Denon AH-C260 In-Ear Headphones

  • Acoustic Optimizer technology delivers balanced, natural sound
  • Hybrid material driver housing for the highest fidelity sound reproduction
  • 9mm diaphragms with Neodymium magnet drive units
  • Comfortable in-ear design helps block out external ambient noise
Proprietary Sound Technologies Provide Superb Playback

With their smooth highs and dynamic lows, the Denon AH-C260 in-ear headphones play back your music with startling detail and fullness. The speakers are engineered using Denon's Acoustic Optimizer system which equalizes air pressure on both sides of the 9-millimeter speaker diaphragm to deliver a balanced, natral sound. Denon has also implemented a Radial Cascade Damper system, which keeps cable vibrations to a minimum allowing you to hear every musical detail. Finally, high-grade neodymium magnets are used in the speakers to improve dynamics and efficiency, extending the battery life of your portable music player or computer.

Sound Isolation for Immersive Listening

If you are a commuter or a jogger, you know that ambient noise can often interfere with music listening. Thankfully, the AH-C260 headphones are an in-ear design, which function like ear-plugs to help eliminate unwanted noise. They also use Denon's proprietary Hybrid Material Housing, that dramatically reduces resonance to improve sound detail and balance. This means that you'll always be able to hear your music with superb clarity--even amidst noisy conditions.

Comfortable Design

The AH-C260 headphones have also been designed to provide maximum comfort, even during extended listening sessions. Since every ear is different, four sets of ear pads (ranging from small to large) have been included to provide you with an optimal fit. The 1.3-meter cable features an adjustable branch-point slider, giving users maximum flexibility.

The Denon AH-C260 headphones are backed by a 1-year warranty.

I always carry a two pairs of headphones with me, one pair for serious listening, and another pair for casual, on-the-go listening. The serious listening role is currently filled by a pair of Monster Turbines. The other role was filled by a pair of Sennheiser CX500's, but sadly they broke. As such, I was on the hunt for a pair of budget headphones, preferably in the $20 range (the $40 Senns were a little too much for this purpose). Fortunately, I came upon these shortly after. I knew Denon was a good brand, but I didn't know they made budget headphones. Anyway, I immediately bought them to replace the Sennheisers. So far, I've had the Denon's for about two weeks.

Sound quality-wise, these are top-notch. Almost as crisp and clear as the Senns (but $20 cheaper!). The bass has more "thump" than the Senns, and is almost as thumpy, although not as deep as the Monsters. The mids are a bit laid-back, so some voices and guitar notes don't sound as full as they should, but they are still better than others in this price range such as the Skullcandy Ink'd. Terms such as soundstage, which are usually reserved for higher-end headphones, don't really apply here; they're pretty flat and don't have much depth but that's ok. The overall sound is clean and crisp. A little bit cold, but definitely good enough for $20 headphones.

Noise isolation is perfect, for me at least. They block out some noise, but because they don't go that deep in the ears, they still let some noise leak through. Because they don't go very deep, they're also very comfortable to wear.

Being budget headphones, they had to falter somewhere, and build quality is where that happens. The wires are thin, stiff, and tangly.

I really didn't realize the difference in the audio quality was going to be this huge. Let me tell you that the sound differential is so noticeable. I am listening to Ludovico Einaudi's beautiful piano piece: snow prelude no.2 and I didnt realize that there were some very soft drum percussions in the background until I used these headphones. I thought I was listening to a different album! The rubber ring fitted snuggly in my ears and it meant it did reduce the external background noise so I didn't to have the volume as loud. There are other sized rubber rings to fit your earhole. The Audi was definitely a lot sharper and clearer. I also played joss stone and the voice was crisper. For this price, this is well worth the switch from the standard apple products. Dennon is a recognized brand - great buy.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
When reviewing a product like this, I think it's important to know the reviewers age - I'm in my 50s - I'm not listening to Kenye West and Jay-Z through these. I'm most likely listening to classical music, Sinatra, or folk-rock in the Dylan/Taylor range. And some pop.

Nor am I blasting them. Years playing keyboard in a band has already taken a minor toll. I keep the volume reasonable.

That said, these are good little earbuds. The midrange is clear and balanced, the bass is definitely there, and they fit as well as a set of earbuds will fit for 20-30 bucks. Their sound blocking is not as good as the pair of Shures that I owned, but then again, they are about 25% of the price.

Overall, these entry level Denons provide good sound quality for listening to your iPod as you travel, run, or just at home. You'd have to spend a lot more to get a signifiant upgrade in sound quality. As I said, proper fit at this price range is a hit and miss affair, but these seem pretty average.

Overall - good deal; I'm pleased!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I am in 37-year-old audio enthusiast (but not audiophile) and when not using my home theater, I listen to classical music, TV shows, and movies with my iPhone. My primary headphones is Sennheiser HD448, a comfortable and affordable full-sized headphones. For portable listening, I use Etymotic HF3, one of Etymotic's better priced high-end in-ear headphones with vibrant sound and excellent isolation.

But headphones don't typically last very long, so I prefer inexpensive headphones for travel and at the office (where things get "lost" overnight once in awhile). And that's where Denon's AH-C260 come in.

First the packaging and design. Included "carrying case" is a joke, which does nothing in the way of protection nor storage. In fact, Denon warns in the user's manual to not wind tightly to prevent damaging the cord. I suggest throwing it away. Rubber and plastic used for 4.5-feet cord and cord management are underwhelming at best. That said, L-shaped connector fits perfectly into iPhone 4 (with Apple iPhone 4 Bumper Case on) with minimal cord vibration noise transmitted into ear canals.

That said, included 4 eartips (XS, S, M, and L sizes) are comfortable and fairly durable. One should try all 4 sizes to find maximum comfort, isolation, and sound (especially bass). Earphones themselves are also fairly attractive, in glossy piano black finish with gray chrome accents.
