Then, all I could find in the stores was Dentek cleaners.

The flexibility of the handle and the roundness of the scraper edge cause you to use a lot of pressure to try to get some gunk off your tongue.

I like this tongue cleaner because it does a good job of cleaning my tongue very well.

After my previous tongue-scraper snapped, I bought this at the local store as it was the only one available. When I brought it home and used it, I realized it was very poorly designed in comparison to my old one. The handle is extremely flexible making it nearly impossible to apply enough pressure to get a good scrape. Also, the scraper part is made of a rubbery material which again makes it hard to get a good scrape. I highly recommend that you DO NOT purchase this product as it does not serve its purpose well.

So the big box store stopped selling the Pureline Oralcare* brand scraper that I usually use and only had this Dentek brand. "Ok," I thought, "I like the Dentek floss picks, so I'll give their scraper a try even though the head looks small."

What a disaster. The handle is about as stiff as a wet noodle (ok, I'm exaggerating - let's call it an "al dente" noodle) and the edge that scrapes the tongue is not an edge at all - it's rounded so it doesn't scrape well.

The flexibility of the handle and the roundness of the scraper edge cause you to use a lot of pressure to try to get some gunk off your tongue. By the time you reach the tip of your tongue, the flexible handle whips the "scraper" head back in to shape, splattering saliva all over your bathroom. It's a good thing that the scraper doesn't actually clean anything off your tongue, because the resulting splatter would be really gross!

So in the end, there is no redeeming quality to this scraper. It really, really sucks.

*Be advised that the Pureline referenced above isn't the bees knees either. It performs well, with a stiff handle and a good scraper edge, but it's not very durable. So don't bust your butt looking for that specific brand. I think I'm going to try one of the stainless ones here on Amazon next. I'll post an update if I find anything I like...

These are the first tongue scrapers I have ever purchased. My dentist had told me that they were a good idea to add to my morning routine, however, the one she allowed me to take from the office was made from stainless steel. It was very painful to use. It did have an obvious effect on my breath, however it would often leave my tongue bleeding. I ordered these completely on a whim. After using them, I can greatly attest to there quality. They are made from rubberized plastic similar to most tooth brushes. However, they are a bit more flexible making it a lot more comfortable on the tongue. My tongue is back to its wonderful shade of pink and the misses has stated that my breath is fresher than ever. Oh...and buying two online was cheaper than buying one in the store. THESE ARE A MUST HAVE!!!

I have been using this product for a few months now and it works as well as anything I could imagine and is easy to use and clean. It's small and light enough to keep in your briefcase, duty bag, purse, if you're a lady or man-bag if you're a guy.

I don't get it when other reviewers say they can't apply enough pressure or that the scraper is made of a rubbery substance making a good scrape not possible. Either they're trying to scrape off old paint or using the wrong side of the device! I'm only using it on my tongue and whatever gets on a human tongue comes off with very little force.

Most of the public should really use one of these at least three times a day. The halitosis (dog breath) that goes around is sometimes enough to suffocate a goat, especially in confined spaces such as elevators.

I don't know how anybody could possibly break these. Seriously. I scrape crazy hard and have to refrain from gagging sometimes. My last one lasted 3 years and I only purchased another 3 pack because I lost it on a vacation. It doesn't cause my tongue to bleed and it keeps my mouth feeling clean until the next morning (I am a very fastidious brusher).

I get what some others are saying in that this product is fairly flexible, but to me, that's the point.

I, too, am an oral hygiene fan, and this product works very well for me. You don't want to overly irritate your tongue, although I know a lot of people seem to have this mentality that if you're not scraping something raw, it's not working. Perhaps that's where some of the negativity to this product is coming from, but I'm not one to judge.

***(I'm not a dentist, but anything said below is basically what my dentist told me, feel free to do your own research!):

If you feel the need to scrub your tongue until it's perfectly pink/red without anything on it, well, sorry, you probably will never attain that.

For most people, they WILL naturally have a little white residue on their tongues. It's natural. You can take it from me, who once had an oral thrush (yeast) infection on my tongue due to an antibiotic that worked, uh, too well, the small amount of "stuff" you may have on your tongue is likely the good bacteria/probitotics that you actually want there. If you've got some seriously cakey stuff going down, well, try some Listerine and a trip to the dentist, especially if you came off antibiotics and its all nasty even a few weeks later.....but run-of-the-mill white stuff here and there is ok, and this product helps keep it in check. :)

(Btw, if you do end up with a nasty case of thrush, the only thing that worked for me was something called "Threelac", it's basically probiotics in little packets, but the bugs in there were able to kick the yeast's azz once and for all, nothing the Dr gave me worked.....and I'm not a huge alternative medicine fan here but, hey, give credit where credit's due....
