About the Author

Dennis H. Christen
Actor/Writer/Producer

Dennis was born in Lehi, Utah in 1948. After growing up in California and Utah, he joined the army the day after graduating from high school and subsequently served in Korea from 1966 to 1969. After completing his term in the service, Dennis spent a two-semester stint at Brigham Young University. However, he could not resist the call of Hollywood and went there to pursue his dream of acting and writing.

During the long, drawn-out actor’s strike of 1980, Dennis was cast to do a miniseries in South Korea. After finishing the initial series, he was offered additional roles. However, to do so, he was required to learn to read, write and speak the Korean language. Dennis quickly mastered the language and an original three-month stay turned into almost 12 years. He established a solid career as an actor in Korea becoming a star on one of the most successful daily sitcoms in Korean television history called "A High Schooler’s Diary".

During his 12 years in Korea, Dennis performed in over 640 episodic television shows, miniseries, movies of the week and feature films, which took him to 12 different countries. The last and largest miniseries was the multi-award winning 38-hour program called "The Eyes of Dawn". Dennis was given a "Special Acting Award" for his role in, "A Tear for My Enemy" (English title), the first all-English language Movie of the Week that had been produced in Korea.

Dennis was the first foreign actor to be placed on the Korean TV Guide’s list of the 50 most popular entertainers. Dennis was also the first non-Korean actor allowed to join the Korea Television Actor’s Association. It was during one of the association functions that he met his wife, Korean actress Eun Kyung Seo.

Eventually, Dennis stepped behind the camera as an assistant director for the Cannon Group film, "A Field Of Honor." He then wrote, starred in, and produced the award winning feature film "Soldiers of Innocence." The film was nominated for two Grand Bell Awards (Korea’s equivalent of the Academy Award) and won the award for Best New Director.

Dennis authored a non-fiction book, "Rape? Not Me!!" That book, Dennis’ first, was published in 1974. He has subsequently written several screenplays for motion pictures and television. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly, Madly, Dearly , One From The Heart!!, February 14, 2003
This review is from: Dennis H. Christen's Madam: The Grass Is High (Paperback)
Madam, The Grass Is High is a delightful, engrossing celebration of affection that has no boundaries, only horizons ~ those take-your-breath mergings of heaven and earth that coax us to take a fresh look at that magnificent condition called love. There are no limits. There is no clock. Only people with hearts, big ones (in this scenario, seniors Ralph and Clara), eager to explore, expand and exude, irregardless that they are (initially) unaware of the "event" that's unfolding. Author Dennis Christen uses a well-chosen cast of contrasting characters to carry the plot line ~ so, it's no surprise that the story's well told. That said, Madam, The Grass Is High will perform an enchanting dance on the screen. But wait ~ there's more! Notably, the true créme de le créme is its message, which succeeds at reminding us that love comes to us all, or can, if we let it. And the manner of the reminding is magical. Don't miss it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Story!, November 27, 2002
First off, I'm happy that places like this allow customers a space to share how they fell about a product. I actually bought the book somewhere else but was hoping it would be availble here for less. I am planning on giving a few out for Christmas presents this year. I was surprised that a story about older people falling in love and how it impacts their families would be interesting. Madam, the Grass is High not only was a great read, it made me laugh and cry. It made me happy to have shared something with the characters. They were that real and it was like they were my friends. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Is Going To Turn Me Into a Novel Reader, July 31, 2003
By
Martin Choy (Honolulu, Hawaii USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dennis H. Christen's Madam: The Grass Is High (Paperback)
I'm not a recreational reader. Usually I only read technical books, and don't have time. Somebody gave me the book, so I had nothing to loose. I was struck by how easy it was to read and not slow down to piece together what's going on. What really glues the diversity of characters together is the smiting of love. When it became apparent who was smitten, I thought, "No way", but being single, I further thought, "Alright, there's hope for me". It intrigues me to see how love can change everything, and how it can embolden people to do out of character things. Now, when you add the backdrop of Hawaii's romantic paradise scenes, imagine the memories it will invoke years after you've seen the movie. Remember "Blue Hawaii"? There's something for everybody from pre-teen age and up, since the author contrasts different generation's approach to love. It makes me want to explore about this topic of love, and how we express, it can help to change the world for good. Speaking of Hawaii, there are unexpected and less known scenes that will add a pleasant surprise to people's image of Hawaii. It's more diverse than the average person thinks. You'll see what I mean when you read the book or see the movie.
