This film has a lot going for it. From a technical aspect the cinematography is top-notch, the actors are among Poland's best,(including the great Boguslaw Linda in the lead role) and the plot is fast-paced and entertaining. The themes of this movie lend themselves to a lot of in-depth thinking about the role of UN Peacekeeping Forces.

During the height of the Bosnian War, Poland occupied fourth place in the ranking of contributers of military contingents in Yugoslavia even though they had not yet been admitted as a member of NATO. At this particuliar time, peackeeping troops were very limited on what they where allowed to do even when they found themselves or civilians in dangerously grave situations and they often went in unarmed. It is important to point out that at the time of this film's release, the war in Yugoslavia was reaching a point of conflict not seen in Europe since the Second World War, and human rights violations including "ethnic cleansing" were reaching a level on par to genocide.

The plot of this film revolves around a major in the Polish Army who makes the decision to deliberately disobey UN policy in order to attempt the rescue of fellow Polish soldiers who are shot down over restricted territory. This decision not only jepordizes Poland's attempt to join NATO but it puts the major's men in harms way and several of them are killed because of of his decision. However, the decision to violate UN policy allows the lives of an entire village of civilians to be saved, and isn't that one reason why Peackeeping Forces should be employed? In the end the bad guys lose. Winning wasn't easy, nor was it achieved without sacrifice. Success primarily came about because someone decided to get tough.

"Demony Wojny" is a modern war movie that shows the horrors war. As the title of the film suggests, the solders doing the fighting are the demons that inhabit the war torn land. The movie shows the loss and destruction experienced during the Yugoslav Wars in a way that may move even the most stoic of viewers. Wladyslaw Pasikowski, known for his intense action films such as "Psy," directs "Demony Wojny."

Set in the mid-1990s, a group of Polish peacekeeping forces are stationed in the territory of former Yugoslavia. The peacekeepers receive a distress message pleading for help in their area. A small team of soldiers is sent out to assist, but their short mission turns into a challenge, as the opposition is well trained and ready for a fight.

The film creates an intense feeling of suspense with its great plot and acting. The soldiers in this movie are played by several of Poland's best actors, including Boguslaw Linda, Olaf Lubaszenko, Zbigniew Zamachowski, Artur Zmijewski, Miroslaw Baka, and Radoslaw Pazura. This impressive lineup of actors does a great job portraying the expert fighters, as well as support personnel who turn out to be unfit when faced with combat. I would highly recommend "Demony Wojny" to those looking for a great action film.
