99% Disappointed!, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Denon AH-NC600 Advanced Noise Canceling In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
Made of cheap and thin plastic. On/Off button is so loose that it rattles. Battery compartment door really difficult to open. It's so flimsy and ill-fitting that I almost broke it trying to open it for the first time. Tried noise cancelling effect on a turbo-prop plane, on a normal jet plane, and on the train. There is some minimal noise reduction but it comes at a price: The noise gets replaced by a powerful hissing that sounds as though you suddenly switch from your MP3 player to a radio with bad reception. I don't expect the stunning noise cancelling effect that my Bose QC3 has -- but still: Absoultely disappointing. Not worth the money at one thenth of the price. Would have given 0 starts if possible.

Comfortable, good sound and noise reduction, December 12, 2010
This review is from: Denon AH-NC600 Advanced Noise Canceling In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
I travel a lot on business and recently lost my JVC noise cancelling headphones so needed a replacement. I use headphones to listen to films off a PSP and music off a Sony reader and a Blackberry, but often on a flight I don't plug any music in and just use them to mute the sound of the cabin.
I tried the Bose over ear 'phones but decided the size and price were both a bit much for something I'll be carrying every day. I bought the Denons at duty free before a 7 hour flight and was pleased to find that a battery was included in the box. The battery compartment is a bit fiddly but the cover is captive which is clever - I've previously had some anxious moments looking for a small black plastic cover on the floor of a plane. The build quality is good and I liked the simple black finish - some of the phones I considered had attempted bling and consequently looked cheap and tacky.
Most importantly, the sound quality is very good with deep bass, clear mids and highs. It's not in your face, just pleasingly neutral with no colouration. I've since tried to hear the hiss mentioned in another review when noise cancelling is turned on, and totally failed to detect it. Either they had a dodgy sample or my ears are shot. The noise reduction also works well - turning it on produced the expected reduction in cabin noise.
I tried the different buds supplied, and found the medium size sealed well and were still comfortable at the end of the flight.
Very impressive, and they come in a very nice travel case which offers more protection than a pouch and has room for the extension lead, the supplied aircraft adapter and some spare batteries.
[further thoughts after about a month - I have now experienced the hiss mentioned in other reviews. It seems to be very dependent on the audio source used. Plugged into my blackberry or new PC I get different levels and types of background noise in each case. This seems to be some sort of interaction with the inherent background noise of the audio source. Plugged into a decent hi-fi or my Sony PSP, or unplugged and used to mute aircraft cabin noise, then absolute silence prevails. Not noticeable except when listening in a quiet environment, and in that situation you can use the headphones in passive mode and the problem goes away.]

Overpriced cheap Plastic, September 4, 2010
This review is from: Denon AH-NC600 Advanced Noise Canceling In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
The ear buds fit nicely and the noise canceling works, but the build quality is disappointing. The box connected to the headphones makes a hissing noise when turned on and feels very cheap. The sound is clear and has a precise bass but everything else is awful. I don't recommend these ear buds because you can find better for half the price.
