5.0 out of 5 stars You Know Not What You Play With
Riveting, socking, and sobering are the words I use to describe the content of Demons in Disguise. This is a must read for anyone who ventures on the "playground" of seeking communication with the dead. You better be ready to face the distressing reality that there are supernatural forces whose goal is deception and captivity. "Ye know not what you play with". A must read.

I was nearly able to finish this entire book in one sitting. The material is certainly engrossing, although not entirely consisting of Wohlberg's own writing. There are several parts that are just extended reprints of stories and material from famous psychics and mediums, not to mention sections of the Holy Bible, but those are nonetheless just as interesting, (if not moreso) than S.W.'s writing. Although I did not ultimately find his especially detailed arguments compelling in the slightest, I did find his warnings to be unnerving and distressing.

I purchased this book as someone interested in reading about the history and practice of spirit communication, and am happy to have this book as it does represent one perspective on it. However, I have some other analysis/opinions on the book that I would like to share with other potential buyers.

S.W. will build up to a very creepy point of high tension, that would give any reader the unholy willies and then throw in "I don't tell you this to scare you." He does this repeatedly, and what it really says to me is "Yes, he is." I believe the author does use fear- as a tactic- in order to shepherd those who would dabble in mediumship or spirit communication away from such an act. Why? Because he sincerely believes it is wrong, and a sin against God. Okay. But he starts to go a little far when he begins to insinuate that mediums should be stoned to death, as is suggested in the Bible. P. 94: "It is not my job to judge motives or decide destinies. I'm not qualified to issue such verdicts." He states. But he DOES suggest the all-powerful creator of the universe thinks so... "Don't blame me. I didn't write Deuteronomy." mmm...hmmm....

I was particularly unconvinced by his argument about Saul confering with a medium to call up the spirit of Samuel, claiming it wasn't samuel, it was a demon. Very weak argument, there. In any case, despite some of his textual citations and interpretations, I did find this book interesting and certainly food for thought.

4.0 out of 5 stars Supernatural, August 13, 2007
This review is from: Demons in Disguise: The Dangers of Talking to the Dead (Paperback)
I hadn't really thought about what this author regards as a "ghostly trend" that has been going on. But when I started reading the book I realized there is a lot of attention on the supernatural in the movies, television and books.

This book will reveal what dangers can be behind people's search of the supernatural. There are references to "unclean spirits" (Mark 6:7), "rulers of the darkness of this age" ((Eph. 6:12) and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Demons, August 5, 2007
This review is from: Demons in Disguise: The Dangers of Talking to the Dead (Paperback)
This book is about demons and how to discern between what is real and not real. It talks about mediums and their spirit guides and ghost.

It warns about the dangers of evil and the tactics of the enemy. It lets us know that this type of evil is forbidden in the Bible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shut up already...., September 30, 2008
This review is from: Demons in Disguise: The Dangers of Talking to the Dead (Paperback)
In writing this drivel author Steve Wohlberg assigns first century ignorance a place in a 21st century world...Nothing can be"proved" biblically unless of course you accept the notion that the bible is something other than a book of fables..
Apparently the author does not accept the fact that it is science and not close-minded blind faith that rules in the modern world, and has made a career out of trying to persuade others that anything that does not conform with his religion is bad..This book is no exception..
Apparently the crowd that goes along with this author's fundamentalist notions has not had very much experience in the REAL world, and have thier own mentalities firmly rooted in the"exorcist-school of thinking..The Exorcist,as you may remember, was a movie about a"demon" that alledgedly possessed a girl, making her head spin around and making her vomit what looked like pea soup..A lot of people actually thought that this was based on a true story..The fact that no real girl's head ever spun around(which of course would have broken her neck, killing her) didn't matter..Demons were REAL,and they could inhabit people and make them do really wild things...
This same mentality permeates this book..Quoting from a book like the bible, that was written down during an age of profound ignorance of all natural laws,a time when mental illness was"demon possession",atime when germs were unknown as the cause of illness, this author uses notions of equal"merit" to claim that"demon masters" are talking through dead people for thier own nefarious purposes...Well,I suppose that if you can believe that people walk on water or turn water into wine you can also believe that everything that this author and his religious co-conspirators do not agree with just naturally come from some "demons" with an agenda of thier own..I don't believe it,and as far as I am concerned this author ought to shut up already and stop making such a complete fool of himself....
