4.0 out of 5 stars great workout
A great aerobic workout with strength training. 5 minute warm-up followed up by about 30 minutes of aerobic/strength training intervals. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not exactly the Ultimate...
I have many of Denise's workouts and, although this one is okay, I found it eerily similar to one of her tapes I have, Fat Burning Blast (1996), which is comprised of two 20-minute workouts, the first being a dancy-type (which I skip b/c I prefer more athletic workouts), and the other, the circuit-training 20 minutes. I feel I got much more out of the older...

A great aerobic workout with strength training. 5 minute warm-up followed up by about 30 minutes of aerobic/strength training intervals. I hate aerobics, but this is a good tape for those of us who don't want to grapevine & cha cha to get our cardio workout. The moves are athletic & include some kick boxing as well. No dance moves. The cool down is too long for my taste but others may enjoy it, especially if you like yoga, since the cool down is mainly yoga moves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Circuit Training!, May 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Denise Austin - Ultimate Fat Burner [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I've been lifting weights, doing step aerobics and interval training for about six months and just wanted to mix things up in my routine a bit. I'm not really a fan of Denise; I find her voice a bit annoying and her choice of words a bit on the cutesy side ("tone those tummies"). I figure that anyone who looks as good as she does must know what she is doing, so I gave this video a shot. It is quite intense and definitely not for beginners. I had to modify the pushups at the beginning and do them on my knees ("girl pushups") and only put two risers under my step, but I got a great workout. I like the variety in the different routines, and the recovery time gives you a chance to get your breath and rest a bit before moving to the next phase. I was disappointed, though, that there was very little instruction about how much weight to use or appropriate step height. Not everyone is going to be able to do the program at the intensity that Denise and the others follow on the tape. If you are new to exercise, skip this one, but if you have been working out for a while and need to kick your program into high gear, then this would be a good tape to choose.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intense Workout!, January 31, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Denise Austin - Ultimate Fat Burner [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I've used this video for two weeks now, and although my percentage of body fat has not diminished, it has provided a great workout. I would not recommend this video for beginners because the steps are quick and a little difficult. The steps are from kickboxing, basketball, even speed skating. They are not your typical aerobic moves and are actually fun to do. I found the three levels of intensity all challenging. When Level 3 was too difficult (i.e. the lunge power move), I simply continued the Level 2 moves. I didn't feel like I was cheating myself out of a better workout.

I know that a lot of people think Denise is too cheery, but I found her motivating. She doesn't assume that everyone using the tape is a gym rat.

I gave it four stars, though, because a step bench really is necessary, and I needed more space than I had. Overall, though, excellent workout and definitely worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you want to sweat, this is the one!, September 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Denise Austin - Ultimate Fat Burner [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this video last fall as a supplement for the winter since I can't get outside due to midwestern snow. This video definitely kept me from gaining the holiday pounds!! I'm usually sweating by the second segment. Some people say interval training is the way to go and I like the different routines throughout this video, especially the kickboxing. The routines for the arm workouts are great too. I've seen real definition in my biceps. I don't have a step for that particular segment, but I'm planning on getting one just to keep the higher intensity going. I gave four stars because this video may be a little too intense for some. Denise does a great job in this video!! PS: if you don't like her commentary (I find it motivating) just turn down the volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not exactly the Ultimate..., May 5, 2002

I have many of Denise's workouts and, although this one is okay, I found it very similar to one of her older tapes, Fat Burning Blast (1996), which is comprised of two 20-minute workouts, the first being a dancy-type which I don't use (I use athletic moves), and the other (which the Ultimate is similar to), the circuit-training 20 minutes. Many of the same routines from 1996 were used on this newer tape. I feel I got much more out of the older circuit-training tape...it moved faster in half the time, and I also worked up the same sweat as I did on the Ultimate Fat Burner. I was not happy with the weight work on the Ultimate Fat Burner--my muscles never quite felt like they were getting worked the way they did on the older workout tape (Denise moved quickly through the different muscle groups--not enough to feel a burn). I usually get effective workouts from Denise (especially Kickboxing and Blast Off Those Last 10 Pounds); however, I felt slightly disappointed that this newer tape seemed to be a revision of an older, more effective (and shorter) workout tape.

5.0 out of 5 stars A complete workout, January 1, 2003
This review is from: Denise Austin - Ultimate Fat Burner [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been in the military for 11 years so I am no stranger to intense exercise. I am always very sceptical about workout videos because they are just too easy. Not this one! In very little room ( I use my den) you get an intense heart pumping workout that works every muscle in your body. The only draw back is that it is a little tough on the knees. It is not for the faint at heart or the beginner. I do recommend this video to gym rats who would rather be at home.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good workout-it's a hard one though!!, August 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Denise Austin - Ultimate Fat Burner [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I am 28 years old and I would like to say that I'm in fairly good shape. I go to Jazzercise 2-3 per week. I tend to tire out quickly while exercizing if it's a routine I'm unfamiliar with.

I ordered this tape purely because I saw it used a step bench. I had hoped that the whole routine was a step workout but it is not. The moves they do on the step will make you sweat though! I found this workout pretty challenging, I was sweating the 1st 10 minutes! One thing I really liked were the breaks in between each segment. I normally go to level 2 rather than level 3 because this video does involve a lot of jumping and that tends to trouble my knees. I also learned by having a personal trainer that it's critical that you do these squats and jumping routines properly especially when they are telling you to make sure your knee is over your shoelaces. I gave this video a 4 out of 5 because these types of moves can really injure people if they don't do them properly. I've had experience doing them but I even skip a few of the counts so I don't do them incorrectly because of fatigue. I stopped several times for about 30 seconds to grab water, because you need a lot of it.
This video may not be the best for beginners as I've been working out for 5 years and this is very challenging to me.
While Denise's voice can be a little irritating, I thought her cues were good and she is good at trying to motivate you. I believe that doing this video like she suggests 3 times a week will definitely help people lose weight and tone up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great All Around Workout, February 7, 2002
By
This review is from: Denise Austin - Ultimate Fat Burner [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been working out with Denise Austin videos for 8 years and recently tried the latest one "The Ultimate Fat Burner." What peaked my interest was that the workout required the use of a step platform. The routine consists of a warm-up, then you do short cardio activites followed by weight training. This circuit training style tape is really fun to do and does provide an excellent cardio/strength workout. I highly recommend it to all fitness levels.
