I came upon "dem's good beeble" at the listening station at my local record store, and, a year later, I can't stop listening to it! Say the words "country music" and I'm running in the other direction, but the Gourds have created a "hillbilly acid country" that has me hooked for life. Just try to listen to "Piss and Moan Blues" or "Caledonia" without tapping your toes. And if you can, try to decipher the muddled lyrics for even more fun. The Gourds are a find.

Really cool stuff. The Gourds are Americana at its best. This disc has a wonderful back porch vibe that begs for a lazy afternoon of Bud and hot dogs from the BBQ. "Piss & Moan Blues" and "Caledonia" are great. The instrumentation on these tracks is genius. The next disc, Stadium Blitzer clips this by a nose.

Not always as serious as the Drive By Truckers but just about as good and 100x better than most of the partially reconstituted mashed potatoes coming out of Nashville. Speaking of food this goes equally well with moonshine, marijuana or cheap beer. Speaking of drugs there is a certain psychedelic touch. This is also one of the better examples of accordion not being not nearly as bad (actually pretty good) as some are accustomed to. Trampled By the Sun is my favorite tune I think.
