When they begin attacking the seperated group, they (quite literally) turn them into lower lip sandwiches! When the main couple free themselves of Savini's grasp they have to contend with the demons in their escape attempt. These scenes are the best in the movie for they actually have some semblance of suspense. The makeup design for these creatures is pretty good and so is a scene where a guy gets disemboweled. And of course it certainly helps that our deadly lasses don't wear a stitch throughout the entire thing. The movie ends how most certainly end but for a while Demonic is absolutely angelic.

A Descent Way to Spend A Couple of Hours,

The movie starts out by quoting the book of Enoch that references the story of angels that came down and slept with human females and then were tossed out of heaven. This led me to believe that the angels in the woods were actually the Nephilim, the deformed by-product of an angel and a human female's union, but the movie never made it clear. The movie does refer to the naked women in the woods as angels, which doesn't make much sense to me going by the reference at the beginning. However, that aside, the movie does have some good ideas and does produce a fair amount of tension. The relationship between the brother and the arrogant sister was very interesting to me. This movie tries to be a true horror film, meaning that it doesn't try to incorporate humor in it at all. There are some moments that don't work for me, but overall, I'm glad I picked it up. It was great to see Tom Savini, who I think overacted some, but not to any degree that detracted from the movie for me. Give this a try, it's pretty good.

Things that go Bump Bump in the Night,
This review is from: Demonic (DVD)
There are just some things you don't expect to find roaming around the woods at night.
And droves of naked women is one of them. (What's supposed to be anyway) The most beatiful women to ever grace your eyes. The only problem is...they'll eat your face. Part Angel/Part Demon, these girls got the goods. Oh yeah...except for that whole razor sharp teeth thing. But can you really blame guys for falling for the bait. I mean, there is no better lure than a naked chick. Seriously though. The movie starts off pretty slow,.... o.k. really slow. It takes forever introducing you to characters, you could care less about. Honestly 20 minutes after the movie was over, I already forgot who these people were. Everyone except Tom Savini,(who was only present for like 10 minutes of the movie.)& the ever-present naked succubi. Tom Savini played a raving psychotic, living in a cabin in the woods, who helped feed the demonic temptresses. The naked chicks played .....well they played naked chicks, except they had a mouthful of razors. So you know, some things are out of the question. In all honesty, this movie is a nostalgic throwback to the 1980's generation of horror. It seriously felt like it was shot 20 years ago, and they just re-discovered it. It really isn't worth a purchase, or a rental. Maybe if you catch it on TV, but even then check to see if something better is on. If you got an extra $10 laying around, and want a movie that you and your friends can make fun of with your own brand of commentary, on a lazy afternoon. Then and only then would I purchase this. It wasn't awful, but there is just so many better horror movies out there. I own it. But that's only because I picked it up at Walmart for $10 while I was buying a better movie. By the way, the chicks in the film look almost nothing like the one on the cover. MORAL OF THE STORY: If beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, then the beholder better get himself some glasses.

Save your money. This isn't even worth a review. Naked girls immediately on screen but after 10 mins I didn't even care. Skip it. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Forest of the Damned (Johannes Roberts, 2005)
I'll start off by saying what I would normally leave till the end, because I don't want to waste your time (or any more of mine than I already have): unless you're a Tom Savini fanatic who absolutely must see everything in which the man appears, avoid this cliché-ridden, derivative tripe like the plague. On the other hand, if you're a Savini completist, the kind of person who only saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno because Tom Savini had a small part in it, then by all means, give this one a go. While I hesitate to call anything in this movie a "plot", I will attempt a synopsis: there's a forest that contains the damned. The damned in this case seem to be some sort of offspring of sirens, who wander around wearing no clothes, getting it on with one another when there don't happen to be any males around, and slaying passersby for food. Needless to say, with a setup like this, you know there has to be a group of young-and-beautifuls whose van is going to break down smack in the middle of said forest. And right you are! They stumble upon a house in the middle of the forest and try to take shelter there, but they soon find out that while what's in the house is more human, it's no less deadly... Yeah, that's pretty much it. And plots like this can be done with wit, style, and aplomb on occasion. Forest of the Damned is not one of those times. Roberts is also responsible for Hellbreeder and Darkhunters. About those, perhaps it's best to say that at 3.1, Forest of the Damned has the highest rating of any of Roberts' feature films listed at IMDB. Probably because it contains Savini, as well as supermodel Nicole Petty (who should stick to modeling), so there's at least some to cheer for and someone to stare at. Other than that, though, there's not a single thing about this dog to recommend; stay far, far away. *

This is a terrible movie. I got it because I am a Tom Savini fan, and his performance was fine. The rest of the movie was poorly paced, written, and went nowhere!
If you are looking for naked chicks with bad teeth rolling around on the ground and biting guys - have at it!

Only One thing Good About This Movie...,
By Troy Hunter "T.H." (Louisville, Ky United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Demonic (DVD)
The only thing good about this movie is the abundance of nudity. The demon girls are totally naked through the whole film, and even that became a little weak after a while. It just needed a few things, like more full-frontal, more acting, more plot, more money, more script, and more direction. Then we'd have had a hit on our hands. Seriously though, unless you can get it for $5.00 or less, don't waste your time.

I watched this movie, I was not impressed. I was not expecting a block buster, but something which could at least be followed, The ending was disappointing and left me waiting for the next scene in the movie. The ending to me seemed like they just ran out of money and quit shooting. I mean, It just ended and nothing was resolved. I watched through the credits, there were some jumbled scenes as they rolled and I half expected this to resolve some of my questions. It did not. Could have been much more.

I'm a big fan of Tom Savini, but If I were him I'd ask that this film be used for kindling. I fast forwarded it several times just to get to the point in certain scenes. To classify this movie as 'B' rated would be like giving it 5 stars.
How disappointed I was.

Entertaining!,

This is a pretty good terror film. It's pretty straight forward, no humor at all. My only complaints was there really wasn't enough character developement, or explanation as to what the creatures were or what their purpose was, and Tom Savini's acting.
Other than that, this is one of the better terror films out there. It's easy to understand the story, don't get me wrong, I just would have liked the story and characters fleshed out, so to speak, more. |
