Book Description

January 2000
This beautiful book offers a memorable look at one of the most popular icons of wild Alaska: Denali National Park.

Denali National Park is one of Alaskas top destinations. Now visitors will have the ideal keepsake in this dazzling collection of images by the countrys premier wildlife photography team. Erwin and Peggy Bauer have spent hundreds of hours in the field photographing the parks famous grizzlies and caribou, Mount McKinley, Wonder Lake, and even the elusive wolf. An accompanying essay describes the parks creation, natural history, and recreation potential, making Denali a wonderful memento of one of our countrys most beloved parks.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Mount McKinley is the centerpiece of Denali National Park, six million acres of Alaskan wilderness just below the Arctic Circle. At 20,320 feet it actually rises 18,000 feet in vertical relief, greater than that of the taller Mount Everest. The Bauers, a well-known team of wildlife photographers with more than 40 books to their credit, have made many trips to Denali. The scenery alone would bring anyone back, but wildlife species, such as grizzlies, wolves, and Dall sheep, are easy to observe in the park. The Bauers give us beautiful views of these charismatic animals as well as more intimate portraits of ground squirrels and ptarmigan. Denali's ecosystem remains intact, as the park has had very little development and receives only about 400,000 visitors per year, so it is a paradise for watching and photographing animals. The Bauers' lovely overview of Denali National Park is a steal at the price, and a useful addition to any library's collection on national parks. Nancy Bent

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunningly beautiful, powerful offering., April 5, 2000
This review is from: Denali: The Wild Beauty of Denali National Park (Paperback)
Erwin and Peggy Bauer's Denali provides a stunningly beautiful portrait of the park by two wildlife photographers. An essay describes the park's history but it's the photos which captivate in this small but powerful offering.
