5.0 out of 5 stars Geezus Keeryst!
Oh my God, this movie sucks! It sucks so badly you gotta love it. I laugh harder each time I watch it. Crappy actors, cheeseball dialogue, no budget graphics! What's not to love? If you are looking for a great late night weekend movie to go with your microwavable bag of popcorn and 2 liter of Coke, this is it. Treat yourself and buy this dvd! If you have no sense of humor...

1.0 out of 5 stars Demonic Digital Dreck
In general, I think the digital revolution is a good thing. Somewhere in the world, the next Sam Raimi is creating a horror masterpiece using just a digital movie camera, a home computer and a copy of Final Cut Pro. Hopefully very soon, someone is going to reinvigorate indie horror on a small budget and I can't wait to see it.

This is not that movie...

1.0 out of 5 stars Demonic Digital Dreck, February 15, 2005

In general, I think the digital revolution is a good thing. Somewhere in the world, the next Sam Raimi is creating a horror masterpiece using just a digital movie camera, a home computer and a copy of Final Cut Pro. Hopefully very soon, someone is going to reinvigorate indie horror on a small budget and I can't wait to see it.

This is not that movie.

You know you're in trouble from the first frame of this movie. There's some kind of ridiculous voice over about angels that plays over some really terrible CG shots of the Earth from space and some kind of comet. Then, it cuts to a shot of two archaeologists working on some kind of dig. Apparently they have discovered some kind of ancient door, which they are brushing clean of sand. Take a stock shot of the desert and superimpose a picture of two people with paint brushes in the lower right hand corner. That's the way this shot looks.

I read a review that claimed that the lead "actor", Richard Benedetto, is some kind of established comedian. If I were Richard, I wouldn't quit my day job. Physically, he's a low rent combination of Lou Ferrrigno and Frank Stallone. His acting is the only horrifying part of this whole movie. I'm also not buying the idea that this movie was meant to be funny. The movie only sways into an absurd comedy in the last half hour. I think someone probably watched the first hour and realized that it wasn't working as a horror movie, so they rewrote the ending to make it into a screwball comedy thing.

The effects are obviously done on a home computer, but not anything that was made before 1979. These look like they were done on an Atari 800. These effects are worse than anything you'll see on a third graders flash animation site. The lighting is horrible. It's as if they couldn't afford a light bulb over 40 watts or they didn't know how to open up the aperture on the camera. They tried to fix this in post by blasting the image with as much light as possible, which just makes it grainy. There are shots in the movie that are so grainy that you'd swear there was sand in your TV screen.

Clearly, the writer and director were influenced by Sam Raimi, but they also seem to love the lowbrow comedy of Trey Parker. Their attempt to create a movie that combines South Park and Evil Dead is a questionable goal to begin with... the result is worse than you can imagine.

What starts off as a serious action-horror flick, quickly degenerates into a intentially funny comedy. Stupid? Yes, but still funny.

The Demons in the title refer to the creatures accidentally released by some archeologists while poking around an ancient Iranian/Iraqi/?? temple. The scientists' Army bodyguards get stuck with the task of mixing it up with the trash-talking demons, which leads to some very funny situations and flashes of T&A.

The whole "demon teeth pulling" scene had me howling with laughter. I don't know, to me there's something funny about scenes where slimy demons try to out trash-talk the humans.

Its worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Unique, Terrible Film - Highly Recommended, May 23, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Demons At the Door (DVD)
Let me get one thing clear, right off the bat: this is technically a terrible movie. And by terrible, I actually mean arguably the worst movie I've seen. Now that that's out of the way, know that I actually went out of my way to purchase a legitimate copy of this movie and have watched it multiple times, converting several others to its `appeal' in the process. I think the most fascinating thing about this movie is that it is terrible in every single aspect, whether it be the trailer for some equally-awful movie at the beginning that you can't fast forward through to the Star Wars-esque intro text that moves faster than the narrator can read it. And no, I am not a `juggalo' or have any sort of opinion one way or the other about the ICP, which a lot of reviews have mentioned as being a sort of prerequisite for one to actually enjoy this. Now then, why do I like it and who would I actually recommend this to? These are actually hard questions to answer as I'm not sure I can truly define the appeal myself but, for some unknown reasons, I find myself recommending this to others over almost all of the hundreds of terrible horror movies I've soaked in over the years (and Troll 2, which is arguably considered `the best worst movie' for some reason, is actually a technical marvel compared to DATD). Maybe it's because it's sort of an anti-Arrested Development in a sense; with AD, the writing was so sharp that the more you watched an episode the more brilliant nuances and details were revealed, confirming the level of detail and passion that went into its production. With DATD, every time you sit through it, you'll start picking up on new things that are even more awful about it than you remembered and, once you thought it wouldn't get any worse, it somehow always does. For me, that's psychologically fascinating. This is not for casual horror fans but, if you enjoy the bottom-of-the-barrel B-movies and are looking for something with... personality(?), this has potential to blow you away. I would say this movie has kind of a Troma appeal but, to be frank, I think the majority of Troma films have had much higher production values (and they actually edited their footage before releasing their final product). There are a lot of great one-liners to be found but you have to get acquainted with the style before they are no longer cringe-inducing. So, as proven by the amount of time spent on this review, I would highly recommend this if you're on the fence; it's a very specific type of `terrible movie' that I have yet to see matched and am personally proud to have it in my collection. Just try not to take it too seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hilariously Bad Film, April 23, 2009
This review is from: Demons At the Door (DVD)
As bad as Demons at the Door is, you can't help but laugh at almost every scene, just because of the pure ridiculousness of it. Bad acting, worse special effects and terrible sound really help along the laughs when lines like "I am here to avenge for my god Allah!" are yelled by a terrorist who looks like a bum that was commissioned off the street for his acting debut.
This film may be horrible in the overall sense of movie reviews, but you cant help but enjoy almost every minute of it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please don't waste your time, or money!!, January 3, 2008
This review is from: Demons At the Door (DVD)
This DVD has a great cover...and thats where it ends. Honestly. I generally love B horror films. The evil dead 2 is in my top 10 films all time. I must warn you, however, you will regret buying this film. I am considering filing a police report for theft of the 10 bucks I paid!

The dialog may have been written by a pre-adolescent with a stunted vocabulary. I was intrigued by the score which was made up of Songs by a band called the Insane Clown Posse...gut wrenchingly awful. Sorry guys.

The actors, though not given much to work with, combined for the worste performance ever! And finally...the special effects. So "special" they came straight off the short-buss to make the folks who did sol of the mole men look like they worked for WETTA! Woste movie ever, too bad you can't leave 0 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars CRAP, March 26, 2006
This review is from: Demons At the Door (DVD)
Me and my friends would have done a better job with a camcorder. What a piece of garbage this movie is.. Watching this movie is sheer waste of time. I still dont belive I just went after the DVD cover and the raunchy scene shown behind the cover. Many Z-rated movies have better story lines than this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enter Armageddon Juggalos!, February 19, 2005
By
This review is from: Demons At the Door (DVD)
Yes I agree that the lightening is poor, and the acting is bad. But you have got to love the corny trash-talking demons. Combined with the awesome songs from Midnight Syndicate and Insane Clown Posse. All Juggalos have got to watch this movie. In the end Satan dies and the good guys rule over Hell. Who wouldn't want to party down under? As long as mankind is unharmed. Though they should have put more strippers in the movie. One is just not good enough for me.
