You have never seen Kentucky horse country like this turn-of-the-century adventure before, nor have you had dreams (wet or dry) that have had the vividness of context, imagery, tactility, or intimacy depicted here. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good read
Despite the other good reviews on this book, I have found the book not to be a good erotic read. It felt like some sanitized version of a dirty book. There is no eroticism because there is no danger at all. I get the feeling that all will turn out well and that there is nothing to fear.

You have never seen Kentucky horse country like this turn-of-the-century adventure before, nor have you had dreams (wet or dry) that have had the vividness of context, imagery, tactility, or intimacy depicted here. Melissa MacNeal once again takes you for an exotic journey into the dark mansion of albino siblings and underground caverns of hidden beauty and mystery. Whether you suffer with Vanita under the oppressive rule of Daddy Harte, or delight with her in discovering new mechanical toys, or play a voyeur with her in watching Damon and Desiree's moonlite dances, or thrill with her in Pearce's passionate and fulfilling encounters, you will be enthralled and satisfied from cover to cover. This is a story of strong characters with powerful urges in challenging circumstances that is well worth your reading . . . it brought me many hours of pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Erotica, August 24, 2002

An imersing romp from the confines of acadamia to the dilapidated manse's mishandled inheritance of the heroine, dastardly "bad guys" and the mis-guided offspring who spare no lustful indignities to their new indentured servant... Pleasingly graphic and hot, an eye-opener for the timid or strait-laced, a gratifying title to add to the 'ol personal library - good enuf to want to touch yourself to.

Despite the other good reviews on this book, I have found the book not to be a good erotic read. It felt like some sanitized version of a dirty book. There is no eroticism because there is no danger at all. I get the feeling that all will turn out well and that there is nothing to fear.

Even when the heroine is being buggered, she shows no feelings of guilt either and her attitude is that of "Yes, do your worse. I can take whatever you dish out to me." She may as well be a robot.

As for the brother and sister, Damon and Desiree, it's quite obvious that they are non-sexual creatures which get their kicks from other things. Trying to seduce Damon is like trying to turn a heterosexual male into a homosexual. There is plainly nothing exciting in the effort. This book is simply a waste of my time and resources. Both of which has been consumed and lost forever.

To enjoy this book, you, the reader, are going to have to pay attention as the story winds itself through an intricate plot and even more intricate characters ...

Our southern belle, Vanita, is summoned home from the boarding school for young ladies to find that her parents mansion and hore breeding stock had been sold and destroyed by her aunt, the trustee of her deceased parents estate. To make matters worse, our heroine is traded to Franklin Harte to pay for aunties gambling debts as the intended wife of Franklin's son, Damon, an albino, super intelligent, bizzzarre and sexual deviate ..... to add spice to this tableaux Damons twin sister, Dez, is absolutely yummie .....

So Vanita finds her choices to be Damons wife, his father's whore, or get thrown into the Franklin coal mines as a slave labourer never to be seen again ...

This is historical erotica at it's best with twists and turns that are absolutely wonderfull and a pleasure to read, I could not put it down ......

4.0 out of 5 stars Devilish Rouges, April 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Demon's Dare (Black Lace) (Paperback)
Review of DEMON'S DARE

The latest novel under the Black Lace imprint ("Erotic fiction by women for women"), DEMON'S DARE is a historical romance, a bodice-ripper of the old fashioned variety, but one that is liberally laced with explicit sex. Melissa MacNeal is known for her intricate plots and suspenseful stories and DEMON'S DARE is in that tradition.

Vanita, our adventuresome heroine, in an effort to save her rightful inheritance from the evil clutches of greedy landholder, finds herself making a pact with the devil - or is he? For the devilish rouge who has such a hypnotic hold on her, is only one of a parade of odd characters, each with his or her own sexual proclivities, who are not quite what they seem.

The story takes some surprising twists and turns, as our heroine is plunged into a decadent world of an old Southern Plantation. It is bizarre world, complete with a perverse carnival, trysts in enchanted grottos, and orgies in moonlight gardens, along with some strange clockwork devices that seem right out of a Fellini movie.

If you like romance novels with a bite, this one's for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Southern Hospitality with a whole new warp!, March 14, 2002

And be careful who you dance with at Vanita's betrothal party, for appearances are QUITE deceiving!

Bad enough that Aunt Lill has traded Vanita away as Damon Harte's bride, in repayment of her gambling debts. Worse yet, this beautiful, creative albino is more interested in his twin sister Desiree than in marrying anyone! Once she's hauled, naked, to the Hartes' decaying plantation mansion by Franklin Harte, Our Heroine gets caught in the dark world of Damon's life-sized clockwork toys and Desiree's possessive lust, and becomes the target of their daddy's depraved humiliations, as well. Only her dare with the mysterious Pearce Truman keeps Vanita hopeful of escaping to reclaim her family's Lexington, Kentucky horse farm, where she can avenge her aunt's deceptions.
