I say good not great; this was not nearly as good as Eve Silvers "His Wicked Sins". Eve Silver is a great writer but I feel that she could have done this book better...there was just too much erotica in this book for my taste. I would love to see Mrs. Silver use her story telling talents without so much sex talk. Im no prude but I like some story with the sex...

Demon's Hunger by Eve Silver

Paranormal Romance Mass Market Paperback - November 25, 2008

4 ½ stars

Eve Silver, once again, returns to the fantastic world of sorcerers protecting humans from bloodthirsty demons. She seamlessly combines horror, the paranormal and mystery into a book that is well worth the wait.

For those who love her gothic romance, I highly recommend this book as it has many of the same elements to thrill and keep you in suspense. I know I was really thrown at the end. Plus you are sure to love her fascinating paranormal world!

Vivien thinks she is loosing her mind as she begins to discover that large blocks of time are missing from her memory. What has she done? Where has she been? She believes she is going mad. When the mysterious Dain visits her, she becomes suspicious of his plea for help and her highly unusual attraction to him. Especially since soon after his arrival she is suddenly attacked by demons.

Dain is a sorcerer who has lived centuries. He needs Vivien's knowledge as a forensic anthologist to track down a serial killer. The problem is, he can't keep his mission separate from his desire for her. Dain's past has left him wary of love. Since then he has only been comfortable with 2 goals: magic and vengeance.

When demons attack Vivien, Dain knows that Vivian is safest with him and he finds himself wanting to protect her. As both seek to unravel the mystery of Vivien's memory gaps, explore their explosive passion and hunt down a serial killer they are drawn towards a chilling path neither expects.

Eve Silver has written a fascinating tale with characters I grew to love. If you enjoy thrillers, the paranormal, strong characters and unexpected twists that keep you on the edge of your seat... then THIS is the book for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Woweee! What a GREAT book and series!!, November 30, 2008

I LOVED this book!! There is action, strong heroines, hunky macho guys, great humor, the fight between good and evil and lot's of romance!! What more could anyone ask for?? When Vivien tossed her slipper, I snorted so loud I woke the Hubby and cat! And that was at the beginning! I really enjoyed the way Eve wrote the way Vivien and Dain worked together. And I liked how she made Vivien strong but needing help from, and wanting to help, Dain and the brotherhood. Dain appears to be the ultimate strong hero, but he has such a heartbreaking story for why he tries to keep from engaging his feelings. Both characters were well written with great depth and feeling. And the supporting characters were just as interesting!! I CAN'T wait to read the future stories of Darqun, Javier and Baunn!! GREAT book and GREAT series!!

4.0 out of 5 stars romance that left me guessing until the last page and looking for a sneak peek into the next installment, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Demon's Hunger (Mass Market Paperback)
Vivien Cairn has buried herself in her work to help keep her mind off the fact that she blacks out for hours at a time and suddenly has a raging libido. When she wakes up after a twelve-hour time lapse, there's a very tall, very sexy man at her doorstep claiming they spoke the night before about a mysterious charm bag. Her already sensitive libido kicks into overdrive, demanding she take him, but a demon attack in her basement thwarts any hopes of a tumble in the sheets.

After the Ancient's betrayal, Dain Hawkins is more determined than ever to protect the realm of man and annihilate any demon that crosses his path. He has lost everything dear to him and erected an ice cold layer around his heart, but one look at forensic anthropologist Viven Cairn has him melting in his boots. She exhibits bizarre behavior that may link her to a series of demonic killings, making her off-limits, but Dain can't help but fall for her. If she proves to be tied to his sworn enemy, will he be able to fulfill his duty, or will he be forced to betray his brotherhood?

Demon's Hunger by Eve Silver began at a slow, leisurely pace. Midway through, everything changed. I wasn't able to put the book down, wrapped up in the mystery and suspense of finding the serial killer and figuring out what was wrong with Vivien.

In serial books like these, the heroes and heroines are often interchangeable from one book to the next. This wasn't the case for Dain and Vivien. Dain is such a dynamic hero, dark but not dismal, brooding but not depressing, and Vivien was quirky and intelligent without being too naïve.

The only reason I give Demon's Hunger 4 tombstones instead of 5 was the overuse of occupational jargon. It distracted from the plot and made me reread passages to understand what was going on. Even with this snag, I thoroughly enjoyed the novel. It was an emotional romance that left me guessing until the last page and looking for a sneak peek into the next installment. Hopefully this isn't the last we'll see of the Compact of Sorcerers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Demon's Hunger, December 5, 2008
This review is from: Demon's Hunger (Mass Market Paperback)
Dr. Vivien Cairn is an anthropologist currently on a sabbatical. Right now things are a little difficult for Vivien, she is losing time, blacking out for 12 hours with no recollection of what she did while in her trance. She did know though, that she was always so hungry; but not always for food. Vivien had major trust issues, everyone had always left her, her father when she was 2, her mother came to visit less than a handful of times during the year, her one and only love passed away in a car accident... all she had was her good friend Amy that she met in college. Until now, until Dain Hawkins shows up on her doorstep looking for answers.

Dain Hawkins is a sorcerer, one of the Compact of Sorcerers, a brotherhood that is used to keep demons and hybrids at bay. Dain had discovered something strange going on that involved little red velvet gris-gris bags with bits of human hair, skin, and bone inside. The hybrids were collecting these little bags, but for what? Dain had lost his wife and daughter to the demons many years ago, so now he is hell bent on getting revenge by killing every one of them. When he meets Vivien, it is instant attraction and sexual heat, something he has never felt since his wife's death and this feeling could actually be stronger. As the days pass and she is in his care, he begins falling for her as well as finding out something is very wrong. The woman that his hardened heart is beginning to love could be something more sinister that he may have to destroy. Could he really destroy the creature that has stolen his heart? The worst part is... she doesn't even know what she is.

Eve Silver has rocked it out with this novel, Demon's Hunger. It took me until about chapter 4 to get really riveted, but once I was pulled in, I couldn't put it down. It was explosive, heated, and had just the right amount of romance and sex added to become astounding! As a stand alone book it could make it, but I have this urge now to go and add the series to my wish list, you should do the same. 4 Hearts

4.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal at its best!, December 3, 2008
Eve Silver is a best-selling author, with this book, Demon's Hunger, following her title, Demon's Kiss. Eve Silver holds two post secondary degrees. She teaches microbiology and human anatomy at a local college. After school she returns to romance, having found her own happily-ever-after with her husband and two sons.

Forensic anthropologist, Vivien Cairn, has come to the conclusion that she is losing her mind. Her sex drive is off the charts and she's blacking out; losing chunks of time with no memory of where or what she was doing. While examining one of many charm gris-gris bags, Vivien finds herself being rescued from a demon attack by a very sexy stranger, forcing her to question her sanity and what she always saw as reality. It was Dain Hawkins job to protect the wall between the human and demon realms, along with the Compact of Sorcerers known as the brotherhood. Torn between a seeded desire for Vivien and an ancient duty, Sorcerer Dain suspects that Vivien's mysterious symptoms are in connection to a series of murderous crimes. Can he save her from the evil that threatens to claim her? Better yet, should he?

I was a little put off by the immediate lust and sex drive when related to Vivien in the beginning of the book, as I found it unrealistic even for paranormal. After getting into the story and closer to chapter three, I quickly saw why and where it was going, and changed my mind. I mention this only because I don't want future readers to come to the same conclusion to brashly. I do believe that this book is the second in a series, however I had no difficulty picking it up and following the story. I love trilogy books or series books that give you closure and still prelude the next one. It makes for a very satisfying experience.

Eve Silver is just emerging into the paranormal romance scene, but I have no hesitation in stating that this is not the last we will see of her. She skillfully throws you into a world beyond possibilities and makes you believe it's reality- taking you away from everything but the pages you're captivated by and the characters you want to be. It was a very sound plot, with enough twists and questions to keep you glued. I didn't find any dead spots and I found the first and secondary characters relatable.

Demon's Hunger, by Eve Silver, is a tantalizing, dark, and magically fun read... sure to leave you satisfied in every way.

Im no prude but I like some story with the sex. ****Semi-Spoiler**** ***Anyway, this was basically about a women (Vivian) who doest know she a succubus (a female demon). She meets Dain who is a sorcerer who battles demons from taking over the world. As soon as Vivian meets Dain she becomes obbessed with having sex with him so for the rest of the book its ALL she can think about (and its just about all you'll read about). With this plot there is also a whole series of other things going on...but I cant tell you anymore or I'll ruin it.

Like I said its a good beach read but not a great read. I wasnt shocked at the ending, I actually knew who the killer was from the mid-way mark...which was surprising cause Eve Silvers specialty is shocking endings. Its worth a read just dont expect too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Demon's Hunger' is a sizzling, high-tension and extremely entertaining romance novel! BCM, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Demon's Hunger (Mass Market Paperback)
Demon's Hunger is a really creative and thrilling paranormal romance novel. The story is refreshingly unique with electrifying and imaginative plot twists that leave you with a feeling of intense satisfaction. The pacing is excellent with a smooth flow that surges into the magical and sexual confrontations between darkness and light. The characters are very likable; each with their own story and fascinating personality. The romantic pull between Vivien and Dain is so exquisitely written and with such vivid detail that it leaves no doubt about this Author's skill and talent. I really enjoyed reading this book and I hope to read and review more from Eve Silver, very soon.

I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent blending of Romance and Dark Urban Fantasy, February 2, 2009
This review is from: Demon's Hunger (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a big fan of Eve Kenin's award winning SHOMI futuristic romances so when the publisher sent me the latest Eve Silver dark fantasy paranormal romance (same author, different name) my reaction was YES!!!!!! I was not disappointed. This is the second book in the Compact of Sorcerers series and there were references to the earlier story but no so much that the book couldn't stand on its own. I will definitely be picking up the first book, DEMON'S KISS, right away though.

Vivian Cairn had a lot of personal baggage. Her father had abandoned the family when she was two, her mother was at best indifferent, and her high school boyfriend had died tragically following an argument between the two of them. But Vivian had taken her lemons and made lemonade becoming a highly respected forensic pathologist who gave other families closure. Lately though she has begun to suspect she was losing her mind. Recently she had begun losing significant chucks of time and had no memory of where she'd been or what she'd done during the blackouts.

It had just happened again right before her doorbell rang.

Dain Hawkins is member of the Compact of Sorcerers, long lived magical beings whose responsibility it was to maintain the integrity of the barrier between the human and demon realms. Recently Dain's mentor had betrayed the group and now was in league with a demon. The Compact had recently closed a demon in the portal between worlds, but a charred foot bone had remained on the human side. Dain needed Vivian's help to analyze the bone.

Upon arriving, Dain and his two comrades detect the presence of Hybrids in the area surrounding Vivian's home. While the other two sorcerers do reconnaissance, Dain speaks to Vivian. He notices that she has a small collection of red velvet gris gris backs similar to ones he and his friends had taken off of other Hybrids. The Compact suspects that a plot is afoot to reanimate a long deceased demon summoner in order to bring the demon back through the portal. The contents of the bags may provide a clue.

Vivian is stunned by the affect Dain has on her. Her libido had been non existent since the death of her high school boyfriend but now she was ready to jump a total stranger. Truly she was losing her mind. Before Dain can get all the answers he needs, Vivian is attacked by a demon. The demon is thwarted but Vivian's house is burned to the ground.

Dain is shocked by his reaction to Vivian which appears to be as strong as hers to him. He has baggage of his own having loved and his human wife and child to a demon attack many years ago. He has no intention of making that mistake again, but nevertheless shocks his friends with his possessiveness with regard to Vivian He will allow no one to watch over her but himself. Try though they both might to deny their feelings, their desire for one another is undeniable and insatiable.

Supernatural activity of the evil variety seems to be stalking Vivian dividing Dain's attention between her protection and his duty. The Compact has other problems. There had been a recent rash of grisly serial killings and the M.O. suggested a succubus (female counterpart). When Vivian's strange lapses persist, her behavior raises uncomfortable questions among Dain and his brethren. Could the woman he has fallen head over heels for be cold blooded killer? And if so, how would he choose between duty and love.

I was mesmerized by this tale. Not for one moment did I wonder if Vivian's heart was less than pure, but the unfolding of the mystery surrounding the succubus crimes was superbly handled. The romance was hot! Dain is a hero to die for. Sexy and loyal he relies on his instincts when all evidence points to the contrary. And because the diabolical demon plot has not yet been resolved, one simply cannot wait for the next installment to find out what happens next. Oh yeah, there are several sexy sorcerers still unattached too. Yum. Eve Silver is a truly versatile writer and I can't wait to see what she tries next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review, December 20, 2008
This review is from: Demon's Hunger (Mass Market Paperback)
Forensic anthropologist Vivien Cairn has been feeling weird lately. She wakes up having missed hours of time. Dain Hawkins is a sorcerer. He is part of a brotherhood, sworn to protect the space between humans and demons. Dain saves Vivien from a demon attack. For Vivien being rescued is just the start of how quickly things go from bad to worse for her. She gets propelled into Dain's world filled with demons, sorcerers, succubus and other creatures. Dain has never seen anyone so beautiful as Vivien or felt such a strong attraction. But before Dain can make a move, he will have to stop a killer.

There is a succubus killing people. It has no mercy. It only knows one thing...that is thirst. The closer Dain gets to putting a stop to the succubus, the closer he puts Vivien in harms way. Dain may have to make a decision to which is more important to him...stopping a succubus or protecting Vivien.

Demon's Hunger is the second book in The Compact of Sorcerers series by Eve Silver. I found myself memorized by this book. I came close to almost forgoing sleep to finish reading Demon's Hunger, it was that good. The attraction between Vivien and Dain was hot. This is because they lusted for each other and they never hooked up till close to the end of the book. I have read many paranormal novels but very few of them were about demons. Eve Silver did such wonderful job with Demon's Hunger that I find myself lusting for more. I have already made sure to pick up a copy of Demon's Kiss as soon as possible. Now that I have discovered Eve Silver, I will be all the rest of the books to follow in this series.
