4.0 out of 5 stars HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!!!!, April 5, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Demon's Fire (Tales of the Demon World, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Emma Holly is one of only a few authors who can take sensual, graphic, sex and turn it into a bold, daring, romance. She has done that with her Demon World novels and this is no exception, in fact it is probably the hottest one of these novels. DEMON'S FIRE has characters from both her novels of the Demon World and her short stories. Charles, Beth and Herrington from THE DEMON'S DAUGHTER and Prince Pahndir from PRINCE OF ICE. I have to say PRINCE OF ICE is my favorite.

Charles and Beth are now 24 and Beth has loved Charles since she was 16, he also loves her but feels unworthy because of his early life as a male prostitute. He also has desires that he feels are unhealthy, he wants a Demon to drain his essence. Both are in Bhamjran on a dig with Herrington. While walking in the market they are drawn to the Yamish Demon Prince who runs a house of desires.

Prince Pahndir is unable to fulfill his own desires because of a genetic problem. When he sees the young couple he realizes they may be the answer to his problem.

Just when it seems the three of them may be able to become a family, the past arises and Prince Pahndir who was tortured, declared dead, and kept hostage in a bawdy house in the Demon Capitol until rescued by Buttercup and her Prince in PRINCE OF ICE, must now face the same dangerous Yama who murdered his wife.

The twists and turns are many and it is a good adventure even if the sensual scenes are many and graphic. I liked getting the rest of the story of Prince Pahndir and the characters from THE DEMON'S DAUGHTER, however be aware this is not a comfortable book to read. If necessary you can skip a few pages but most of even the steamiest add to the story.

Emma Holly is a very unique author. If you like the heat, this one is for you.

This review is from: Demon's Fire (Tales of the Demon World, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Although they've long been attracted to each other, neither Beth nor Charles have ever admitted it, much less acted on it. But everything changes for them in Bhamjran, where humans freely mix with the Yamish demons, and the sexual mores of society are decidedly less strict than Beth's hometown.

Once the irresistible Prince Pahndir sets eyes on Beth and Charles, he feels a stirring in his loins he never imagined he would again since the tragic death of his mate years earlier. Even his years in sexual slavery never excited him as much as this pair of young humans do. Dare he hope that one of them just might be a second mate for him?

But Pahndir's enemies are determined to destroy him, and the outcast prince may not live long enough to find love with Beth and Charles.

Once again, Emma Holly immerses her fans in a decadent world of pleasure and intrigue bound to induce fever-like temperatures in readers! With the third book in her TALES OF THE DEMON WORLD series, we experience the thrill of pure love without boundaries. DEMON'S FIRE is a story of love that transcends both race and gender, as well as societal expectations.

Pahndir is a somewhat tragic hero, one who has long ago resigned himself to a lonely life without his own family, and few people who he can trust. Betrayed by his family, he has no one and nothing except for his business, a brothel in the city of Bhamjran. Watching as his encounters with Charles and Beth breed an unexpected hope deep inside him is absolutely heartening.

Charles is drawn to the wicked sensual satisfaction that Pahndir and his brothel offers, but he fears what he believes is unacceptable sexuality, and worries over what he perceives as his own depravity. The love of the two people who mean the most to him proves powerful enough to alleviate his most deep-set concerns, allowing him to open up and accept a family of his own for the first time in his life.

Although sexually innocent, Beth is the catalyst that brings this trio together in the end. It is her boldness, her desire for both men that finally quell the doubts both men have regarding their strange relationship. Of course, the strange changes she has been undergoing since her experience in Queen Tou's chambers, recently discovered in an archaeological dig, just might have given her a little push.

DEMON'S FIRE is rampant with the wild sexuality that fans of Emma Holly's work crave. The love scenes will make anyone hot under the collar, and I daresay those lucky enough to have a significant other handy when they read this book will give their love one a night to remember after reading some of them! Underneath it all, however, there is a wonderful story of unconventional love that will warm the heart as surely as the love scenes warm other parts...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but not her best, April 3, 2008
This review is from: Demon's Fire (Tales of the Demon World, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Better than Prince of Ice, but not as good as Demon's Daughter. The posession subplot seemed like a somewhat forced way to give the female protagonist's character a bit more backbone. Not one of Holly's best developed characters...A big bonus is that we get to see what happens from two of the minor characters from Demon's Daughter and one of the characters from Prince of Ice. Erotic encounters were handled pretty well, although not quite as inspiring as some of Holly's earlier work. I would buy it again but don't expect to reread this book frequently.
